Phone snatching was on a roll here a little while ago. Still happening but not as extreme as before. I usually tell any of my visitors with an iPhone to keep it on the down low when their not with me (bus, train etc...) as the urge to snatch/run with the Superior device makes sense. Personally I flash my shit everywhere cause I would enjoy some punk making an effort but they always go for nerds or women cause their pussy ass crooks. Android/Windows devices are pretty safe.

Think ya would need like 100 cell phone snatchers in a week to get shot in face multiple times to deter it well enough. Maybe strategically place the iPhone in the pool of blood from their cranium for the evening news.

Sad ya even have to think about what your doing with something as common as using a phone. But anyone that lives in a major city and has to roll on a public bus/train or walk through certain areas kinda gotta use street smarts/city sense.

I've never left Chicago and I've never been robbed/mugged etc... so it's kinda like my antivirus system is on full guard and all strangers are scamming cocksuckers until they prove their not. Where a tourist might have their guard down thinking life is all butterflies and rainbows until their at the police station reporting a theft. Gotta adapt your defense to your surroundings as major cities are more fun, more to do etc... but attract a good handful of scamming assholes as well as there is more prey for them to choose from so it's easier to pick a weaker victim.

Well said, and I quite agree.

In London, Ontario we had a young guy who lost his cell in a taxi but he'd installed a tracking app. He was able to trace the phone to a parked car with three people in it at a plaza. When he approached the vehicle, they shot and killed the kid...then took off.

Moral to the story - even with a tracking app installed...unless you're Chuck Norris it's not always a good idea to go looking for it yourself. As reluctant as I am these days to get cops involved in anything...it's your safest bet.

Yeah that's fucked up. Can see a snatch/run mentality for a broke loser. But killing someone over a phone takes it into mental zone. Kid should have called for backup before the approach and if they didn't show up in time just jot the license plate number down. But then again with the adrenaline rush kid probably thought I might get my ass kicked but unlikely he thought he'd die over the shit. Sadly underestimated the mental state of the scum bucket.

Digressing for a moment from the thread...I was curious as to the actual reasons why black people don't tend to swim.

Not that I've given it much thought previous. I'd have said maybe they're less bouyant...or Afro Sheen leaves behind a slick...not many pools adjacent to cotton fields...they're already dark, so no need to tan at the beach. Swimming isn't needed when running from cops.

Don't assume to know the basis for my outlook. A stolen cellphone is symptomatic of a larger, and growing systemic problem.

Physically, she is unharmed. Mentally and emotionally - to put it bluntly, she's now scared shitless to ride public transit to and from work late at night. She's having to look into other more costly transportation options.

Just had a long conversation with the daughter and heard more details.

Cops have very clear video footage of this person's face - both on the bus and at the bus terminal where he got off. They were able to track the SGS6 with the IMEI coding to the terminal - and blacklisted/wiped the cell remotely.

Even with the SIMM removed - the cell is still a brick. It can't be turned on or re-activated, unlocked or another SIMM added. And the moment it's turned on, police are able to track it again.

So...odds are the phone will be ditched and cops say she only has a 5% chance of seeing it again - but she's gone to her doctor about a stress/anxiety attack she's had and cops can file 7 additional charges on him for that if he's caught.

It's been an interestin' experience...

Growing up in Welland there was literally ONE black family, and they had lived there longer than probably 80-90% of the population because most of that city are European immigrants from the last century and a large French Canadian community. The one black family I knew of were descendants of runaway slaves via the Underground Railway. I'm surprised there weren't more being a border town but most American slaves ended up in Southwestern Ontario.

Oh, before I moved I think a few Caribbean/Jamaican people showed up.
