What Trump REALLY said vs. What the Media is TELLING us he said.
They are two totally different things. Look, I'm no Trump supporter, but I'm not a big fan of mainstream media, either.
What Trump actually said was the U.S. should have a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the U.S. until our representatives can figure out what's going on (with ISIS, terrorists, etc). Nothing wrong with that, quite innocuous if you ask me. All ISIS are Muslim but not all Muslims are ISIS. We need better checks and vetting processes before we invite terror into our front yard. We can probably all agree to that, right? But...what the media is trying to push is that Trump called for an all out ban on anything and everything Muslim, even if they're already in the U.S. They're comparing it to the Jewish holocaust. Come the fuck on...really!?!? Just look around and look at some of the news headlines (hell, even look at thread titles here on GFY). Suckers are falling for it every second, and it's sad. We have brains. We're supposed to be analytical creatures. Why does 99% of our population go with what they're told? |

Today's CBS/NY Times polls have Trump up to 35%. So it didn't hurt him, the more he pisses off the left, the more he is embraced by the right. The left needs a new plan from the typical calling everyone a racist plan, it's not working on trump.

Sounds like you're the one hearing what you want to hear. There's no nuance to Trump's articulation (which is being generous to associate his speech with any form of articulation). What you hear is what you get, straight from the lizard side of his brain. It's all fear and aggression, and fearful types will latch onto it.

Of course it didn't hurt him -- 1/3 of US Americans believe Muslims are a security threat.
Trump is ignoring the laws of the US, I assume he has legal advisers and knows what he is saying. Drama Llama got his free publicity. Tea Party Turns on "Megalomaniac Strongman" Donald Trump - The Daily Beast Trump made his bed, now he can lie in it ... |

US Code 1182, inadmissible aliens. This law was written in 1952. It was passed by a Democrat-controlled Congress, House and Senate, and signed by a Democrat president. "Suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by president. Whenever the president finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, the president may, by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate." And by the way...in case you've been missing the news for the last couple of years: ISIS is the ISLAMIC STATE. They already have land and a capital and a functioning govt. Their goal is to continue expanding so everyone is MUSLIM. I'm not agreeing with Trump, but we need to keep in mind the facts instead of the anti-Trump rhetoric that the media is pushing desperately. |

Trump has said a lot of things. He says vague things, and then denies what he says.
Here is an interview he recently did with Yahoo: HILLYARD: Should there be a database system that tracks Muslims here in this country?? TRUMP: There should be a lot of systems, beyond databases. I mean we should have a lot of systems. And today you can do it. But right now we have to have a border. We have to have strength. We have to have a wall. And we cannot let what?s happening to this country happen anymore. HILLYARD: But that?s something your White House would like to implement? TRUMP: I would certainly implement that. Absolutely. So Trump just said he wants to create a database of Muslims. Then he turns around and says he wants to close down Mosques: GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump says the United States has ?absolutely no choice? but to close down mosques where ?some bad things are happening.? ?Nobody wants to say this and nobody wants to shut down religious institutions or anything, but you know, you understand it,? Trump said on Fox News?s ?Hannity? on Tuesday. ?A lot of people understand it. We?re going to have no choice.? Trump said on Monday he would ?strongly consider? closing mosques if elected in response to the terrorist attacks in France last Friday that killed at least 129 people and injured hundreds more. Pressed to explain his tougher stance on the issue, the GOP primary front-runner told Fox News?s Sean Hannity that the security situation was changing ?a lot faster than anybody understands.? After we create the database and then close down the Mosques, what then? Nazi Germany made Jews wear the Star Of David on their sleeve; Perhaps Trump will ask Muslims and people from Middle Eastern countries to wear something on their sleeve to identify them? At what point in time do we start refusing to hire and employ Muslims or people from the Middle East? Should we put them all in internment camps like we did to the Japanese during WWII? Keeping in mind that the man who did this was an American citizen born in the United Sates... .. My wife is Italian and Lebanese. She was born in the United States. Will she have to carry a special ID? Will our child have to carry a special ID?

I'm still looking for my candidate. It won't be any of the Republicans or Hillary. My problem is watching the media. Supposed to be the "Free Press". An important part of a Democracy. But they seem to be under the direct control of corporations who have vested interests and do not want ANY candidate (like Trump) that they don't "own" with campaign contributions. Watching this play out is simply disgusting to me. |

It would be a minor expansion -- BULLSHIT
Let's expand it? Catholics; or, Eastern Orthodox Christians; or, Jews; or, Buddhists; or, yada yada yada Or, whoever we think might be a danger in safety or enonomics this week ... Your torturous reading of the immigration law misinterprets the word "classes". Classes are limited to those allowable by the US Constitution; Race or Religion are not constitutionally allowable classes. If you want to stop ALL immigration or ALL immigration from countries (as a class) that is allowable. The truth is that persons from most countries in the world may be the "Muslim threat'' -- the bogeyman ... Demagoguery always requires a bogeyman -- us and them. Stop them before they destroy us ... What I get is that the Trumpzi message is pandering to too many Americans. |

The Supreme Court has held consistently, for more than a century, that constitutional protections that normally benefit Americans and people on American territory do not apply when Congress decides who to admit and who to exclude as immigrants or other entrants. This is called the plenary power doctrine. The Court has repeatedly turned away challenges to immigration statutes and executive actions on grounds that they discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, and political belief, and that they deprive foreign nationals of due process protections. While the Court has not ruled on religious discrimination, it has also never given the slightest indication that religion would be exempt from the general rule. There is even precedent for Trump?s plan. In 1891, Congress passed a statute that made inadmissable people who practice polygamy (directed, at the time, at Mormons), and in 1907 extended this ban to people who ?who admit their belief in the practice of polygamy.? While Congress later repealed the latter provision (the former seems to be still on the books), no court?as far I know?ruled it unconstitutional.

The big killer for Trump's chances is there'll be no pivoting to make his numbers go higher or grab possible voters. He's stuck with the xenophobic bigot jerkoffs he's been courting from the beginning. There's only so many of them out there and he already has them.

Following YOUR logic, we should temporarily stop all car sales to investigate why so many people die from accidents. We should ban prescription drugs to investigate why there are so many overdoses and cases of addiction. We should ban alcohol to investigate why so many people drive while drinking. We should ban stoves, lighters, gasoline, matches, or anything else that could possibly cause a fire until we investigate why all these wildfires occur, and why so many people die in house fires or arson? Oh, and ban deep fryers until we can investigate why so many people blow themselves up trying to deep fry them. See how ridiculous that sounds? |

Hypothetically: Let's say a law was passed barring entry to any Muslim to the USA.
How are we going to handle this with our NATO allies? Are we going to instruct our embassy staff in London (for example) to determine if a visa applicant, who is a UK citizen, is a Muslim and deny him a visa on that basis? How is that embassy employee, representing the USA in the UK, going to decide this guy is a suspected Muslim if it's not obvious -- make him eat a piece of bacon? Some other guy who is a member of the Anglican Church that is waiting in the same line gets his visa approved? |

And it would only be a TEMPORARY thing to allow the govt. to get serious about this problem. Many people feel that the Obama Administration hasn't taken this seriously enough ("Isis is the JV team", won't even say "Islamic Terrorists", too much political correctness, etc.) I think the argument is that if Trump took office he is much tougher than Obama and would put a moratorium in place temporarily and get the security system up to speed and then open it up again. |

Sorry if this was already discussed in this thread (I didn't read the whole thread)...
THe one thing that is pissing me off is - seeing all of these 'headlines' that "TRUMP THREATENS TO RUN AS AN INDEPENDENT" {or similar things}... He did NOT do that, nothing 'threatening' not even close... ~~~~~~ He said an independent run was "highly unlikely" in an interview with CNN's Don Lemon on Wednesday, but declined to completely rule it out, calling the pledge a "two-way street." "If they don't treat me with a certain amount of decorum and respect. If they don't treat me as the front-runner ... If the playing field is not level, then certainly all options are open," Trump said. ^^ that's not a 'threat'...

Everyone can calm down.
I was just watching Jake Tapper's show. And he's discussing Trump with the usual illustrious panel of CNN political analysts. And they have all just agreed that if Trump starts winning the primaries, then the Republican Party will simply have to block him and have the states delegates given to a candidate that the leadership chooses. Is there any more proof to voters that the establishment in Washington D.C. doesn't give a damn about the people and doesn't rule according to the will of the people? |

Pathetic, if they do something like that & disavow what the people/voters, etc want.
