And, of course, it's highly unlikely that everything Sanders is proposing would be passed in its current form should he be elected president, especially with a Republican House. Taxing businesses more is a tricky one as it leads to them leaving the US. What needs to be done is tax them in a way they can't use the Third World as a place to manufacture and the US, or any Western country as a place to base themselves, live and sell, then dodge paying taxes.

Passing on their savings to you and your Grandchildren as debt.

Good point, state tax would be on top of that. The payroll tax listed is FICA which should be the same as self employed tax.

My cousin just graduated from college. His mother was a single mom who had four kids, and he was totally on his own when it came to paying for it. He worked full time at Nordstrom's selling shoes, and then later at Bank Of America as a bank teller. After hours, he worked at the student store and also was a dorm supervisor so he had free room and board. Not only did he support himself the entire four years, he also paid off his entire college education before he graduated.

My nephew attends and lives at George Washington University - I am SURE my sister can not afford it at all. Where the money comes from, I haven't a clue, but I am sure my nephew handled working all the logistics out with grants, scholarships etc.

I will say those are Bernie's plans. not promises. not guarantees and certainly far from certain. I like the ideals behind many of those plans more. I like how Bernie Sanders has eschewed Super Pac money and not received $1 from Wall Street fat cats and big corps. The system is broken starting with campaign finance and he has promised to go after that as POTUS and i like that a lot. Let's start where the problem starts. I also like his stance on ISIS (have the ME handle it), a couple other of his views.

You expect me to believe people who have an AGI over $250,000 pay 28% of that income toward payroll taxes? Those charts are another Internet joke. That said, there will be substantial tax increases no matter who is elected.

Either; (1) both assets and income will be taxed by recession or inflation or, (2.) just income by legislation -- pick your poison -- either way there will be winners and losers.

Trump, Hillary and Sanders are all promising some form of taxpayer supported universal healthcare -- so that is really a done deal platform proposal.

Free college is not exactly free -- Sanders' proposal is for tuition only at state supported schools. If you want to go to Yale or Harvard it is full price. Students should have to qualify for free college with acceptable SAT or other exam scores regardless of race or income.

Excessive capital gains taxes are not a good idea. That capital has already been taxed once and should not be taxed again. An equities (all assets) transfer tax of less than 5% would be a much better way to raise money. It would be a flat tax on all transfers from dollar 1.

Somehow, we have to pay for both infrastructure improvements as well as retire a lot of our debt to become solvent again.

$0.12 is what $1 buys today compared to $1 of value in 1960. Inflation has not worked.

Why should he have to work like that to get a good job, and generate money for the country? Would it not be better for the country to pay for it, assuming he passes exams and the degrees are "sciences", and when he gets a job to repay some in a form of higher taxes?

Here's the truth. for 5 minutes look at everything around you and see where it was made and who made it.

Then research how much tax the company made, how many American jobs they created to make the product and how much they spent outside the US.

This is billions of $$$$ flowing out of the US, same here in Europe. If it continues there will be more homeless on the streets of US cities and towns.

The only way to stop this is to block imports from countries who only want to sell, or tax the companies that take money out of the US economy.

Or go bankrupt. On a personal level, because your customer base isn't in the Third World, it's in the first. And a billionaire needs only one dating app. He most certainly isn't creating jobs for 1,000 Americans who need one as well. By exporting jobs, he became a billionaire.

This applies to people employing illegal Mexicans to clean their hotels.

Bravo! Your daughter did something that a vast majority of Americans, and citizens of the world are starting to loathe the thought of; MADE A SACRIFICE. She sacrificed to get what she wanted, and I congratulate her for it.

I had a full ride athletic scholarship to the University of Miami for baseball. I lost it before playing a single game because some dindu decided to get stab happy one night at Coconut Grove. That's another story for another thread. But I had to make a decision to drop out or pay my own way. Instead of trying to rely on my parents or the government, I went out and got a full time job to help offset the costs. I was taking 12 - 15 credit hours a semester, and working 40 hours a week. I'm not bragging, I'm proud of the sacrifice I made in order to get what I wanted. I didn't ask for handouts, I didn't expect anyone to feel sorry for me for losing my scholarship. I just put my nose to the grinder and worked my ass off.

That's the problem with society today. A majority of people are looking for loopholes or handouts, not only wanting BUT expecting assistance, and when they don't get it, they didn't fail themselves, the government failed them. That's HORSESHIT! No one in this world owes you shit! When you rely on yourself, you can do amazing things. When you rely on others, you can come up with amazing excuses. It's easy to blame others for your failures, but hard to step up and do what's honorable.

Not only that, but you're penalized for working harder and making more money. What kind of incentive plan is that!?!? I want to work 18 hours a day, busting my ass to make millions of dollars so I can give 77% of it to the government. I mean, that unemployed pot smoker that sits at home playing video games all day needs someone to take care of him, right? And I also have to spend hours and hours researching marketing trends and securities so I can invest in the right market. So I can pay capital gains taxes of 65%.

This system is rewarding people for being lazy and unmotivated. Completely opposite of what made America great in the first place.
