The cost of bringing jobs back to the West.
Read what Trump says. https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positio...a-trade-reform
I support Trump on this and think the EU should join with him and tackle more than China. The entire Third World needs to understand if they want to sell goods to us, they have to buy as much as they sell and stick to the rules. The problem will be getting voters to stick with the plans and forcing the politicians and 1% to implement the policies. OK a pair of Jeans will cost from $150 up, a mobile phone $800 and up, cars, washing machines and even houses will all cost more to build. The good side is jobs will come back, GDP, taxes, incomes will rise (unless you're a politician or 1%). Will voters vote for a policy that means they're forced to buy less? Apart from the poor, low paid and unemployed. |

It's a myth that clothes would cost that much if production was moved to the west. Look at American Apparel. They do all their manufacturing in the US. Just checked prices on their site and good quality button down shirts are $40-60. Pretty much the exact same price as a Zara shirt that's manufactured in Bangladesh. The reason why the CEO of Nike wants you to think that shoes would cost $300 a pair is that's what the price would have to be for him to keep is obscene salary. Someone already posted it in another thread, but western consumers are more conscious than ever about buying locally made products. The internet is only helping this trend. Combine that with the fact that China and other 3rd world countries can only sustain if they suppress the quality of life of their own people and I see this trend continuing. |

american apparel revenue 600mil$ nike revenue 30.000mil$ (30billion) sounds like they do not have $$ for being a global player...273 shops world wide total?...nike has that just in our 3rd world shit hole... if you are going to be a global player, you can not do it with production in the USA... |

I'd give crazy tax breaks to any company manufacturing/employing here. And I'd tax the imports to levels to remove any offshore advantage. Wanna sell in the US then it has to be made here or at least assembled here. Merica

However, they can buy Arms, Planes, Advanced engineering, Rolls Royces. Yes, Nike trainers, that cost $10 bucks to make in India and sell for $300 will have to spend less on advertising, promotion, marketing a product. And people will have to do without the latest styles. And people will get jobs. |

CEOs salary are a small part of the difference in costs. Yes agree with the Internet, go to Ebay and Amazon to see the goods coming direct from China. This has to be blocked. |

The post industrial west can only do this with AI and robotic workers and deliver a product that can be sold, and even exported, at a price that is comparable to cheap developing and third world labor.
This will put all human low skilled workers world-wide out of work. Ironically, this is a bonanza for the globalist. This would be a big pay day for technicians, robotics developers and specialized manufacturers. |

![]() That is the problem when you try to be the lowest price seller -- someone will always undersell you. I would rather see that Chinaman make a little more -- in time he may afford to buy his own production. In fact, there are a new class of billionaire Chinese and a consumer economy developing in China now. If they would legalize sex cams ... I am already selling a little to some wealthy Chinese ![]() |

the problem with the west is that they want it both ways...
they want to be competitive but pay high salaries to domestic workers... they want to raise taxes on imports but not have other countries raise tax on them... they want to raise the prices of products but not suffer a loss in sales... they want to stay globally competitive but not use sweat shops... you can not have it both ways...pick one... "trump said" is not a realistic solution... |

What's cheaper?
To pay 2 or 3 times what something is worth so a Luddite can be gainfully employed. Or, to create a robotic work force to replace the Luddite workers that are incapable of adapting world wide -- they can go back to subsistence farming -- I will donate a bag of seeds and a knife. It will come down to this soon. Or, a new Dark Ages. Planet of the Apes is a harbinger of a not so distant future? |

giving tax breaks would be good and in the long run bring more money in, taxing imports also good.

they must not have enough money for marketing...you can not have it both ways...even though trump says you can
OR they must be too expensive for export, and nike made in china gives stores a better mark up with their sweat shop labour... you can not have it both ways... |

Why would I want to pay more for the same thing? I think that the outsourced workers are going to be obsoleted too.
I won't pay a chump to do a job that can be done by a machine more cost effectively. I would pay more taxes for universal healthcare and improving education in the USA. Each according to his needs to some degree but no handout jobs at my expense. |

It doesn't work that way.... They can't buy a pair of $60 jeans from the US because that's six months wages for them.

Trump is a business man. It's pretty hard to compete business wise without outsourcing these days. If Trump can pander to to the christian right with lies about he much loves the Jesus and the Bible, what makes you think he is not pandering to those who think he wants to bring back jobs to the US?
