Most expensive domain renewals $55000

apparently there are premium .xyz domains which needs to be renewed at $55000 and not like regular price $10-$20. wtf.

nice business model.

i can understand buying premium domains for higher price but renewing them at the same higher price ? c'mon

you can buy great .com domain for $55k in 2016.

no one who knows anything about domains would pay $55k/yr for renewal of some shitty extensions.

If a domain name is a premium name from the registry @ $12,000?

what if{
the terms were $6,000 to register that name the first year
then $600 a year to renew it
after 10 years of that name's renewal -- renewal for the normal renewal fee?
}
$6000(down payment)+($600*10 years annual renewal)=$12,000
Sort of a premium name 'installment sale plan'
The all cash price might be $8000 'buy now' with the normal renewal fees **

1.) if the name is really a POS you could dump it at a reduced loss.
2.) you could resell the domain but the premium renewal fees (the $600/yr) left would transfer (encumber the name) to the new buyer.
3.) you probably would buy it with the intent of immediate development -- it would be rather expensive to be sitting as a speculative investment or for resale.

yes, but 55k renewal is mad. it means site/biz needs to make 100k+/year in profit at least. from the very start.

.xyz

The only time I've ever seen a website with .xyz, is on FaceBook and it's an ad saying click here for a $500 Walmart gift card , a $250 Aldi coupon or be one of 500 winners of a free trip to Vegas.

.shop gTLD sells for record $41.5 million | Domain Incite - Domain Name Industry News, Analysis & Opinion

Quote:
.shop gTLD sells for record $41.5 million
Kevin Murphy, January 28, 2016, 06:45:20 (UTC), Domain Registries

The nine-way fight for the .shop gTLD has raised $41.5 million at auction.

It?s the most-expensive reported new gTLD sale to date.

The victor was GMO Registry of Japan, which runs a few Asian geographic gTLDs and acts as service provider for over a dozen dot-brands.

GMO wanted .shop so badly it actually applied twice for the gTLD in the 2012 application round.

Only two bidders, GMO and an unidentified rival, were prepared to pay over $15 million, according to ICANN.
People with money are sure STUPID!

I thought it was 100.000 usd for .amsterdam and i see pices of 185.000 for your own TLD.
And there can be extra renewal cost.
Anyway, renewal for 55.000 is ridicilous, better start your own than and sell a few top domains on that extension.
... or to the people that want to protect their brands.
