German media were too uncritical in their coverage of the 2015 refugee crisis, giving Angela Merkel?s open-door policy a free pass and failing to represent the legitimate concerns of ordinary people alarmed by the influx, a new study has found.

The report, commissioned by the Otto Brenner Stiftung in Frankfurt, said the coverage was so one-sided that it ended up deepening the ideological rift in Germany between liberals on the one hand and nationalists and conservatives on the other.

Good report, for everyone with open eyes it didn't come out as a surprise though. This is just a confirmation for us. But what about the left and liberals, how do they react? And regarding political power, middle east and Africa have always been a mess. Just a dumb liberal would state what you just stated. They run their own countries, they have power but most still fail apart from a few cause of corruption, chaos and undemocratic systems. Not that I praise the democracy we have in Europe today in any way. These countries need to develop by themselves, not escape to Europe for a better financial situation. Europe and USA have pumped money into Africa last centuries, for what?

And you want to give more power to those who can't handle power. We all seen what has happened with south Africa since black got power. I always favored aid and relief from our countries but it needs to go to the people in terms of development, jobs. They need to start somewhere, but most of the aid goes to the hands of corrupt politicians.

The problem is, all the stupids adopt the media narrative of their choice... most stupids (on either traditional 'side') vocalise their retardness, which leaves no room for the sensible people to have rational discourse. So yeah, bitching about the media needs to be done, as much as the media need to *properly* bitch about politicians. No single or collective with as much power as politicians or the media wield, should go unchecked.

Insane isn't it. I far from agree with everything you write (and far from disagree with everything either), but at least you can understand there are nuances, facets, opposing views, different ideas on how to accomplish things without 'death to all blacks' or 'homos should be shot at birth' or whatever shit some people here seem to think any opposing viewpoint/idea means.

I used to think that seeing all angles/sides to problems/conflicts/discussions was a 'bad' quality of mine, but as I grow older I'm seeing the 'bad' part is blindly sticking to a black & white view, refusing to acknowledge the other persons' grievances, and spitting out hatred and names rather than just fucking accept that just like we should 'all co-exist because we are all different', we all have differing experiences and thoughts, without being automatically extreme-right or extreme-left.

Some days it boggles my mind that so many people just can't put themselves in another person's shoes (including those of eg immigrants who want a better life... fuck, who wouldn't? If I was them I'd be trying like mad to make sure me and my family got somewhere better), other days I remember that we ARE all different, and probably practice more tolerance than the self-proclaimed 'tolerant' do by not doing a thommy and ranting about how anyone who thinks differently to him should die

wrong. Merkel said exactly that when it started. She invited them all to Europe, not only germany, because when one of the leading figures of the EU says this, it is policy for all of the EU. None of the EU countries could do their own border controls because our 'leaders' are all EU lapdogs, except for Hungary. Their leader is the only one with balls, which is why EU officials are now starting to demonize him as well. Since the open invitation, literally millions of immigrants have come to the EU and turkey. In 2015 and 2016 roughly 1,4 million to the EU (recorded ones that is!! So a lot more in reality) and til now over 3 million alone in turkey, of which a large number will eventually travel further into the EU as well.

You're comparing Canada to Europe. Canada doesn't border islamic war zones and other islamic countries full of people abusing the refugee crisis to go to your country for money. When you border countries that share your values, immigration can let a country help flourish. But you are comparing apples and oranges - this migrant crisis is already having the opposite effects, from general tension between a tolerant culture and an intolerant culture in every way, to multiple terror attacks killing people across Europe. How flourishing.
