If I had to choose a sngle resolution to design around it would be 1920x1080.

But if your design is responsive then it shouldn't matter, the site will re-format according to the device.

The only real issue should be the quality of your thumbs and preview videos on the Tour.

I use bootstrap too, my question is more when you build a site for 1920, you have lots of room in the header lets say, if you fill it out, it will be messed up in 1024 then you will have to decide what to cut in that res... especially for text

You are absolutely right, and me i have users that can add text themselves in different places in the header so they can easily mess it up in 1024. And cutting text is not good SEO wise so i have to hide and tweak and its a pain

Hi HD,

The screensize of your viewers should be more or less irrelevant now. Every site should be "responsive" so that it resizes to look good on every screen size or device.

You also have to keep older viewers in mind, even when it comes to colors. These days, alot of sites have light grey text on near-white backgrounds because it looks kinda cool, but some older people have trouble seeing it. I have one client who is 80, and complains about this alot. And I listen, especially since he spends alot of money.

Forget building to a specific size if you can. Build for all sizes.

If you put too many elements (and text) in responsive design, it still looks like crap when screen size is reduced (like, full mobile screen of various shit on header only)

So to answer the OP's question... purge it all from header and move it elsewhere, as simple as that. Case closed.

I don't have that issue because I use media queries and special classes that tell the elements to do certain things at certain sizes, such has hide themselves on smaller screens as to not cramp up the design.

Yes but be careful with hiding stuff as I got a penalty for hiding some text on mobile that is in the header on wider screen sizes. At least I am 99% sure I did, when I changed it back I got my traffic back. I guess it depends on how important Google thinks the text is.

My script phones home the browser res, I just checked over the past couple of months and nearly 10% of uniques are at 1024x768. So I wouldn't write them off just yet.
