Inherited a nice little notebook running Windows 10 but it keeps blue screening - Whats a good diagnostic software that wont install a load of fucking malware?..

None there all malware themselves

Remove everything from start up except defender, remove any bloatware apps, update and run defender, run windows update, do a sfc

WhoCrashed I used when my Dell XPS kept BSoDing.

(By the way, never buy a Dell XPS. Beautiful laptop with amazing specs. Have never had a computer with so many problems in my life.)

I will check that out first - It has a touch screen so it would be better if I can keep 10....

Check all drivers are installed/updated and test the memory. Also is it running hot?

Who Crashed really helped me figure out I had a RAM problem. But I was lucky in that case. By and large I've noticed that blue screens will appear to be caused by all kinds of different things and it's untrackable. Meaning, you either live with the BSODs or you nuke the machine and start over with new hardware and a fresh install of Windows.

I tried everything under the sun with mine. I finally raised enough hell and the Microsoft Store replaced it. That was about 18 months ago. I just had to replace the battery as 4 out of the 6 cells were enlarged, total fire hazard. Dell refused to do anything about it. "Out of warranty."

I ran Windows 7 for about five years. In that time, I never had a BSOD.

In the three years I've used Windows 10 there have been too many to count.

yup but check the ram for sure.... loose cards can imitate some issues..

In the past, I've had inexplicable BSODs that turned out to be something I wouldn't have considered. The PSU on my desktop was slowly failing, due to capacitors bulging. This, in turn, fucked up the motherboard over time due to irregular or inconsistent voltage. There was nothing to indicate any of this was even happening. Except for those occasional, inexplicable BSODs.

If you're able to peek at your notebook's motherboard, see if there's any capacitors leaking from the top. They'd look something like this.
