CA figures out over taxation/regulation is a business killer

One year of legal pot sales and California doesn’t have the bustling industry it expected. Here’s why.

"“The cannabis industry is being choked by California’s penchant for over-regulation,”

My bet is Trump proposes legalization on the Federal level. Might even propose the tax revenues be used for his wall/immigration.

He's already legalized hemp

Trump and Congress just legalized hemp
The law won’t legalize marijuana for recreational or medical uses, but allows non-intoxicating forms of cannabis.

Why do you say "here's the reason" when the article you link lists like 50 reasons, did you not read the article, not understand it, or have some other agenda?

Main reasons it seems from your article..

New setups being run by amateur's not complying with current regulations others have no issues with.. That's more than 50,000 growers..

Less than 20% of cities in California — 89 of 482 — allow retail shops to sell cannabis for recreational use.. Republicans I'd Guess.

And that they cant get banking because its illegal federally.. Republicans again.

---

So maybe change your post to " One year of legal pot sales and California doesn’t have the bustling industry it expected. Here’s why. REPUBLICANS "

Also... Its 100000 x easier to sell pot/grow commercially legally in CA than it is in Amsterdam, and that's after only one year! A friend of mine works for a company that tried to get a licence for Aus the setup cost here was over 20 million, that's to produce a product that they'd have to destroy.. because its not legal here yet... go figure. they declined and setup in CA

I guess we should propose 4 year degree to sell pot? Because clearly your average Joe can't wade through the regs.

I didn't read the article until you posted that.. Funny fucking shit onwebcam posted a article with out reading it and proves himself wrong, because he just assumes because sales are low its because "over regulation"..

Meanwhile its because the state didnt over-regulate but instead gave control of regulation to local communities. Turns out most areas didnt allow legal pot sales so the sales are not happening because people can't buy it.

Once again onwebcam shows us why Republican logic is bad for business... by giving local communities the ability to decide to sell pot or not, only 89 of 482 cites decided to allow it.

Guess this shows the Republican mantra of "states rights" is bad for business..

Moral of this topic... onwebcam is a fucking idiot..

Here's some logic..

California's over-regulated and over-taxed "dispensaries" are in competition with a very well established unregulated and untaxed Amazon/Uber style distribution system.

The summary of "your" article says it's failing because too many cities decided to not allow legal sales. Due to this the buyers are getting their pot the old fashioned way from illegal dealers.

The illegal dealers dont have to pay taxes or rent shop fronts ect..ect so it's hurting the guys who are legal because Cali is not doing anything to stop the illegal sales..

The entire article screams of lack of regulation... not too much...

That's the misconception there not selling "pot", its medical grade cannabis, and while I'm sure every stoner with a grow light thinks they can farm buds, its whole different science level to produce consistent medical grade cannabis.

And clearly the average Joe can wade though the regulations.." 2,160 growers registered with the state" IN THE FIRST YEAR, and " 547 licenses for marijuana retail stores"

Find some stats on bar licences and craft beer set ups and compare.. and I think you'll find pot is much easier.

I know a few "every stoners with a grow light" that have been growing that "medical grade" shit in all sorts of illegal ways for DECADES.

How they going to sell all that bud "every stoner with a grow light" registered to grow?

The old fashion way..

Fucking oath it will, because the youth of today is not the target market, pot smokers are more likely to be 40+, working and law abiding citizens.. apart for there pot habit.

legalise it, and fuck going to some dealer

Also the problem with buying from a "dealer" is you get immune to pot, where as if your buying from a shop you can change variety daily and still get that big rush.

Seriously compare it to craft beer, anyone can make it at home and save a heap of coin, but vast majority of people will just head to a local bar and pay 20x production price... no problems.

You're arguing with someone who agrees to legalization but not "over-taxation and over-regulation"

As in, what has now become the "liberal way"

As can be shown in this thread.. Mr Liberal Crockette is promoting more regulations.. And out the other side of his face claiming it's the Right who's in the way.. Meanwhile it was Trump's Admin who legalized hemp.. Not Obama's..

Not sure, perhaps you could ask your Democrat friends who like to portray themselves as Russians? Bladewire seems to know a lot about them? Maybe he knows a Ukrainian that could help answer that?

Your failing to see how liberated and easy it is in CA, compared to places like.. Amsterdam

Whataboutism is your normal play.. so what about the craft beer industry, and I think you'll see cannabis compares favourably.

I'm just jealous cos I know if they ever allow here in Aus, the regulations will be insane and tax will be off the planet. Packet of ciggys here is now over $40

Craft beer is a big thing here in Nashville as is most places... Not much really changed as far as those go other than higher alcohol limits and there's plenty of places to sell it... If weed is to compete the barriers and stigma have to be removed.

Javier Montes, owner of Wilmington pot store Delta-9 THC, says he is struggling to compete with a large illicit market unburdened by the taxes he pays as a licensed business.

“Because we are up against high taxes and the proliferation of illegal shops, it is difficult right now,” Montes said. “We expected lines out of our doors, but unfortunately the underground market was already conducting commercial cannabis activity and are continuing to do so.”
It's a combination of many factors, it's too expensive to produce legal pot in CA, too many folks can grow up to 6 plants per person in the backyard, all the illegal groups sell at a much lower $$$, and then there's the regulations and inspections to fuck with.

Colorado has a similar legal setup to CA, and they seem to be prospering in terms of shops and income off of taxes, of course it's much harder to grow weed in Colorado than it is in CA for the personal folks and the outlaw groups

LOL, California is basically dead right now, millions of people leave every year...While Texas is taking in an avg of 1000 per day. The sad thing is that when they move to Texas, they still vote the way they did that caused them to move in the first place. It's like they are too dumb to realize that it's the democrat policies that are sinking their state.

PS: Gas price in Cali is $3.65 compared to $2.20 in Texas. Their liberal policies are literally draining the citizens. But that's what you get when you make policies with your heart instead of your brain.

You don't "see" a lot of taxes.. But it's there.. That's why you're paying $3+ a gallon and I'm paying -$2

Try to not be so clueless; the taxes for gasoline are on every pump. We see that tax every time we put gas in our cars.

Dispensaries in other states give receipts that show the taxes; NONE of the dispensaries I have visited in California charge tax because NONE of them are charging tax and most likely are not paying the tax this new law was supposed to bring in.

Things are cheaper in TN, you know why? Nobody wants to live in that shithole.

Wyoming has some of the lowest taxes in the country yet they are the only state to lose population every year, you know why? Nobody want's to live in that shithole.

Companies could pay a hell of a lot less taxes in Mobile, Alabama compared to Silicon Valley. You know why they don't? Cause nobody wants to live in that shithole.

Yes they have. It's funny the minute they start thinking they can make a buck from it they are all for it and then start lying saying they've been for it all along. Their 'morals' depend on which way the wind blows.

He doesn't know what we see at the pump when we buy gas because he's a foreigner in Russia pretending to be American online.

He also said previously that when we shop we have to show ID when we use our credit cards. You only have to show ID with a credit card in Russia.

Is it safe to use credit cars in Russia?

"When using a credit card in Russia you must also show proof of identity so bring your passport with you"

If you're going to flat out lie and make shit up about this you'll lie about anything including your website stats. California has a net migration gain of over 300,000 people a year.

That's an additional tax for CA is my guess.. It's definitely not that way anywhere East of the Mississippi. The taxes are being added in by the growers, distributors and dispensaries no doubt.. It's the same thing as cig taxes, alcohol etc.. Then you add on sales taxes if your state has one.. Cigarettes are taxed here in TN before they even hit the shelves.. Cigs & alcohol have "tax stamps" And you pay additional sales tax on top of that.. They also have "by the drink" taxes here on alcohol which the establishment pays.. Again, the consumer doesn't see this.. Except in increased prices.

See below...You're paying 58.2 cents per gallon "hidden tax" and then getting sales taxed on top of that

"Along with the federal gas tax of 18.4 cents, Californians now pay 58.2 cents in excise taxes per gallon. Like all other states with sales taxes, California “taxes the tax” by applying the combined local and state sales tax, which ranges from 7.25 to 9.75 percent, on top of the gasoline tax.Jan 14, 2018"
https://fee.org/articles/californias...-to-the-roads/

You do the match on that $3 a gallon. You're paying over a $1 per gallon in taxes.

In TN we just have the "hidden tax" They aren't sales taxing on top of that..

The sales of drugs need to be strictly regulated.
