Don't forget someone has to design the robots, someone has to build them someone has to program them. Not forgetting someonee has to provide the raw materials. Then someone has to stock the robots, someone has to sell them. Jobs are not being taken away by robots they are just changing from burger flippers to engineers and programers etc etc ?

Every time I hear someone complaining about robots taking a human's job, I always think the same thing. If a robot takes your job, then get in the robot building business. We can't stop progress because someone might not get a paycheck.

most homo sapiens are not and will never be engineers and programmers...approx 1/3 of homo sapiens in the USA have a college degree...the other 2/3 do not...out of those 1/3 MOST of the degrees are NOT engineering and programming...

recap: you are cheering the demise of your market, you will get to pick up the tab for the lost jobs, the rich will make money selling robots and will avoid paying tax through loopholes and tax cuts for the rich...

you forgot to add "yet" - robots are already building robots and the next generation will also design them and invent new technologies.

evolution is not a dead end. and without problems there would be no need for solutions at all.

when the first trains were running, it was still assumed that a human cannot survive a travel speed of more than 25 mph.

if we use this technology wisely and for the good of all, it is the beginning of true equality and prosperity for everyone in this world.

nobody needs a paycheck when robots are working for free.

what they will destroy is the business WITH money because nobody needs money anymore.

for me that sounds like paradise.

Robots will build robots.
The cost will put it most of the reach of most people.
The investment needed is huge.

Of course the people who lose their jobs will still get a paycheck. It's called welfare and the tax payer will pay it. Add the number of jobs paying squat and the tax revenue falls.

Yep. and that is why Trump won elections,as he was the only one who addressed that issue. A lot of people are educated to do only one job and once that job is gone they become permanently unemployed and social cases.

visionary thinking has never been one of your talents.

for WHAT do you need money or a paycheck if everything is produced from robots without salary ?

sure i am not talking about the next 50 or even 100 years where a lot of problems will show up til this is realized. it will not effect you or me or anybody here in this forum. it is a longterm view that have only ONE final destination. everything else is unlogic.

You must explain who will own the robots that produce everything. Also how will they be designed, built, maintained, fuel, food delivered, etc. If no one pays for anything?

Try thinking in the real world.

Billionaires and corporations will build, own and run the robots for a profit. The World tried other methods of running Utopian Societies and they end up worse than capitalism. Because of the people who run the Utopian Society.

Look at the EU as a great example, they can't even launch a common currency without massive fuck ups, like giving it to Greece. The people running it are shit and ripe for a Far Right takeover.

yeah! paul would have done it all better!...if he managed to stay in school at 13

the teachings of paul: I did not manage to learn how to press a fucking button so that my pics do not look like absolute shit, but I would run the EU no problem

Shit, if they take jobs, the argument that we need more immigrants because of the hoax of the aging of Europe is gone.
Very good for the carbon footprint of Europe. The less people, the better.

who "owns" the streets?
who "owns" the air we are breathing?
who "owns" health ?
who "owns" the universe?

why can´t you not think in a world where all people owns all ?

tell my WHY a robot have to have an individual owner ?

in my future it does not make sense to be a billionaire because robots will produce everything for everyone for free.

I retired in my mid 30s though no merit of my own...I managed to do "nothing" for a couple of years and the date I joined this board was pretty much the date I had to go back to work because of crippling boredom...doing nothing is much much harder than you think...most people who retire and stop working deteriorate and die quickly...your body and mind was not designed to do nothing...

you can not rent your robot to anybody.
everybody who wants an anal-robot can get it for free.

the only "work" humanity have done so far is, to find ways to get rid of work, make work easier or produce more with less expenditure.
think all of that to an endpoint and you will see that work is not a necessary part of our existence.

no animal "works" - they just do things they HAVE to do. if someone else would do it for them they still would survive.

Yes, i know. I like working. But i travel the whole world in the meantime since 8 years. Have some friends that don´t like working and we meet everywhere. But i can not do nothing whole day. They have hobby's though, star guitar lessons, make music. We also don´t like to become like some pensioners in Pattaya, sitting at 13:00 with a (beer)belly at the bar where there is happy hour with some annoying hookers. Hardly enough money to get an insurance.

I don´t need a cooking robot now, eating for 5 USD in the restaurant here. Travelled last 6 months from Brazil to Jamaica, Holland, Thailand, Cambodia and soon in Vietnam. And than next year i move to latin america again and will see panama, costa rica, and some more countries.I wont be bored that fast. And i still have to sail around the carribean for a year.

Verysimple tomanswer. Thepeople who invest the vast sums needed to build them will own them

it does not make sense to discuss that with you as you do not even understand what money is.
I understand the EU fucked up with the Euro better than the EU do. They gave Greece the Euro for all the wrong reasons and now landed them in debts Greeks can't pay. The excuse that Greece gave them false accounts shows even more how bad they are. It's called Due Diligence. Giving a currency to lots of different countries with different economies, tax systems and spending, without a central control is an elementary mistake. You should not talk about things you don't understand.

You believe a wonderful Utopia will come true. With no idea what you talk about.

think all of that to an endpoint and you will see that work is not a necessary part of our existence.

no animal "works" - they just do things they HAVE to do. if someone else would do it for them they still would survive.
Who will build the robots and organise the distribution of the free anal-robots? Or will everyone get a free anal-robot and a free cooking, cleaning, driving, entertainment, healthcare, etc robots as well?

In Thommy's Utopia there won't be any work and we will all have to do nothing all day long. Plus you will fly around the world for free in his robot made, operated and maintained airships.

That's assuming they haven't invented a free transporter.

work defines and makes a man what he is...it is exactly like physical exercise or studying...you learn and practice and evolve in to something better...you do so because you are given structure and leadership and goals that lead in to decades of practice...work is what made us what we are today...every invention and business is a result of homo sapiens working...

taking away work from a man and giving him UBE is like putting an animal in a zoo...sure the animal does not need to worry about anything, free food will be delivered...sure the animal can do as it wishes, except that one thing, what it was meant to do...taking away work from low skilled people in the name of profit is cruel and unusual punishment...it is a debilitating condition....de-evolution...

oh and lets not forget that all those unemployed low skilled people are going to be our burden now...they are never becoming engineers and programmers LOL...most of them will be unemployed forever...exactly 30% of all USA homosapiens are capable of higher work (percent of college graduates in the USA)...out of those 30% half are completely useless crap like literature and art and history and shit...dumb useless shit...85% of the population is practically useless...everybody who says "there will be jobs for robot designers" can suck a truck full of dicks

but boy oh boy will that parkour terminator make nice bank for a few people oh you gotta love it, not only will they take our jobs but our lives as well

but a few people will live more comfortable lives at the great expense of billions so I guess this is progress...

not really - it is a result of using our brains.
the goal was NEVER to get things done with work. the goal was always reach efficiency with the lowest use of energy.

the robots are also a result of this goal.

you still think too much in the NOW. just let your mind free and imagine it without that burden of work and money.
the worm in the apple didn't plant the apple tree and didn't harvest the apple either. all his work consists of eating it.

you should read about the history of the jews.
to work was prohibited for them in the most cultures.
what they did instead was learning and studying and lending money (as this was allowed).

in my future they could not lend money as nobody needs it.
but everybody could still study and learn. and whatever he will find out is for all.

true - THIS will be the start but not the final.
as soon as everybody have learned that we do not really need money and jobs as we do have machines doing all for us it will go into another direction.

this is the part marx, engels and other communists have missed in their vision.
with the options they had communism never works.
with robots and AI it will - even when it is still a very long way there.

WHO would lose if i am right ? NOBODY ! and this is why it can only become true in a yet far future.

most homo sapiens require structure and discipline...they need guidance...they need motivation...they NEED hardship...they NEED a problem...maybe 1 in 10 have sufficient inner drive and determination to do something with their life...the rest just become social media zombies smoking weed and playing video games all day...

look up the "calhoun experiment" with mice...they made an utopia with mice and the mice started acting crazy...same story...mice were not built to live like this...neither were humans or anybody else...IF you take away the #1 thing the being was meant for, you will change the way it behaves...

personal trainers exist because most people lack the discipline and motivation to work out...most homo sapiens simply do not have what it takes...go out on the streets and you will see 10% fit people, 90% not fit...I am being generous with the 10% it is much less...the same applies to work....you say "we can go in to another direction" where people could explore space or do art or whatever...this is false simply because most humans will do nothing but become obese internet zombies...

I love star trek and I used to dream about a world free from bullshit and humans exploring space and free from money...but we are a looooong way away from this and human nature is not what we would like it to be...

Who will organise this Utopia before it's a Utopia and then will they give up control?

Your problem is plain to see, you forget the element of people like Hitler, Stalin, Pol pot, Saddam and 100s of others who desire power over their fellow citizens. Even the EU has you fooled, they promise they'rebuilding a Utopia by removing power from membership countries. Will they give it up one day or will they carry on being in power, worse still be a people like Hitler, Stalin, Pol pot, Saddam, etc who decide on all the rules and punishment for those who don't follow them.
