The new Corvette....

I am surprised that there isn't already a post about the new Corvette on GFY....

I have never been a huge fan of the Corvette - I like them but don't love them - but it seems like Chevy knocked it out of the park with their new Corvette... Which starts under $60k.

I love it, just wish it came with a manual option.

That's exactly what I thought..... It looks like a Lambo.

Corvette has been looking more like an exotic car for some time now.... I think it's great.

I don't think anyone needs manual any more.... It's more of a throw back at this point. Automatics are just so much more faster.

I think I read that the Corvette could go into manual mode with paddle shifters?

The new Corvette is the first mid-engine version. It's about time. I drove the 2018 version last summer and its beautiful and sexy and awesome, but all the weight in the front made the car too slippery on the road. This new version should change that.

I'm sad to see Manual Transmissions go, but I understand the reason. As fun as they are, they suck in the city, they are slow compared to automatic, add a lot of weight and extra parts, and very very expensive to service.

I can't wait until GM rolls out the electric Corvette. (And electric Camaro).

Yes Mark, we all fully believe that you "test drove" a Corvette and were driving it so hard that the front end was breaking loose in the turns or that you could barely get it to drive in a straight line.

It's a DCT which will surely be faster than a manual, definitely not arguing that. Even the new Ford Mustang GT500 will not come with a manual option.

I'm in it more for the experience. I had a 700hp car with a fully built racing transmission w/ paddles and it gets boring rather quickly. #savethemanuals

My Mustang was a six speed and put out 450 hp. It was a pain in the ass to drive at low speeds. If you drive on curvy roads where you can push it all the time, that's great. But my car spend most of it's time in the suburbs.

I'm curious, then, what was/is the point of having such a car if you never took it anywhere to enjoy how it was meant to be driven?

To me, having an automatic sportscar is like having an automatic motorcycle. Why bother?

Exactly what I'm getting at. Im a track guy myself...1/4 mile is fun and all but it takes a real driver to hit the road course.

1/4 mile - Fast Car
Road Course - Fast Driver

Automatics are heavier than manuals and require more maintenance and parts. You know what happens when those clutches inside the wear out? A full trans rebuild. On a manual all you would do is replace the clutch which doesnt require a full overhaul.

Autos are MUCH more expensive to service than a manual.

Oh, we made trips down to SoCal where there is a lot of nothing and great places to open up the car.

LOL! You're Kinda pathetic.

A Corvette is a rear-wheel drive, not a front wheel drive. The front of the car is heavier than in the back. It's beautifully engineered and rock stable in turns even at high speed. This is not at all what I was talking about, asshole. You can set the car into various modes such as Track Mode, Manual mode, etc. Some modes stop the rear wheels from spinning when you gun it. In full manual mode this is hard to control because the car is light in the back. Moving the engine to the back can create a better grip. Better grip = less wheel spin = faster departure.

My 2013 2SS RS 1LE 600HP 6SP Camaro had settings similar to this, one of them called "Launch Mode". Essentially you could floor the gas pedal and the rear wheels would spin as fast as possible while the computer would control grip.

Next time you want to grandstand, it helps to know what the fuck you're talking about. If you don't, go back in to your corner and shut the fuck up.

I stand corrected. In my personal experience (7 out of my 10 cars) have been manual. I wrecked the transmission on 2 of them and the cost was about $2000 each. I've never wrecked an automatic transmission.

it kinda looks like a ferrari/lambo mix...its like a lambo was cut in half horizontally and they put a ferrari 458 top part on it...lambo bottom, ferrari top...the corvette design is gone...

You are correct but the Vette you can get in for $60k and will turn as many heads as the other 2.

I want one and if I win the lottery or go back in time a decade and could've saved the money I blew in AZ I could buy that car in cash 3 times over.

its a shame about the design...I am a huge vintage corvette design fan...the vintage ones were THE SHIT...it screamed individuality, it was like no other car...kinda like the porshe 911, a timeless design...they could have gone many ways with this but they decided to make it a "china knock off" looking vehicle and this is a shame...I am sure it is a fine car and rips ass and is a bargain compared to ferrari but its a shame they lost the stunning design they used to have...

What exactly did you wreck? The clutch? Its pretty hard to blow a manual transmission...

Honestly I don't know. I don't think it was the clutch. When the car was new, the engine would engage the wheels when I would let the clutch up half way or so. But as it wore out, the engine would engage only once the clutch was near the top. This was fixed once. After about 4 years the car made this weird sound that I can't describe and it would not go to 3rd gear. I had to shift 1-2-4-5. This was a $2500 job to fix in 1994.

Slave cylinder and a 3rd gear synchro...What kinda car was this? $2500 is pretty excessive even by todays standards.

They finally put the engine in the rear which is why it looks like the other rear engine super cars.. All rear engine sports cars have that same style look.

Lame...
I take it you've never seen a LaFerrari or a Ford GT Steering wheel. Bunch of idiots designing F1 inspired parts and close ratio steering racks! Blasphemy!

Those are stupid too btw.. These are road cars, not F1. It looks retarded and has no use.

It's like .. "hey we must come up with something new, let's reinvent the steering wheel and use a fucking square instead of the boring old circular shape" .. ROFL.

I prefer this one

Lambo FTW

The reason is so the wheel doesn't hit your legs while turning or while getting in and out. It's a road car where you don't need to turn the wheel 360 degrees...its not a school bus. Flat bottom at least, square wheels are awesome if you're into into doing anything other than drive in a straight line. F1 inspired parts refers to more than just the wheel. The CF unibody is based on F1 tech as is the entire vehicle.

To me, having an automatic sportscar is like having an automatic motorcycle. Why bother?
So that he could use it to interject himself into any car conversation years after owning it. It's Rochard we're talking about.

How can a wheel "hit your legs" while turning it? It's a fucking circle .. Actually it's the corners of the "square" that could hit your legs when turning ROFL..

Exactly, this is a road car so you are also supposed to drive it in traffic, narrow streets, parking lots, not racing circuits and if someone is too big to get in, it's just not a car for him.

Sorry, the "square" just looks retarded to me. Actually, I don't like the whole interior, but every man to his taste I guess

Well with close ratio steering you only need to turn the wheel a couple inches if that...the flat part would remain over your thighs. I do agree that it looks odd but I'm a function over form kinda guy.

I have a flat bottom in my track/weekend car and a full round in my daily
