I had a 45 acp. I was told all brands of 45 acp have a tendency to jam???

My full-size semi auto is a Kimber Custom II .45acp. It has never jammed once in >500 rounds. My everyday carry is the Custom Carry .45. Also no jams. I have shot Glocks, Ruger, H&K, each at .45 and never had any problems with them either. Of course I've not put as many rounds through them as my Kimber. Personally, I prefer the .45 to 10mm or less, but it all comes down to personal preferences. My late wife shot 9mm, 10mm, and .40 better than most people at the range.

As far as barrel length goes, the longer the barrel the more accurate the shot, the more efficient the burn (more powder gets to burn within the barrel rather than outside it increasing your FPS and accuracy), and a slightly more-balanced feel (at least to me). It is more difficult to conceal, though.

If you take care of your weapons, they will take care of you.

Pfff... A revolver or a pistol? Which size (big/small barrel)? For what purpose? Which exactly country it was made etc.

To be short: want a reliable and light gun? Buy Glock made in Austria.

I'm planning on taking self defense lessons and moving out of LA County and getting a carry permit. purely for self defense.

I guy came in my apt in the middle of the night one time. he went into the bathroom. I got up with my gun behind my back and looking into the bathroom I saw he was chopping blow. I asked him to leave and he did. he never saw the gun.

I was taught never show your gun unless you are planing to kill someone for self protection. I'm think 10 mm or 45 short barrel. no long distance shooting, if they are that far away I use knife fighting principles... run like a mother fucker lol!!

The door was unlocked. It happens in apts. People get off on the wrong floor or just go to the wrong door. Notice how he wasn’t looking to steal and no mention of forced entry? Still sucks but it helps to lock the door. I live in a big apt building and have done it a few times over the years.

I got the gun because 2 girls in the next apartment were killed by shotgun, I was home at the time. pretty fucked up feeling hearing a shot gun blasting away on the other side of a 1/2 Sheetrock wall ... if you don't kill them you'll be fucked in court. with them dead 1 less witness against you. I was living in Hollywood California at the time. Hollywood is a very bad place, now i live up in the high desert. a few issue but a quiet neighborhood. I'm more concerned about the open road, robberies etc... I actually hate carrying a gun, the weigh etc.. . I'll just keep the gun in the car or on the bike unless I find a way I like to carry

The best gun is the one that fits your hand the best, and the one that you shoot the best. It's really not as simple as "this gun is better than that one". It's a personal thing, to you only.

My personal preference is Kimber (I have a few) and my old trusty Colt M1991A1. An off the shelf Kimber feels and shoots almost as good as a hand-fitted match grade Colt. Sometimes with a brand new Kimber, I may get a failure to feed during the first 50 rounds, but it is pretty much broken in by then and just runs flawless afterward. The only problem I have ever had with my 29 year old Colt was a worn out sear spring causing light primer strikes. Replace all springs with a set from Wilson Combat and it fires perfect again.

My next favorite is the Hk USP 45.

I've tried many other pistols but they don't fit my hand the way I like, or the triggers are mushy (Glocks especially by design).

Maybe in the USA. In my country they always comeback like ghosts in court, so you may (actually will) get about 7 years in prison for that, even if it was a situation clearly dangerous for your life. We have different laws about self defense...

P.S. Just not a .22LR. It's good for sport shootings. The assassins use it for murders with a suppressor (it's really silent), but for a self defense it's noting. So everything over .30 caliber (.32, .35 etc) is a real gun. Especially with expansive cartridges. Depends on your preferences, of course.

I like the 1911 however i was told by a competitive shooter that 1911's are not reliable, so I made this post. I actually do not enjoy shooting guns I will get trained though and carry.

The 1911 is totally unreliable. You shouldn't trust it. It's unreliability is so legendary that it's been in use by US military forces for over a hundred straight years now. Fuck that piece of shit gun.

The 1911a is reliable, but a revolver is more reliable. If you can't protect yourself with 6 rounds, you need more practice.
If this is for protection, get a 3.57 magnum, the variety of bullets you can buy is the largest as you can shoot 38 special as well .
Get some nasty bullets for protection .
Shiny finish is a plus, when you show it to a potential target, it adds weight to the situation and greatly increases it's deterant value .
Taurus makes some really good revolvers.
Better control, more accurate, you can do more damage when you hit the target.
When I go to the range, all my targets have holes in the head.

That pretty much sums up my thoughts on that, too.

OP - if you'll be in an apartment and are only looking for self-defense, consider also that a .45 or similar will have a very good chance to go through that 1/4" thick sheet rock without issue, even if you hit your target with every shot.

There is no better deterrent than the sound of a 12g shotgun shell being loaded.

the guy i was talking about is a survival guy that shoots with survival cops, but yeah 1911 is for me, then again a 10 mm hold more rounds

my first choice was a tarsus 'judge' but they are illegal in cally, and my second though I didn't want to kill everybody in the building by blowing threw all the walls.

if I was going to shoot for fun I would get a black powder navy colt

Always wanted this one (not for a self defense, but just for fun), but you won't get a license for it in Russia. Funny, a 7.62 AK47 is ok - you can legally buy it anywhere, but an old powder Colt revolver is a crime here...

Like if you asked which pants to wear. P.S. Just not a .22LR. It's good for sport shootings. The assassins use it for murders with a suppressor (it's really silent), but for a self defense it's noting. So everything over .30 caliber (.32, .35 etc) is a real gun. It's really not as simple as "this gun is better than that one". It's a personal thing, to you only. My personal preference is Kimber (I have a few) and my old trusty Colt M1991A1. An off the shelf Kimber feels and shoots almost as good as a hand-fitted match grade Colt. Sometimes with a brand new Kimber, I may get a failure to feed during the first 50 rounds, but it is pretty much broken in by then and just runs flawless afterward. The only problem I have ever had with my 29 year old Colt was a worn out sear spring causing light primer strikes. Replace all springs with a set from Wilson Combat and it fires perfect again. My next favorite is the Hk USP 45. I've tried many other pistols but they don't fit my hand the way I like, or the triggers are mushy (Glocks especially by design).

If you can't protect yourself with 6 rounds, you need more practice. If this is for protection, get a 3.57 magnum, the variety of bullets you can buy is the largest as you can shoot 38 special as well . Get some nasty bullets for protection . Shiny finish is a plus, when you show it to a potential target, it adds weight to the situation and greatly increases it's deterant value . Taurus makes some really good revolvers. Better control, more accurate, you can do more damage when you hit the target. When I go to the range, all my targets have holes in the head. __________________ Webair died? Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants think about that

Don’t take advice from this guy or that guy What is Comfy and shoots well for me may not be comfy and shoot well for you:.... sure it may be a great firearm but if you aren’t comfy carrying it then you won’t and that defeats the whole thing.... I don’t know anyone that wants to be shot with even a .22 If that’s what your comfy with that’s what you carry.... Personally I’m a Sig guy.... Glock is good, Kimber is good, sig is good....
