What would you do if visa/mastercard pulled the plug?

Seriously people what would you do if there was no more credit card processing? I think I would max all my credit cards and never pay them back, lol

Pulled the plug on adult? Or pulled the plug, period? Maxing out your cards probably isn't a good idea, they'll still want their money.

if the credit card companies pulled the plug on paying for porn it would be the best thing ever.

another card would be born to pay for adult transactions online and we would all be better off for it.

CyberAge has already started something like it .

and I don't work for cyberage, in case you was wondering

Man..that would totally level the playing field. No more rebills. No more incoming cash...except from dialers or 900. Ever see the movie "escape from LA"? it would be the equivolent of a porn apocolypse...but I think if something like that happened simultaneously to everyone customers would have no choice but to use whatever you present..which would most likely be a dialer of 900. There would be a huge adjustment period, but those with established relationships would endure.

I would first max out all my Visa/MCs then file for Chapter 7 as a fuck you to them

Then I would set up 900/Dialer software for my pay sites.

So if the average surfer wants to buy online porn, you really believe they'd go through the trouble of signing up for a special credit card? I think not.

there would be ways to do it... it would probably be tied into some sort of physical goods as a bonus...

they are going to impose surcharges on us, but to do away with it completely would kill a huge stream of revenue for them.

That would never happen! That's like asking "What if Visa and MC stopped processing for gambling sites?" Why even bother wondering, it won't happen.

Actually....the house just voted for a bill making it illegal for anyone in the U.S. to pay for online gambling sites based outside of the United States. Still has to go into conference with the senate..but it passed.

900# sales wouldn't save you. Too many people just can't have a large fee on their family phone bill.

It's quite easy for a surfer to slip that $30 fee into the CC statement, and not have to worry that anyone will question it or even see it for that matter.

But with the phone.... You are limiting sales to those who live alone.

Nope. Wouldn't fly. Even eBay has outlawed that. You can't sell something on there, and include an event ticket (or any other banned item) for free. So you now the CC co's would do something similar.

There is always reocurring checks and direct debit. Don't say the credit card won't pull the plug if they ever want to. Look at American Express. They pulled it with out a second thought.

I'm talking about the average surfer who buys porn now. The very vast majority would not be willing to do that. So basically you'd be left with thousands of sites targeting the porn addicts. There are a lot of them, but certainly not the numbers we try to sell to now.

agreed

but I don't think Visa or M/C closing it's door on porn is causing the already apparent 'consolidation' of porn....

my guess is we can thank p2p, saturation, and general porn surfer malaise on that....

only the true salesmen, companies and product will survive...

being able to resell supermarket porn has become a thing of the past imo...

Unless you're talking Europeans, Americans love their rubber checks. 900 is an option but what happens if another Worldcom bombshell hits? Epassporte, why wouldn't that be another PayPal (owes us $2500). Someone needs to do debit for US customers, I'd jump ship immediately since the security is better. After PayPal, every alternative seems to scare the bejeezus out of me since there's no guarantees.

I mean, who thought printing the CVV2 on the card was a good idea? It's obvious to us that even verifying this relies on cards info not being compromised, people have gotten access to VISA/\MC's CVV2 database somehow, it should be self-selected like a PIN and not hardcoded. htpasswd verification, which is admittedly lax, never has a cleartext password, only a verification. It's basic.

LOL make them send cash, hahaha that would be great.

Seriously I'd say debits, online checks and dialer options. Maybe sell your sites on CDRom through another business name could work as well.

Who are you emailing doug? Drop me a line and I'll get you whatever you need pronto -- [email protected]

ePassporte is a Curacao based financial services company which is completely independent of Epoch as far as the dollars are distributed now. Epoch did develop the technology behind it and does the support for it but that doesn't make them the same

ePassporte is also not a 5967 MCC on transactions which changes the situation drastically regarding credit card companies.

Credit cards could pull out at any time, and it would be a good thing. People will still want their porn, and they'll find a way to pay for it.

I would sack the programmers and start selling to all the magazines that started up.

IMO if Visa/MC pulled the plug like Amex did it would pull down 75% of the sites in this industry. The options would be dialer or phones and that would seriously effect business. It would remove a lot of the free porn, so those that survived would be very strong.

what headaches?

customer buys a porn membership, spanks his monkey and splooges over his keyboard. calls visa and says 'i didn't make that transaction'. visa gives him his money back and grabs themselves a chargeback fee for their troubles.

visa has been ass fucking everyone in this industry for years.

New billing methods would be devised within a couple of days. We are a pioneer industry. We develop the technology and business ideas that the mainstream steals and markets 3 years later.

Actually, why don't you try funding an account at a sportsbook with an American Visa card? Visa has been blocking such transactions for at least a year, maybe more. Gamblers just use Neteller or another type of 3rd party internet account. The adult business would follow the same route. The CC processors would die out, but the rest of the adult biz would remain largely unchanged.
