I must be WAY out of the loop! This is honestly the first about drugs being at the convention that I have heard. While I admit, I rarely go out, I did not realize I was that oblivious to the drugs going around. I saw a lot of booze, but that was it.

well, not having been there is is impossible to know what happened and therefore not on to directly address any individual situation. Expect to say that the bit of interaction I have had with him on boards hasn't been bad but hey a board is a board.

On more general issues there are two issues here. One is about private behaviour and the other is about being professional.

In private people can do anything they like and I am not going to care (if it is illegal that is for the law to deal with). After all, how many movies do you go see where someone down the money line is on drugs? If they are a personal friend that is a different matter...time to have a chat out of real concern.

That said, I was always taught to act with respect in public - ie be on my best behaviour - because you never know who is watching and how that will influence your life. People deciding not to do buisness is a prime example. The better behaved you are - decorum is the word that comes to mind - the more people are going to want to be around you. If you make them uncomfortable they might laugh for a little bit but are eventually going to leave you alone to your own devices.

This thread brings up a lot of valid good points, and some bad ones. When people say what he does in his private life should be left there, well when you are in a hotel room filled with webmasters from around the world that is not your private life, it's a networking business party.

I will say that Easton did go to the hospital, but it was not due to drugs, he got server laryngitis and his throat closed up, they needed to go in and do a procedure on his throat to clear a pathway so he could breathe properly.

We all know there is a lot of drug usage that goes on at the shows, and for the most part people usually keep it behind closed doors and do it in the bathroom or elsewhere, I don't see any harm in that, but when you pose for a picture while holding up a sack of coke that's not cool in my book.

There is enough heat on the industry and the last thing we need is the fed or cops showing up at the shows busting parties and looking for drugs, if they raided a big party and searched people for drugs there would be some big shit going down. That's something to think about.

We all party and have a good time, I admit myself I like to drink and with friend?s host?s smaller parties for people to come hang out drink Jager and have fun. I don't see a problem with drinking or even doing drugs as long as it's done properly!

And while you might get that arrest expunged from your record, it will take money and attorney to do so. And I know its not just a >little< money to do so.

Here is potential scenario in Florida (I've only practiced criminal defense in florida so i dont know about other states but I would hazard that the risk is about the same in most other states in the USA).
Police arrive and the holders of drugs drop them on the ground. Police have everyone on the ground with drug bags all around. They arrest nearly everyone on possession. The Prosecutors office would have the option to charge possession based on the theory of constructive possession, which basically means that you were within the ability to control the drugs as they were so close to you. The actual filing decision by the state attorneys office in Broward would likely result in many of these cases being broken down to misdemeanor drug paraphernalia charges or pre-trial intervention or maybe out right drops. That still doesnt negate the fact you would be arrested and taken to jail, have to bond out or spend the night in the slammer until the next mornings first appearance. Not to mention that those from out of state and out of the country would have higher bonds due to them being potential flight risks. All in all it would be a very bad situation.

Bottom line, if you want to be respected as a professional, act as one. If you want to carry felony class drugs like cocaine and do them at parties, or watch others do them at parties and not leave, you are accepting the potential liability that comes with your acceptance of this risk. Our industry is risky enough without adding in risk of prosecution for narcotics that arent even yours.

We all know there is a lot of drug usage that goes on at the shows, and for the most part people usually keep it behind closed doors and do it in the bathroom or elsewhere, I don't see any harm in that, but when you pose for a picture while holding up a sack of coke that's not cool in my book.

There is enough heat on the industry and the last thing we need is the fed or cops showing up at the shows busting parties and looking for drugs, if they raided a big party and searched people for drugs there would be some big shit going down. That's something to think about.

We all party and have a good time, I admit myself I like to drink and with friend?s host?s smaller parties for people to come hang out drink Jager and have fun. I don't see a problem with drinking or even doing drugs as long as it's done properly!

Expect to say that the bit of interaction I have had with him on boards hasn't been bad but hey a board is a board. On more general issues there are two issues here. One is about private behaviour and the other is about being professional. In private people can do anything they like and I am not going to care (if it is illegal that is for the law to deal with). After all, how many movies do you go see where someone down the money line is on drugs? If they are a personal friend that is a different matter...time to have a chat out of real concern. That said, I was always taught to act with respect in public - ie be on my best behaviour - because you never know who is watching and how that will influence your life. People deciding not to do buisness is a prime example. The better behaved you are - decorum is the word that comes to mind - the more people are going to want to be around you. If you make them uncomfortable they might laugh for a little bit but are eventually going to leave you alone to your own devices.
