New Airline/Airport Changes
This is ridiculous!!!!!!!! I got this email from US Airways today...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To ensure the safety and security of airline passengers, heightened security measures have been implemented at airports. - Baggage will no longer be accepted for check in at curbside or at off-airport locations. - People without tickets will not be permitted in the gate areas to greet arriving passengers or see off departing passengers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Also, from listening to the TV, security is gonna do everything BUT a strip search at airports now!! This is NOT the way to "control" airport security!! People have to wait HOURS in line before their plane takes off. There *HAS* to be a better way to make sure airports are safe!! I'm not looking forward to my flight to Cleveland,OH in November!!! |
Hey Mischief
![]() I agree that security needs to be tight...but they are taking away the one thing that I love about my country..FREEDOM!! I can no longer get off a plane & get butterflies in my stomach waiting to see my family with smiles & hugs waiting for me...I guess I'll have to invest in a cell phone to see where in the airport they are..or call cab. ![]() |
The bad thing is, this whole thing had "almost" nothing to do w/ airport security. These bguys (specualting) got thru w/ box cutters in their toiletries bag (I wanna say atashae, but have no idea how to spell it!). Sure they say they had badges, but they also say what I said. No one knows for sure. And to loose sky caps...that's an inconvience I guess we''' all have to deal with. At least they put the sky marshalls back on the plabes...which they NEVER shoul've taken off in the first place (just to save a few bucks).
Yeah but atleast with these new rules you should have a higher chance of getting off the plane at all. Fair trade in my book. |
The problem is not with friends & families waiting for their loved ones to get off the plane....its with the people getting ON the plane at the original place of departure!!!
Heres what i think we can do to make airports/airplanes safe; -Make a Cock Pit door that is non-collapsable & bulletproof -TRAIN security, baggage handlers & X-Ray scanners more properly (many of them are NOT trained at ALL!) -Random bag checks. How did this become the PUBLIC's problem?? Its the AIRPORTS fault!!!! They hired & never trained their employee's! And made paper-thin Cock Pit doors...why should I have to suffer? |
Extra security at the airport is not giving up your freedom. It's giving up convenience. I for one, think it's worth the trade.
You hit the nail on the head Jamie, pilots should be in a virtual cacoon, untouchable by anyone on board.
Sometimes a society has to give up a few freedoms in order to preserve all freedoms. I'll gladly wait an extra while at the border if it means that maybe one day they catch some would-be assassin trying to cross. I'll gladly give up an extra hour or two of my life if it means that my plane actually reaches it's destination. And I certainly won't gripe when my bags are searched from now on, because I know it's not me they're looking for, it's these asshole terrorists.
If my being inconvenienced for a few years means that someone's child get's to live, I have no problem with it. What if they were to relax security just because I'm not happy about the extra 2 or 3 hours I had to wait, and some terrorist asshole makes it through again and kills a pile of our people. Am I going to feel good about my lousy 3 hours? no, not hardly. Tighten it up as much as it needs to be tightened, it's called "doing our part" and we all must play a part in this for the greater plan to work effectively. Having said all that, babagirls is free to come back and give me one of her famous "grrrrr's" ![]() CD. |
I'll have to agree w/ badgirls...it's the airport's fault. They hire paople off the street for min. wage & never train them to be what they should! I will have to disagree w/ Red tho. It is giving up a freedom (as well as a convienence)! Freedom is a HUGE convienece & we shouldn't have to suffer for it...BUT if it REALLY helps save innocent lives, then it's worth giving up that freedom! BUT...like I said...was it really security's fault or were these guys just being really smart? They took what was USED as weapons that are totally legal & used it to their advantage.
I'll tell ya, I just got caught up in customs less than a week ago coming back into the country, & almost missed my flight cuz they thought I had drugs on me! The security was almost overwelming cuz I had NOTHING! I almost missed my flight cuz they were so thurrow (sp?). I got searched to the fullest extent (not too much fun at all...lemme tell ya!). So was it security or just plain ignorance? |
Baba quit your whining!
I know of about 5,000 people that would have walked through the airport nude if that meant they could have lived. This is no fucking freedom you are losing this is a fucking convience. A convience that you should not have had. I bet you are the kind of person that tries to get someone fired just for getting your burger wrong! So stop confusing freedoms for something else. You have freedom of movement but that freedom never had anything to do with Flight. |
With increased safety and secruity comes more inconviences. It's a fair trade in my books too. A little inconvience is no big deal when it comes to increased safety and secruity. I would much rather be inconvienced than to have anything like this to happen ever again. The inconviences that you may be having to fly in the US will still be nothing compared to many other places around the world.
As for the cockpit door situation, they definitely need to make some changes. Although it's easier said than done. There are structural properties of planes that limit how sturdy the cockpit door can be. In addition, in many cases the hijackers don't actually need to bust the cockpit door down. They may threaten the lives of the crew or passengers to make the pilot or co-pilot open the door. I will 'suffer' through incovience, but SOME of the guidelines they are now enforcing are ridiculous! They need to FIX the problem, not make more!
I believe in the tightest of security, & checking baggage; you want to bitch at someone? BITCH AT THE FUCKERS THAT LET THE TERRORIST GET ON THE PLANE WITH MORE THAN ONE KNIFE!!!!!!!!! How did that get through security? Not because *I* failed as a passenger!!! Because *THEY* failed as "security" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Strife, I think there should be a rule, written in stone, that says the pilot shall not leave the cockpit for any reason at all.
Or they should make a law where if you disturbed a flight you can be put to death on that flight. That includes the fuckers that start punching people cuz their drink was too warm. Let one Flight attendant be a marshall fully armed on every plane! |
It would be cool if the pilots were in a sealed separate compartment all-together from the rest of the plane. All the crew has the same radio com-links that secret-servicemen have, the crew is armed with pepper spray and tasers/electronic imobilizers, and lastly, the pilot and co-pilot have the passenger compartement on full audio/video, and they have a switch that, if necessary, they can gas all the passengers to sleep in extreme emergencies
I still feel there should be many more restrictions. The fact that security is so relaxed is in direct relation to the fact that we all want to pay $100 to fly cross country. We also want to just go to the Airport, check our baggage on the curb and get on the plane. The Airlines should stop cowing to customers and begin using prossessesessess (spelling) that make it safe to fly. |
One thing I totally don't get is why they even allow people to carry knives aboard planes in the first place. I guess they never thought a plane could be hijacked with a knife...
They don't exactly ALLOW knives. They had them (supposedly) in their totietry bag (ya know, where ya keep your razor, toothbrush, etc.). It's alomost undetectable in there.
Knives can be contrived of many different substances these days that are non-detectable. They can come in several interlocking parts that are assembled once on board a plane.
Again, my procedures save the day..... "Ladies and gentlemon, we are represent the (insert terrorist orgasmization here), and this flight will be taken ove..." SZZZZAPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (from 3 different stewardesses at once) Stewardess: "Anyone else wanna FUCK with us?" (the other hijackers give up their knives, and are strapped into thier seats, the entire passenger list is allowed to file past and ZZZAPP! the fuck out of them fo the rest of the flight. ZZZAPP!! "Ahhh!!! Allah!! Save meeee!!!" ZZZAPPP!!!! ZAAAAAAAPP!!!! (smell of burning terrorist) Ahh, praise Allah ![]() |
Damn...
For starters...I was supposed to leave on Tuesday with eight friends for a flight to some international WARM waters. Needless to say...we are not leaving US air space. Yes..this sucks. But in the scheme of things, it could be a lot worse. Thank god we are ok, and I pray for the people who did not have the chance to think about it. Security is something we need to adhear to..conveinance can wait. [This message has been edited by JAC (edited 09-15-2001).] |
my friends daughter used to be a stewardess at British Airway
and she told me that most of the time the door to the cockpit is never even locked the FAA has to go further than the cosmetic restrictions implemented this week and address the more serious and costly implementations of security systems, certified and deputized security guards, air marshals and numerous other safeguards the world has changed and the FAA has been operating with an antiquated mindset these rules and security measures should be implemented on all international and domestic flights from every airport in the world so get ready for a huge bump in ticket prices, airlines hate having to lose cash from their bottom line - perfect example of their money saving techniques: oxygen is recycled on flights just to save a few bucks (maybe that explains why so many people get flu's and colds after flying) |
