you know what - i've been thinking a LOT about this and here's my opinion.

I don't like .xxx

I don't like seeing the asacp publically support .xxx

reality is - i don't have the right to tell any organization other then my own house what to do - but with an organization like the asacp i do have the right to express my opinions and as a small sponser of them i would hope at least that they would at a min listen if only for a second as to what I have to say.

i don't see the asacp accepting money from .xxx in any way form or fashion as influeincing what they do or how they do it.

the asacp does in fact review those people who they accept money from, ensuring that they follow guidelines acceptable to the asacp and I'm wondering how it could be humaninaly possible for them to accept money from .xxx when it's open for almost any to buy a .xxx url and put anything they want up on it. there is no controll to my knowledge as to what goes on a .xxx url.

would it be possible for a person to buy a .xxx url and have content on it - like say a 17 year old having sex in a region of the world where it's legal to have that content? would the asacp support that?

what about non-nude stuff?

i'm left with the feeling that the .xxx url leaves the asacp susceptable to being sceen as supporting content that they screen all their other clients for and deny membership based on.

i got some info email from them - trying to decypher it now. I'm not that bright and it's a little compleciated for my tiny brain. Other contributing members are probally smarter than me and made more sense of it.

I don't think personally accepting money from .xxx will change their mission - i'm only curious as to how by their standards that they accept other people they could accept a company that would allow anyone to upload anything to their url.

ASACP has sent a message to it's sponsors asking for their feedback, not about whether or not they support or oppose .XXX, but whether or not they believe ASACP communicated it's neutral position effectively originally, or whether ASACP should write a letter of retraction to ICANN. As you're aware many companies are dealing with 2257 issues right now and will hopefully respond to the message to sponsors soon. Until more of them do, a final decision/ action on this will not be made.

Stuart Lawley: This was a misquote.

Clearly the ASACP has goals and a membership complement that fulfills the charter of IFFOR. We have proposed to work closely with the ASACP to establish them as our [child porn] hotline for the .xxx registry. ASACP has been in negotiations with ICM for ASACP to serve as a hotline for reviewing reports of suspected child pornography and perhaps to carry out the secondary monitoring of .xxx sites for child pornography.

No formal deal or promises of funding have been made with ASACP, however, it would seem blindingly obvious and completely appropriate that ASACP would be seen as a likely recipient of grant funding to be issued by IFFOR's grant advisory committee.
