Yah... good luck charging for something that's being used on a million + sites.

It'll take them more manhours finding users than what they can gain financially.

I doubt it. There is no way pop-unders were in use back in 1997. 12clicks, you CANNOT prove use of pop-unders back in 97 and neither can anybody else.

I think the first pop-unders were in use back in 1999. I challenge anybody to show proof that there was a single pop-under in use before 1999.

If anybody has any "proof" that they were using pop-unders before 1999, they should post it here, because otherwise the patent COULD issue. I don't think there is any such proof out there.

12Clicks. $500 bucks if you can point me to an archive.org site that uses a blur consol that is a pop-under back in 1997. I was there. There were hardly even pop-ups. I can assure you that you can't find a single pop-under in 1997 or even in 1998.

THEY WEREN'T INVENTED YET.

It doesn't matter when you wrote it. The patent will issue unless you made public the fact that you had invented it. Them's the rules. You have to be able to prove that you released it to the public in early 1999 or before to stop the patent.

This patent is for pop-unders. Popups are irrelevant. Now, if someone claims a patent on the popup . . .

dude, if you back pedal any faster you're going to hurt yourself.

first there were no blurs back then, now a popup that blurs isn't really a popbehind. hahaha. just sit on the porch when you don't know what you're talking about.

Well 12Clicks, it's been an hour since I challenged you. Still no luck?

I don't want to come down on you, but I think you should retract your statement about me posting without a clue. I know what I'm talking about.

If this is the best we can do, we are doomed. This code doesn't do anything. All it does is make a normal pop-up. There is nothing here to do a popunder. Test it out for yourselves.

I suggest that if we really want to blow out the patent, we have the big players put up a reward on Bountyquest.com . If there is anything that was in use, a $25,000 reward will bring it to light! If the patent issues, it could cost each big player hundreds of thousands of $$$ per year. We should try to stop it right now.

'A Web site operator of an adult site, for example, may have used pop-under advertising prior to 2000, but the technology may not have been documented. Someone would have to find reference to such a practice in an article or journal to undermine the patent claim. '

taken from the article. i know intergal had a blur console for webmasters to use in around 98. with archive.org i'm sure there is some documented use for pop unders. so someone should challenge this if they already haven't.

Yes, that is good news. The problem is that they filed so that they can claim that they invented as early as mid-1999 and still get the patent. October might be early enough, but it might not be.

Fuck that. This is too easy
Goto AWI.
Go back to the beginning of the new board (1999)
Find a domain.
Goto Web.archive.org
enter domain
http://web.archive.org/web/199910130...pornrodeo.com/

What do I find:
Code:
window.open('http://www.pornrodeo.com/geisha/main.html','GEE','toolbar=-1,location=0,directories=0,status=1,menubar=1,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,copyhistory=1,target=_blank');
window.focus()
There is your popunder used back in 1999

not that I love 12clicks or even like siding with him, but if you bet him in this case you'll loose and loose big time.
