Spitting on your significant other is not only demeaning it's a sign of 'disgust', the object (in this case you) is 'worthless' all this besides the fact of it being gross - there's not justifying it.

In a heated arguement and considering the upbringing psycho analysis - once the person did it once, that's where the person had to realize that they are continuing his,her parents' error. The cycle had to stop. By you essentially going back, calling a truce, forgiving or justifying it with his her childhood - you are, in fact, allowing this person to prolong their pain rather than stop, realize, commit to change and break the cycle.

whats tragic is that it doesn't matter. the alarm bells are going off all the time but there she is. and when she finally can't rationalize the merits of the relationship, she will probably break up with him... but the cycle will remain the same. the next guy will be no different.

i think relationships are based on individual needs. we find fulfillment of those needs in the other person. so her life will never improve until she gets help and changes the pattern. its almost funny when you think about it... a guy spits in her face, more than once and she just isn't sure if its acceptable behavior. obviously she knows its really far out there and no doubt, this isn't the only red flag.
