Design is not so important when you have paysite/affiliate program

I was notice a lot of paysites/affiliate programs have fancy designs.
But i think that is no somuch matter as content and features are.
Take a look for example naughtybank sites or awe or mayormoney.
Their design suck, but yet again they are very sucessfull.
So what do you think does it design realy so imporant in this biz?

youre an idiot
mayorsmoney paysite design suck?? i think they are damn fine
apart from that you have consider the site niche... of course amateur sites with an amateur look do well...
try that on a general video site and see what happens
design is indeed not the most important thing for a problem but only within reason... days of crappy paysite designs making lots of money are over....

Idiot is a bit harsh.

But I agree... design is important. It's the definition of good vs. bad design that is in question. For some sites and markets, a sleek design is best. For others, an amateurish design is best. If you put an overly sleek design on an amateur site, it's likely not going to do as well.

The important thing in design is the sales pitch and presentation, as with any sales. It has to be clear, with a strong call to action.

My humble opinion.

I'll dare to say that design is not quite as important as usability , I run my site with a nice looking design but, easy to use and with intuitive browsing. In the past I used to forget that not everyone has the same knowledge of the Internet as I do , so , many of my visitors are not skilled surfers and , realizing that, I decided to change the whole look of my site.In two months with my new design I got these results :

traffic x4
I guess because my source code is now easier to read for SE and cleaner too.

clicks to my affiliate program x3
Visitors like my site , in this way is easier to convince them to join.No matter what how good is your site's content , i believe "everything starts with a glance"

click to free conversion x6
When visitors finally land on iwantu.com they already knew they were going to get their membership there no tricks , no cheating , just what it is.

This rules apply obviously , for traffic looking for what you are offering. If you get the wrong traffic , it won't work too much.I have only one year in this market so , if anyone feels I'm wrong or they can add something else or help me in some way I'll really appreciate it.

the presentation of your site is important if you try to sales somethings, sure if your site sales always and not have problems to convert visits to results you dont need worry about this! to affiliates the more important is that you make money! only this! ;-)

Yeah, Fancy designs are not always important, but the design overall ALWAYS is. Whether its flashy or not, it still constitutes as a design and there is never a time when that is never important. I agree, you can still make some sales with no design at all, but that does not make it unimportant.

A design intended to sell is better than a design intended to look pretty.

affiliate designs? wtf u on about klen?

as a webmaster i dont care how an affiliate program looks. Just look at nasty dollars. just a simple page, yet it is the biggest porn site affiliate program in the world. exluding AFF.

However design for surfers sites is very important.

what makes you think that any of those sites are 'successful'? because they advertise places?

some of the best converting sites iv ever sent traffic to had very basic designs, let the content sell itself. design is a gimmick.

if you can somehow convince the surfer that he will enter TONS of TONS of good content and sweet features, I can agree to some point that the design is not the most important. But I'd go with both.

It's not the design that convince the surfer to sign-up but it is the whole impression you present.

affiliate site designs.. who gives a shit about that.

They are successful because they were here first.
That's all there is to it.

Fancy graphics aren't necessary. As long as the tour is built to sell it's all good.
