hmm... police policy is to search a residence after 911 is dialed to confirm that everyone is ok and accounted for. makes perfect sense to me. you have to really have some issues with authority to not understand why this makes sense and then to condemn it.

She insisted she had nothing to hide and there was no cause for distress. Three more officers arrived shortly after, broke down the door and arrested Lieder and her partner, Larry Pierce, for obstruction of justice, she said.

"I was sitting on the couch. They stuck a Taser in my face, threatening me with 50,000 volts," said Pierce, a well-known lawyer. "They threw me on the floor, twisted my left arm. A police officer stuck his knee into my ribs and jumped on me." Later he found out that his two ribs were cracked, recalled Pierce. The couple said the officers began taping them right away even though their rights weren't read until they were in the car. Once in jail, Pierce remembered he was interrogated for over an hour.

North Vancouver RCMP Const. John MacAdam said police are obliged to search the premises after a hang-up 911 call. Pierce maintained his rights were violated and he will go ahead with a lawsuit.

And just to imagine all of this could have been avoided if they said "sure, come on in and look around".

BUT why did the cops on entering the house, use such force and then proceed to arrest and interrogate them?

If I accidentally call the police and then hang up, there's not a chance in hell they are entering my house. If they then try to force their way in, then i'd be inclined to seek legal help!

It is the law that police enter the home when 911 is called. They hindered that process. It didn't work when they asked nicely, so.....

Well it's happened to us a few times mainly because of a faulty phone and the numbers 911 being in the sequence of a 'family members' number.
The kids have dialed 911 in error and shit happens.
For the most part, when I've been around, I took the phone without hanging up and explained what happened. A few times they've come by the house and explained because it was a hangup (or if it happened twice in the same week) they had to come 'check'. They come in - take a look around. See that the kids are laughing at whomever did the mistake - and reminded whomever that 911 is for Emergencies only.

The girl's mistakes were a few:
1) 411 and 911 aren't close on the dialpad. To expect them to think it was a simple mistake, is stupid. Had she said she wanted 611 for technical repairs, it would have been more logical and they wouldn't have dispatched anyone.
2) She hung up the phone. That's 'suspicious' to ANYONE. Had she said - OOPS I meant to dial 611 for technical assistance, they wouldn't have shown up.
3) To be all standoffish - she was asking for them to become suspicious of her.

I am far from a sheep - but if you have nothing to hide when you've made a mistake, then let them do their job. Plain and simple.

yeah, right. Chances are there was some other reason he didn't get hired and this is what he told you. Some of my best friends are cops. These are guys I have known since I was in 8th grade. I help the departments they work for do training (I'm the bad guy in scenarios) and I hang out with a lot of these guys on a regular basis. I've seen how police departments work first hand. Most police departments now hire two types of people to be cops. 1. You have to go through interviews and take a test. Typically you take the test and if you score well enough you do an interview This interview is often a panel interview. Then the department makes their decision. Often times a department will have more people that apply for the job, pass then test and get through the interviews than they could hire. They may find themselves with 10 qualified candidates and only 1 or 2 openings. If they have 1 opening they pick their top choice and they go through psyche evaluation. If they pass that they do a background check and if they pass that they are hired, if not they move to their second choice. In many departments there are people that score really high on the test, but do terribly in the interview or can't pass the background test or something else. Case in point. Another friend of mine applied when a opening was announced at the police department where a couple of my friends work. He scored very high on the test, but in the interview he did terrible. He bascially came off like he was doing them a favor by applying for a job. He seemed arrogant and they didn't like that. So after the test he was one of the top candidates. After the interview he was on the bottom of the list.

This is not to say that there are not stupid "thugs" out there that are cops. A good example is one of the guys my buddy works with. He became a reserve cop and after 8 years of doing that he took and passed the test and they ended up hiring him. They felt comfortable with him because they had known him for a while. As soon as he got the uniform on he became a total arrogant prick and has had several complaints filed against him. He tried to get a job in a different city and couldn't pass the psych evaluation for that city, but where he is at now can't fire him because of the union. They basically have to wait until he really fucks up.

I've always said there are three types of people that become cops. 1. A person that really is legitimately interested doing good things for the community. They want to help people and want to help make a community a good place to live. 2. People that do it because it is a good job that pays well and has great benefits and once you are in it is really hard for them to get you out. And 3. people that have major self-esteem issues and they need to have authority over others to help them feel good about themselves. Of course people can be a little bit of all of these. My friends work with people that graduated at the top of their class and scored in the top 1% on the test statewide. So, getting back to my point, I think your buddy scored well, then fucked up in the interview or something like that and just told you he scored to high because that sounds better than then the truth. They don't choose to not hire you because you scored to high. If someone told him that, they were being polite to him and not telling him the real reason.

Same thing happened me once. I had a woman in my apartment that was drunk, she called a taxi to go home, but I had a lock on the phone so the only digits that worked were the 9's. She dialled 999 and gave some crazy drunk message to the operator.

10 minutes later I had 3 of Belfast's finest boys in green kicking on the door. I opened the door and explained what happened. But they restrained me at the door and went to check the woman was OK.

Once they were satisfied she was OK, they left, but not before telling me that my apartment needed cleaning.

The kids have dialed 911 in error and shit happens. For the most part, when I've been around, I took the phone without hanging up and explained what happened. A few times they've come by the house and explained because it was a hangup (or if it happened twice in the same week) they had to come 'check'. They come in - take a look around. See that the kids are laughing at whomever did the mistake - and reminded whomever that 911 is for Emergencies only. The girl's mistakes were a few: 1) 411 and 911 aren't close on the dialpad. To expect them to think it was a simple mistake, is stupid. Had she said she wanted 611 for technical repairs, it would have been more logical and they wouldn't have dispatched anyone. 2) She hung up the phone. That's 'suspicious' to ANYONE. Had she said - OOPS I meant to dial 611 for technical assistance, they wouldn't have shown up. 3) To be all standoffish - she was asking for them to become suspicious of her. I am far from a sheep - but if you have nothing to hide when you've made a mistake, then let them do their job. Plain and simple.
