The smoking ban here has been going for almost a year now. Pubs, clubs almost everywhere has the ban.

Makes going out for a drink much better, without coming home smelling like an ashtray...

Great shot! I was a little dissapointed not being able to have my ritual cigarette at the airport. I always felt like a lepper in that little smoke room but the first couple of drags were always great despite the shitty feeling...

Well its kind of like the fat woman that turned down the music by the pool in cabo, there were a hundred or so people out there, she wanted it turned down, made me mad that someone would take it upon themselves to decide what we all want....

So lets look at this way, why cant there be smoking pubs and non smoking pubs, why does it have to be all or nothing? Why cant the other 1/2 of people enjoy what they want to do?

Crowd isn't really split like that... in every group you have smokers and non-smokers. They're trying to make it easier for smokers to quit (almost all of the smokers i know want to quit, but can't because they're addicted and being in a smoking environment like a pub makes it that much harder.)

If someone really wants to smoke, go outside... is it really that much trouble? If it is then you have other problems to look into, just because tobacco is legal doesn't mean you're not addicted and abusing a substance.

As Vegas continues to morph away from its 60's Rat Pack libertarian history, expect it to become more and more like other US cities--more and more family friendly, more environmental ordinances, etc. My bet is that once NV's population peaks, you'll see the demise of liberal laws on prostitution and other activities...... That's just the way it goes--it has to adopt to changing demographics and changing times.

Wait a second. I smoke, I also have no current desire to stop until I get the fiance knocked up. Then I will stop and yes I know I can just stop. Oddly I rarely smoke inside of pubs or places I am eating due to mixing the taste of tobacco and food hurts my stomach.
However I also have no fucking desire to roll my ass down some long hallway to head outdoors to smoke which also is required to be X number of feet from the building which is rarely if ever chair safe or accessible. Then sit out in the cold which cold really bothers me a great deal. And I am not even going to mention how hard it is to navigate in let alone out and back in again to a semi crowded area in a chair.

I guess what I really should do is begin to think of only myself and make the world conform to how I like it. I am tired of sitting nose level to bars. I am sick of not being able to roll under a table due to a single table leg. I want a special gap area in the lounge style chairs to so that I can pull into them to be out of the way, yet be cool like the other people. Then while I am at it many hallways, walkways, areas between shelves and the whole like must also be changed so I can not only fit but comfortably turn around in. Then speaking of Vegas, I want lower tables, lower slot machines, leg room under the slots, lowered craps games, and playroom bars to be at my proper height in at least one area. All carpet must also go as it causes undo strain, wear and tear to my arms and joints by having to push across it any given distance. I also demand that all inclines indoors and out meet with proper OSHA standards. This is only part one, I have several other phases and oh yes I could get it all done thanks to the laws.

It's sad, smokers and non-smokers got along peacefully for centuries and now some people behave like you'd be a terrorist with a bomb once you light a cig.

Sometimes, I wonder how far in the future I'll have to get "smoker" tattooed on my arm, probably the day before I'm forced to move to a seperate "smokers area" of the city with a big fence around it...

Okay, now, this is going to be a little difficult to follow, but:

Why aren't there white's only buses?

Smokers now (at least in my part of the world) make up about 35% of the population, and it is dropping rapidly (we have a public space smoking ban in place). Even at 50%, you only get half a vote. That means that 50% of the staff would be forced to work in smoke filled conditions, even if they don't smoke.

Occupational Health and Safety, anyone?

This isn't a question of an annoyance like the volume of music of if fat guys should wear speedos, this is a question of health. No matter how high and mighty you may feel, you don't have the right to slowly kill other people for your pleasure.

You want to smoke? Take it outside.

The amazing thing is once smoking isn't a cool thing you can do in a bar or at a blackjack table, it suddenly becomes less desirable and people quit. It will be interesting to see Nevada's smoking rate 5 years from now.

My Pet Peeve is that the government tells business owners of restaurants and bars that they can't do what they want in their own business.

I think if the bar wants to allow cigarettes or cigars, it should be able to, and will either benefit, or hurt it's business based on the customers it can draw.
I hate the fact that we are told, no you can't because some people don't smoke. There are plenty of non smoking establishments, it should be an option posted on the outside of the building.

With that said, I thought it sucked that the foundation room, a private club created for cigar smokers, has to change it rules for everyone else.

Then I want to say "Thanks" to the sponsors of the cigar party at Internext. It was outstanding and needs to be a tradition. My wife Mary and I had a great cigar that we shared, and an even better time!

The law was mainly passed by the northern rural communities that aren't affected by the ban. If the vote were for Las vegas only (a city, rather than state initiative) then the less restrictive measure would have passed. I was blaming all of the transplanted Californians who move here and then want this area to become mini-LA until i started looking at the voting numbers by county.

As a non-smoker, I enjoy being able to go into a restaurant and not have to smell like smoke when I leave. However, I think the owner of the business should be able to decide if he wants to create a non-smoking section or simply be able to hang a sign that says "We do not offer a non-smoking section" then patrons can make their choice of wanting or not wanting to do business with that establishment.

So kind of you to offer everyone a choice.
I never understand this argument. You have a choice to work in a place or not. You are not forced to do it, so if you don't like smoke, DON"T WORK IN A PLACE WHERE THERE IS SMOKING. No one was forced to do anything. It's not a fucking slave camp. You can leave anytime you want. People quit jobs for all sorts of reasons. Should people who work in nightclubs have the music turned down because that is certainly damaging the employee's hearing. I don't like the smell of shit, so I don't work in a sewage treatment plant. Should I go to work there and then ask them to stop processing shit because I don't like it?

It's not some casino's duty to give you a job.

And before someone chimes in with "second hand smoke is a health issue that is affecting others", that argument doesn't hold any weight either. People who have the flu are a health risk to others when they go into a public place. Should they be prohibited from being in public?

And for the record, I'm not a smoker. I avoid smoky places. Because I can.

Hollywood, basically, you are saying to non-smokers that you can't work in some places because you don't like smoke. Would you suggest to black people that they can't work in white businesses, or that women should stay home barefoot and pregnant too?

How about we tell cops they can't have guns anymore, and if they don't like the risk, don't be a cop. Perhaps we can get rid of all those pesky health a and safety people that try to keep construction workers from getting hurt. You don't like the risk? Don't be a construction worker!

Forcing non-smokers to limit job choices or forcing them to risk their lives by inhaling second hand smoke to be able to make a living isn't much of a choice.

As for this, well, first, smoking is OPTIONAL. It isn't a disease, it is a choice. Smokers can go outside and nobody dies (except themselves). People who have the flu should stay home. Second hand smoke kills, it has been shown. Whats your point?

i don't care if you smoke in your own house, but it's the people who love to light up in crowded areas outside or if you're eating on a terrace outside and the table next to you lights up. I have no problem telling them to put it out, but they are just retarded for not thinking that other people wouldn't mind the smell of diarrhea near food. If you want to smoke near me, I have no problem farting in your face, see if you like that smell.

Las Vegas Tavern Owners Concerned Over Smoking Ban
" The Peppermill on the Strip is one of those Las Vegas institutions. You can get it all there, a non-stop shop for smoking, drinking eating and gambling. It's one of many bars that are now worried about the bottom line.

Peggy Orth, Peppermill's general manager, said, "People smoke big old fat cigars here that they would never touch when they are at home. They do things here that they wouldn't ever do at home and that is what this town was built on and we are going to loose business."

Taverns fought the tough ban on smoking law and never thought voters would approve it. "Their placemats said it. Their cup holders said it. They see it. They live it. Their business will go under," Orth continued"

Growing up with a mother who smoked, I couldn't honestly care if they outlawed it anywhere, everywhere, and shut the tobacco farms down.

Smokers for the most part are some of the most selfish people in the world, and my mother topped that list.

it got to a point, where I had to nail a sign on the front door that said.."No smoking." But she wouldn't want to respect that, it was too difficult for her to just step outside on the porch and smoke.

Back when I was a kid, there was still smoking in hospital rooms. I awoke after surgery to find my mom sitting at the edge of my bed smoking a cigarette.

When my parents divorced and it was just me, my father and brother, everytime we went out to dinner there would be a non-smoking section, mainly it was the worst section of the restraunt. It would always be the closest to the kitchen doors, and the only thing that seperated us from the smoke would be a magical 3 foot tall piece of glass.

For many of my 40 years on this planet, smokers had the upper hand and were catered to at the expense of everyone elses health and happiness.

Smokers are also fairly disgusting people, with even more disgusting habits. Think about how many times you drive up to an intersection and see where smokers have emptied their ash trays out onto the street. Nothing better than to eat with a smoker who decides to put his cigarette out into his food, or drink, and I'm still eating.

Hell when I was a kid, smoking was allowed everywhere. People would smoke in the grocery stores and put their cigarettes out on the floor for fuck sake.

Now with that in mind. I do believe people have the right to do whatever the fuck they want to their bodies. It is your body, if you want to fill it with food, meth, fuck a knothole in a tree, as long as it doesn't affect others fine.

Give smokers a section to smoke in bars, restraunts, etc. Don't relegate them back to the kitchen like they did us, make it equitable, but force companies who decide to keep smoking to put in nice ventilation systems.

In Arlington, Texas, when they put in a tough smoking ban, I remember some places put smoking areas in enclosed rooms and everything was fine. Sure it was costly, but if it keeps both non-smoking and smoking customers happy, and keeps business coming in, then its a value added cost.

Oh yeah, another more recent thing here in Vegas. Everywhere you go there are fucking slot machines, there are laundromat / dry cleaners here that allow smoking in their buildings LOL

Imagine you want to take your clothes to be cleaned, and you have to deal with smokers just so they can make their fucking "slot customers" happy.

I can't believe that there are still places on this Earth where I have to enter e restaurant and the smokers and the non-smokers are seated together

Well, i smoke, but i don't think i've ever done anything in that list other than put cigarettes out in the streets. (old bad habit)

But I disagree with you in regards to not segregating people who smoke. I smoke, and i can't stand when people smoke in bars and such. It's just nasty

I think if you reread what I posted, you will see I favor segregating smokers...I said give them their own sections but make sure the companies who allow smoking have great ventilation systems.

Well said Craig T....
Thanks for coming to the Cigar gathering! We are going to make it a show and Las Vegas tradition for sure. Next show up coming in LA we will have a great spot to smoke there.....

As for those who want to tell me to put my cigar out... you can ask, but dont think its going to happen...

I think you really miss the point. It is about health and safety of workers and guests. The government tells private business all the time about stuff like this. From safety ropes to breathing masks to proper ventilation to required safety equipment, it is pretty standard. Second hand smoke has been shown to be dangerous, actually more dangerous than smoking (because those of us inhaling the second hand stuff don't get a filter, the smokers do). It is an issue of making businesses and workspaces safe for the workers and the members of the public who come to those establishments.

Trying to make it out as some afront to your personal rights is laughable, because you forget the rights of all of those people who don't smoke.

Tell you what, when we are in a restaurant together, you light up, and I will come piss on your table, because I should have the right to piss freely without the government or some dumb business guy telling me where I should piss.

Prostitution is NOT legal here. Hookers are just easy to find.

As long as the bars stay open 24/7....I'm good!

There are so many different kinds of people out , depending on what time you go out. It's very cool.

I would love to see it but doubt it very much. They tried doing that at a casino in Australia and the high rollers from China basically said "Fuck you, we're going back to Macau" ..so the Casino built a special smoking room for high rollers only.
