I am no longer holding doors open for people. I'm sick of it.

First of all how far does someone have to be for you to not have to hold the door for them? 50ft? 100ft?

Then, don't they have a responsibility to hurry up now that you are standing there holding it. Some fuckers take their own sweet time. what the fuck is that? I want to slam the guys head in the door jam five or six times when he finally gets there and watch him bleed from his eyes.

Then again, I hate when some asshole decides he will do his one good deed of the day and hold a door for me when I'm 300ft away. Now, it's cold out and I feel a responsibility to run to the door so the fucking boyscout of the year doesn't have to stand there too long. Now, I'm not in the best shape of my life so I break a sweat and I'm breathing heavy while I try to pour my fucking coffee. All because Dudley do-right decided he'd save me the monumental struggle of opening a door.

The worst is when you exit a door realizing that there was a person not far behind you...so you now have to double step it so when they come out, they see that you were way too far to have had to hold the door for them so you do not appear rude. Who the fuck am I fooling? The door is glass, they can see.

Of course you can get yourself in trouble holding doors too. You hold a door for a guy and then the next five people hurry up to get in and you are magically transformed into the goddamn doorman at the Hilton. I hate that shit. I was holding it for one fucking guy! Not the entire New York Jets, you fuckers! Now you have to try to make eye contact with someone to pass the door off like a goddamn baton in a relay race. Of course everyone is in on the joke so they all look down at their feet. i feel like putting on white gloves and holding my hand out.

I need this shit first thing in the morning? that's it, no more door holding for me!

I'll generally hold the door open for any lady that's less than 3-5 paces behind me.

Guys, within the same radius, get the benefit of me giving the door another shove open as I pass through it.

If I notice it's an older lady, or older gentleman with a disability, I'll often extend my radius to 5-8 paces, or so, and am, naturally, a bit more patient in those cases.

And that's about it.

I did this once and it backfired on me. I gave the door an extra push in an attempt to keep it open long enough for a guy behind me to catch it, well he missed the handle and the full force of the door hit him square in the forehead. I felt bad. I had a woman ask me if anyone got mad if i held the door open for them, this was as i was holding the door open for her. I replied so far no one has but the fist time someone gets angry because im being polite ill smash the door in their face. Her face dropped and she stopped talking ( Bitch )

that pretty much reflects my door holding etiquette. if you're anymore than 3 steps right behind me, i'm probably not holding the door for you unless you're a chick. then you only get about 4 or 5 steps of consideration. unless i notice a good reason to hold the door longer i'm not going to. i don't mind waiting a second more and holding the door for someone with an arm full of shit or anything like that.

I frequently hold the door for people - usually for ladies, the elderly, and folks with little kids or full hands. The only thing that irks me is when people walk right by without so much as a thanks, nod of the head or any other form of acknowledgement. Typically, these are the same people who take their sweet ass time crossing when you brake for them in parking lots or at crosswalks (I'm talking when you don't have to, but are just being a courteous driver).

I have noticed this passive aggressive shit is far more common among one group of people than others.

I always hold the door open when the distance of the next person is reasonable. The only thing I find irritating is when they walk through without a thank you. But, that doesn't stop me from doing it again the next time.

I also get irritated when I let someone out of a side street when there is lined up traffic and I don't get a wave for doing so.

Those are my tiny irritations when traveling throughout the day.

The only thing I find irritating is when they walk through without a thank you. But, that doesn't stop me from doing it again the next time. I also get irritated when I let someone out of a side street when there is lined up traffic and I don't get a wave for doing so.
