purpose for base64 encryption on links?
Is there any real purpose for using base64 encryption on ccbill gallery links? I dunno call me old fashioned but I like to be able to see my affiliate ID so I hate the encrypted links.
Am I missing somewhere though what is the reason as to why some sponsors use them?

Without looking at code I don't have; it's much easier to pass an array as base64; you can send it as a single argument, and it's more difficult for 'people who play with shit' to fuck with, since, unless they recognize it as base64, they won't be successful in playing around. It's certainly not for SEO.

Maybe to prevent surfers from guessing at other gallery urls...? Not sure.

The sponsor is Just Teen Site.. In the past they gave you the option to pick either or.. You could select to use them or not when using their gallery export tool. Typically I get my galleries from their e-mails and the links come not encrypted.
However I must have deleted or not gotten the weekly e-mail last week so I went to the site to use the gallery export tool. However it seems to only give you the base64 option now. So I'm wondering if there is some reason to use it? Anyway this is one of their galleries.. http://hosted.justteensite.com/galle...==/Missing+you

IMHO it's for trading scripts that can't correctly handle the complex URL's correctly (the ones with additional parameters site URL, affiliate code etc).
You can't use these links with out.php, e.g.: domain.com/out.php?url=http://refer.ccbill.com/cgi-bin/clicks.cgi?CA=900996-0006&PA=123456&HTML=http://galleries.adele-stevens.com/1/ - this won't work.

Yea but their decoded links are much simpler that that.. This is the above link decoded.. http://hosted.justteensite.com/galle...53/Missing+you the odd thing is it seems the trailing description means nothing to the url. you can delete it or change it to /missingyou or /missing you or even /go+fuck+yourself. Yet it still sends you to the right gallery. It's kind of a cool system, so I was just wondering if there was any reason to want to use the base64 encryption? I guess once you know what your ID looks like encrypted it's the same every time so it's no big deal one way or another. Only thing I could think it maybe it would help stop some of the affiliate ID swapping trojans.. then again they could probably just decode the links.

crockett, don't remember exactly but I think you can change a variable in the URL that outputs the hosted gals and it will do them unencoded. Even though there's no option on the form, it still accepts it. This is inside the affiliate area.
