There used to be a professional wax that I used back in the day. It was called White magic. try and find that will last you about 3 months with each application and you can wash in that three months with soapy water.

I ran a detail shop on the side back in the mid to early 90's. You'll need to be more specific in though hehe. I could probably write a book on it. There is a ton of stuff we did that people normally dont think of. Tricks to get the dirt out of the crevices in the interior, tricks to get the inner fenders looking like new again. There are just so many products out now, its hard to even narrow some stuff down. Our tire shine came from a wholesaler that came around in a box van, and we bought it in 5 gallon containers. Forget the name now, but its a blue liquid and smells like berries.

i have some scratches from a few years ago when in florida, hurricane katrina, branches flew across my hood. i got it down to be fine scratches but i want it to totally be gone. I have a blue porsche but the blue started looking purplish. I did teh mequiars 3 step process last weekend and that really made it nice and back to a true blue. i just want to get it looking like GLASS now. have that showroom shine. And remove the fine scratches and spider scratches..... If you know of a wax or special rag to buff etc... i woudl greatly appreciate it....

how about spraying PAM on the rims to repel brake dust? does that work or is it BS?

what about using an orbital polisher-vs-hand???

my main thing is getting teh exterior to be like glass again. my interior is spotless.

That new tech wax is pretty nice. It's easier to remove (if you don't put it on too thick), and seems to last much longer. I really like it.

Well you might consider going and having it buffed out. Shouldn't be super expensive. Under 200.00. You'll never get the results you want using orbital polisher or by hand that a talented person using a buffer will get. They may even need to wet sand some of the areas first. Don't be scared of by the sanding. Ive done it to brand new cars to reduce the amount of orange peel in the paint. As long as the clear coat isn't super thin it will be fine. You might want to stop by a high end detail shop, or a really good body shop and see what they recommend.

That's what I use - the Megiuars 3 step wax.

Stuff is awesome - even on my Jeep Wrangler.

Rotary with Meguiar's 95 is what worked brilliantly on my GM car yesterday. It was amazingly quick and knocked out ALL the swirls. It's a newer product but you can find it online.

Have you tried clay first? Its easier and will remove most if not all oxidation on the paint.

If you choose to rub the paint dont hold the polisher in the same spot for to long or you'll burn the paint. Its best to tape off the hard edges of the car as well to avoid burning through.

Meguirs makes a final detail that works well in between washes.

i was pretty impressed with it too. first time i used the meguiars 3 step. i always used their cleaner waxes, or the black gold one (cant think of the name). BUt their new wax, the NXT Tech is suppose to be even better. I purchased it and may just go with it but that tutrle wax ice product i just read and sounds so good when you read it.... i may have to pick up a bottle and do a test on my hood or something.

my car is like my life lol, im not into jewelry or suits or watches.... so i enjoy taking care of my car and keeping it in mint condition...

If you need to get rid of dust in and around the little hard to get spots on your dashboard use a non alcohol based Windex. I used to work in a body shop for a while and that used to savbe a hell of a lot of time.

hehe I don't detail my own, my man does that for me (one of his many talents). I just make him lunches while he's working I have picked up a lot of info from watching him, though. Definitely check out Autopia's forums. The people there are extremely helpful and lots actually own detailing business and are quick to answer any questions you have.

It goes much beyond a car wash. Comparing paint correction to a car wash is like comparing redesigning a site to adding a few images or links to a page.
