Do you make fun of veggies and PETA freaks?

do you feel the need, or do you actually, make fun of vegetarians and PETA people? i am guilty of this...I know mostly everyone pokes fun at the extreme PETA freaks but I also make fun of vegetarians a lot too...not because I hate them or feel strongly against them but just because it's easy and they get so damn upset and start talking about the poor little chickens that get eaten by big mean humans as if they are some wild chickens poached from their natural habitat

it also strikes me as odd that some people want to save polar bears so badly when they would probably eat you for dinner if they had the chance

i mean i love animals as much as everyone else and im all for stopping cruel treatment and experiments on animals and stuff but you gotta draw the line somewhere..

i have alot of vegan/vegetarian friends. i take pride in making vegetarian cracks at all times. they don't press me too hard about eating meat, but i know a couple girls in particular who are always trying to feed me tofu and shit and convince me it's as good as meat. i admit, they do a pretty good job of it sometimes, but i'll never admit it to their face. my answer to what do you think is always "it's good, but it would be awesome smothered in veal" or something to that extent. i once went on a carnivore diet where i tried to eat nothing but meat for a week, that didn't quite pan out. i also enjoy telling the veggies that eat eggs that they are eating little baby bird fetus and so forth. they're just easy targets, so why not eh?

I heard/saw that a few weeks back and my jaw is still near the floor, and now I think I NEED to give them some shit if I do ever come across a peta member.

This is always an interesting debate to me. I understand their argument and I get that we need to get off meat to a certain extent so that we can maintain the natural balance of the planet. I think PETA is both a great organization and a terrible one at the same time.

They are great... because they are the ones that got the animal rights thing going. If it weren't for them, I'm not sure if anyone would really even be thinking about humane treatment towards animals today. Prior to the 90s, it didn't really come across people's minds.

The bad part... PETA is known for doing extreme type protests to get attention. They start to lose respect by the public. And then other more diplomatic humane organizations like the HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) get kind of lost in the mix. When people think about "humane groups" they think PETA and not HSUS. HSUS has a more diplomatic approach for trying to get things changed. They requests talks with companies who produce chicken eggs for instance. And work with them on ways where they can turn from battery-caged eggs to cage free eggs. And it works. Burger King is now switching to cage-free eggs.

I just wish the public would get off this idea that because you want to see more humane practices take over, that you aren't some animal rights nut. That is totally PETA's fault, though. So they are both a blessing to animal rights, and a curse.

If humans had not consumed so much cooked meat, their brains would not have developed to allow them to think that eating cooked meat was bad.

They ate a diet VERY high in animal fats (whale blubber, fat from seals, etc), yet they had NO instances of heart disease, diabetes, obesity or any other degenerative diseases. Why? Becauese none of the meat they ate was processed. And they also ate a lot of fish too. Which is good for the heart.

And if anyone thinks this just pertains to fast food, they are wrong. Some of the meat you buy in supermarkets is almost as bad. You need to look closely at the labels to make sure antibiotics or hormones weren't added. You want to buy meat where the animals were fed its "natural diet."

Unfortunately there are loads of people who argue that "natural" or "free range" meat is no different and in some case worse for you than the stuff that is processed. so your point is not necessary 100% accurate.

I've been a vegetarian for years and years and I've found most people are cool about it. Actually I can't remember a situation where anybody gave me a hard time about it. But that could also be because I never attack anyone or bring it up to try to convince people to stop eating animals. If I go to a bar-b-que I'll compliment how good the food looks or whatever. Basically, I'm not a self righteous ass-hole about it. Also, I don't look like what most people think a vegetarian should look like since I lift weights about 5-6 days a week.

As for PETA, I understand why they do what they do but some of those people obviously get carried away. But you could say that about any cause.

People often make the argument of "50 years ago not as many people had heart attacks", "50 years ago not as many people had cancer"... and while I certainly agree that making changes in your life can give you better chances of not having heart attacks or cancer, I also think that making comparisons to 50 years ago is just plain silly. This isn't 50 years ago. This is 2009. People live until they are 5 million years old anymore.

So yeh, maybe 50 years ago the Eskimos, or any group of people, didn't have as many heart attacks as they do today... you have to ask yourself, how long did they live til?

How many of the posters in this very thread would even be alive at their current age if they were born 50 years earlier? I know I wouldn't have. PR_Tom may not have. Who else has had major medical complications?

Just because she has euthanized animals means she doesn't love them?

In today's society there is way more pets then have people looking after them. This takes time and money and as there is no bottomless pit to draw from and due to the fact that there are so many ignorant and irresponsible pet owners who neglect/abandon their animals is the reason why we will regretfully have to keep needlessly killing them.

Hope you understand that for instance when it comes to Chicken, hormones have been baned in them for longer than many board members have even been alive. So if a package of chicken says "hormone free" it is pure marketing BS and the brand right next to it that does not say it is also just as hormone free.

Just remember that when westerns first went to live with Eskimos they got sicked and died because the diet is so unbalanced. They have grown used to it over the years and can tolerate it but by our standards it is very unhealthy.

I agree. I have been a vegetarian for years also and I am concerned about what I eat and that's it. Some of my friends are curious about the benfits or disadvanatages ands we have had answered their questions.

My 17 year old daughter became a vegetarian of her own choice (she lives with her Mum and Step Dad). First he verbally attacked me about not eating meat, and then verbally attacked my daughter and ridicule vegetarians to the point where my daughter was in tears and could not eat her dinner. He then commented he would eat meat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if he could. That's the sort of ignoramus unbalanced and aggressive monotone that is uncalled for.


FYI: My son is not a vegetarian and I respect his choices and love him for who he is!

Why do some meat eaters such as him feel the need to attack their own step children for being Vegetarians? Accept the choices your friends, family and loved ones make. It's their choice what they eat, it's their body, and their consequence.

I think I confused some in this thread judging by that there three or four of you who responded to my second post in thread. I was hoping someone would reply to the other thing I said, though, which I found more important.

In any case, I apologize for not making myself more clear. My point in the second post I made, is that one should stay away from processed food if they can.

What I neglected to mention is that red meat isn't good for you in general. Saturated fats, found in foods such as red meat, is directely linked to the same diseases I mentioned earlier. That is why it's recommended to eat white meat instead. However, that doesn't mean one should start eating white meat day and night either. Limiting your animal fats intake is best. I personally try to keep it to no more than a serving 3x a week. I can get the same vitamins found in meat (protein, calcium, iron, zinc, and vitamins B12 and D) through other foods like soy milk, nuts, vegetables, etc.
