So we take care of my MIL. AS soon as my business got big enough last year, I bought my own home. I could not take, taking care of her anymore.

It was just sprung on me that hubby has to work... and I will be ALONE with my MIL all Thanksgiving Day. NO other family. The rest of her family hates her as well.. and always has other things to do. She is 89.

Some horrible things she's done in the past:

ON Halloween, I'd heard she'd never carved pumpkins before. I spent $50 on pumpkin carving kits, large pumpkins, markers, apple cider.. and I bought her a new pair of pajamas to spend the day with me decorating pumpkins... Hubby gets home from work.. and she tells him, "She came really close to abusing me today by MAKING me carve the pumpkins. SHe wouldn't let me stop and I think she's hurt my hand."

One time while wearing kitten heels (low high heels).... I walked out and showed them to her.. in a gorgeous dress... we were going to the symphony... and she said, "Will those hold you?" (referencing my weight).

Last Thanksgiving, while watching the Macy's Day Parade... hubby goes, "That's PSSuperstars Jr right there.." (of course using my real name... and he was referring to Meredith Viera.. who I look like a little bit).. and my MIL goes, "Meredith Viera's never been that fat."

When hubby stays over at my house for an extended period of time.. she'll do things like unplug her fridge on "accident".... so all her food goes bad.. and he feels bad for leaving her for longer than 8 hours... or he's caught her hiding food... so when he comes home it looks like he left her with nothing.. so he'll feel bad.

WHen he and I are fighting, she tells me no one will ever love me because I don't have Christ in my heart.

OH and in general, lol some stupid shit:

She thinks that the storms are the color that they are on the TV screen... so like, say during Hurricane Ike.. she kept asking at 3am as our beams are flexing in and out, "IS it red outside? Why isnt it red outside?"... She also did this with Hurricane Rita... and every other huge thunderstorm that comes thru.

I have to dry her spaghetti noodles off with a papertowel.. because she says that I don't cook them right.. and if there's water on the plate at all.. I messed up.

She refuses to put her teeth in... so anytime I cook.. things have to be soft and mushy.. and if it's not.. we get a HUGE guilt trip.

She is an EEEEEEEEEEEVIL old lady. Hubby won't put her in a home because he knows she won't be able to make friends... and I guess he has too much of a heart to let her go. Dunno.

Just do your best to avoid alone time with her and ignore the rest. Does your husband ever stick up for you and tell her to lay off? Maybe thats the issue you have to address first.

Oh and I empathize greatly with how you feel. When I was growing up my great-grandmother lived with us and she was a nasty piece of work.. When I was 12, she called me a slut and a whore for sleeping over at my best friend's house, simply because she had an older brother (who we both hated because he was a dick anyways). I learned that the best way to fight fire is with fire, and sometimes, it can make these people realize they CAN'T treat you that way.. maybe it will even make her respect you a little bit because of everyone, you stood up to her.

Anyways,

I'm buying Wall-e... Elf... A pack of cards.. and a jigsaw puzzle to make the day go by easier.

I can't stomach having her spend Thursday all alone until hubby gets off work... Holidays are big to me and my family... and as much as I hate her... No one deserves to be alone.

So tomorrow when I'm buying the replacement fridge.. lol since mine shorted out and won't be repaired til next Monday... I will swing by Target or somewhere and get some old lady entertainment...

Since we're having the fridge issue, she and I will also go for a drive to the really swank Honey Baked Ham downtown... and pick up dinner together. Getting her out of the house will be good.. and I can put the top down if it's warm enough LMAO.. she'll love that ;)

And it's not a maturity issue.. if I had a maturity issue, I'd whine and stomp my feet until she was put in a home... and hold my breath and say the marriage was OVER until he put her into one... But I understand that she would be MISERABLE in assisted living.. and probably is too old for assisted living.. and she'd be required to go to a nursing home..

She is a cunt. She is mean. Despite her being a stay at home mom, all 4 children are BORKED in the head. Hubby included... with serious detachment issues. None of them have a "motherly" bond.. because she has no idea what motherly is... NONE. It doesn't live in her. She associates all emotions and caringness with getting a reward...

She showed up to my husband's 3rd grade birthday party with cupcakes for the class.... then when he didn't BRING ANY HOME... he got grounded for not thinking of her... Just weird mental mind games from this woman...

And financially, I don't want her money. When she goes, it can all go to the other siblings as far as I'm concerned... even though we did take care of her... I'd rather reap the karma of not throwing her crotchedy ass in a home.. than the money.

Now, if she's still living in 2-3 years.. when I'm ready to be traveling the world... moving...

I may have to rethink motives of marriage and taking care of her.. but as of right now.. as long as the mean bitch is comfortable.. it's okay. Literally, if we put her in a home... they'd probably want her kicked out... that's how unfriendly she is. So this is best for her final years...

And dude she has a SET UP.. we have dual TVs.. she's in two bedrooms hooked up with a hollywood bath in between... both have Pioneer Elite plasmas on the wall... and she has her Bose headsets hooked up to each.. for when it's a movie or something she doesn't want to blast too loud to hear... She's got an auto recliner... and auto sofa/recliner.... freaking chenille pajamas... and we give her whatever she wants for dinner.... Most old people are just fed whatever the family is cooking or whatever the family is doing...

MOST old people are just forgotten in a home somewhere... but we take her thoughts into consideration..

Oh, and... for Christmas.. I set up her living room as this ginormous aerogrow room (seriously, aerogrow has to think we're pot growers for ordering 3 of these bastards at once)... and I arrange them all.. planted them... and now she has these plants to tend with...

As much as I hate her.. as much as she is a cunt... as much as I rant... as shitty as she makes our life... I'm not just throwing her in a home and forgetting about her... Maybe on her deathbed she'll see that people actually care for her.. for her.... not for some ulterior motive.

If your husband didn't have a bond with his mother, he wouldn't be taking care of her in the first place. If his relationship was that bad, he'd leave her to herself and county services would take care of her. If she was such a bad mother, he wouldn't have a second thought about helping her out, he just would have nothing to do with her.

And if some little old lady makes your life shitty, maybe it isn't that great to begin with?

Not true. We stepped in after she broke her hip on the OTHER siblings watch. She hadn't called my husband in 2.5 years. She broke her hip and demanded he be called... because they were going to put her into a home... then she guilted us into taking care of her... Then we found out a SLEW of estate issues... where they'd completely fucked her estate.. and just wanted her in a home to die.

Which ya know.. maybe he and I are bleeding hearts... or maybe it's just a fuck you to the other siblings to keep her in a lifestyle that keeps her living...

The minute you put these people into those homes... it's a death sentence.

Now the way I see it, as a human being in my head.... She had her chance at life... put her in the home and to hell with her...

But the bleeding heart, girl side of me thinks that's not fair.

Trust me, it's an ongoing battle... and everyone EVENTUALLY will have to face it to some degree...

It's just a LOT easier to face when the older person is actually nice.... or at least invested emotionally....

And I'm young... and most couples shouldn't be up each other's ass 24/7 anyways.. well, unless lube is involved.. ;) And it's not a maturity issue.. if I had a maturity issue, I'd whine and stomp my feet until she was put in a home... and hold my breath and say the marriage was OVER until he put her into one... But I understand that she would be MISERABLE in assisted living.. and probably is too old for assisted living.. and she'd be required to go to a nursing home.. She is a cunt. She is mean. Despite her being a stay at home mom, all 4 children are BORKED in the head. Hubby included... with serious detachment issues. None of them have a "motherly" bond.. because she has no idea what motherly is... NONE. It doesn't live in her. She associates all emotions and caringness with getting a reward... She showed up to my husband's 3rd grade birthday party with cupcakes for the class.... then when he didn't BRING ANY HOME... he got grounded for not thinking of her... Just weird mental mind games from this woman... And financially, I don't want her money. When she goes, it can all go to the other siblings as far as I'm concerned... even though we did take care of her... I'd rather reap the karma of not throwing her crotchedy ass in a home.. than the money. Now, if she's still living in 2-3 years.. when I'm ready to be traveling the world... moving... I may have to rethink motives of marriage and taking care of her.. but as of right now.. as long as the mean bitch is comfortable.. it's okay. Literally, if we put her in a home... they'd probably want her kicked out... that's how unfriendly she is. So this is best for her final years... And dude she has a SET UP.. we have dual TVs.. she's in two bedrooms hooked up with a hollywood bath in between... both have Pioneer Elite plasmas on the wall... and she has her Bose headsets hooked up to each.. for when it's a movie or something she doesn't want to blast too loud to hear... She's got an auto recliner... and auto sofa/recliner.... freaking chenille pajamas... and we give her whatever she wants for dinner.... Most old people are just fed whatever the family is cooking or whatever the family is doing... MOST old people are just forgotten in a home somewhere... but we take her thoughts into consideration.. Oh, and... for Christmas.. I set up her living room as this ginormous aerogrow room (seriously, aerogrow has to think we're pot growers for ordering 3 of these bastards at once)... and I arrange them all.. planted them... and now she has these plants to tend with... As much as I hate her.. as much as she is a cunt... as much as I rant... as shitty as she makes our life... I'm not just throwing her in a home and forgetting about her... If his relationship was that bad, he'd leave her to herself and county services would take care of her. If she was such a bad mother, he wouldn't have a second thought about helping her out, he just would have nothing to do with her. And if some little old lady makes your life shitty, maybe it isn't that great to begin with? Good luck with your problems. It can be embarrassing in retrospect with things like this. So I feel ya.
