How do you create this effect, a type of high contrast, saturation and detail effect ...
Looking at this pic I can see the Photog used a 3 light set up along with natural available light. How ever it's the Treatment of the Pic that I'd like to recreate ... anyone done this before? Anyone know have any idea on how to recreate this effect ?

Looking at this image, it looks like there is a soft box to camera left, to light the back line and back light the front line. A key Dish light above the camera and lastly a direct light at camera left to back light the whole group.

the lighting here looks to resemble the image above.

Looks like HDR with an overlay.

Local guy here does a lot of work that's pretty similar...

it's the trendy thing in photography today - it might be HDR but probably not, if you search on ModelMayhem's forum there are several threads discussing different ways to achieve it.

or you can go the plugin route - Topaz Adjust plugin can mimic this look.

Yes you have to shoot it that way....thats not ps
Maybe a little desat afterwards and some USM for the sharpening.

by the look sof it and the same band in some of the same pics on that portfolio, id say the pics from the OP are the from the same guy that you provided...

This is not Hdr or any sort of Photoshop plug in or "David Hill" processing technique this in camera and lighting.

Vid if you want to know how to do it I can tell you to do it.

i don't think Dave Hills uses HDR though, I think it's all lighting.

his key lighting is usally done with a ringlash. However he is a dodger and burner in Photoshop.

He shoots and then spends a lot of time in processing.

His look is great and captured a great time in Digital photography . Personnaly i rather look at David LaChappelles stuff for pure enjoyment.

this is all about strobe techniques and less ps

Lighting sure, but there is A LOT of after working... watch a couple of his behind the scenes clips...

He definitely spends a bit of time in PS or whatever he uses...

more photographers should utilize improving their shots in PS... im not saying tweak it absurdly... but either kick it up a notch or find a niche like david hill..

raw shots are cool and all... and I respect photographers that say "I never touch my photos. Straight shoot and distribute." I mean thats good if you can do that. But you should always utilize the advantage...

Amazing work nonetheless..

I'd be willing to be those are two image overlays. The background image shot in HDR, and the foreground with strobes. You cut the foreground and blend it into the background. So you get the perfect lighting in the foreground, but still get the classic depth with the HDR background.

It's both, and lots LOTS of photoshop. Most of his "photos" are sets of 10 (give or take) photos, with HDR and lighting techniques used.

Example: http://www.davehillphoto.com very first photo (the black car, looks like 50 cent and some other guys).

Those guys probably weren't even in the shot with that car, they're prob spliced into that particular car. The tires on that car were probably not on that car, and it probably wasn't that low. The ground is for sure spliced in. The night sky, spliced in. That industrial stuff in the right background, spliced in. The three lights, spliced in. The garage / overhang, spliced in.

God knows how much more has been spliced in.

His stuff is all photoshop.

I 'm catching the gist of HDR ... Basicly (simplified) bracket photography (3 images are taken, one under exposed, one properly exposed, one overexposed, all by 1 stop) ... you can acheive this also by shoot each element in your picture seperately, which is what i think D. Hill does. (proportions are screwy in his images)

I found the HDR setting in PS, under automate. Very cool

That Topaz Adjust looks pretty easy to use too. Took a look at the Tutorials ...
