Anyone else think Lesnar made an ass of himself tonight?

I dunno if he's going for the WWF bad guy persona here to drum ratings or what, but I think he made a complete fucking ass of himself tonight. Hear the fucking boos? Seems like the crowd tended to agree. He really came across as a fucking prick tonight. Talking shitloads of smack, shit talking a major event sponsor, yipping about how he's gonna go home and get on top of his wife. I mean ya, be happy you won, but shit, the guy just made a huge fucking ass of himself, and I'm sure just made himself in the eyes of most fans a hated target. I guess you can be a huge fucking douchebag when there's no one in the competition set to beat you. Either way, I was getting into following his rising career until he pulled this shit. Now I can't wait to see someone tear him apart. Guess it'll go well for those ratings. I wonder if he'll catch any shit over slamming Bud Light?..

My guess is that what he did was carefully calculated. They need the fighters to have some entertainment value. Brock being a heel will definitely increase buy rates. Like you said...you can't wait to someone tear him apart. The "bad guys" always put asses in the seats.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. It's all for the ratings, but when he started shit talking major sponsors and spouting off the "they pay him no money, so fuck em" attitude, I started to wonder if maybe he is just that much of a fucking douchenozzle. I was starting to like the guy because he shed the fucking WWF background and was taking his fighting serious. Now he's just bringing back to whole fucking ro wrestling spectacle of shit...

That being said I did fucking love, and I mean absolutely love, seeing Bisping get knocked the fuck out! So ya, I can see there being a day Im a very happy fight fan when Lesnar gets fed a good hard loss...

When he did that I was thinking "Product placement" He effectively got us to pay attention to the sponsors, and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if that wasn't done with the sponsors prior involvement and stamp of approval. Remember, whomever the heel doesn't like becomes the babyface.

Everybody hates Brock, so therefore he shit talks the sponsors, they get a big mention AND they instantly become the "good guys"

By the way...I love pro wrestling, I did it for a long time and loved the art of working the crowd. I think Brock bringing that to the game is something that will pay off big money for UFC. It looks to me that he is combining his very real skills as a wrestler with the skills he learned in WWE of entertainment.

Nothing wrong with that. Ali did the same thing in boxing. I think it's gonna get a lot more eyes on UFC if they can promote him correctly.

In pro wrestling the biggest money is always the heel champ having the babyface chase him for the title. With Brock...damn near every challenger would be a good guy and have the people wanting to see him beat Brock's ass and take the title.

I think Brock did what was best for the UFC in the long run. Mir talked way more shit than Mir before their 2 fights, he shut Mir's mouth for once.

I love the fact that Lesnar took all the shit that Mir was talking to him and shoved it down his throat. Did you watch the UFC 100 preview on Spike Thursday night? One of Mir's training partners was pretending he was Lesnar and doing the tired "he's just a pro wrestler" gimmick, and then Mir hit him once and the training partner hit the mat, looked up, and said "it's not WWE". Frank Mir talked incredible amounts of shit to Lesnar, and Lesnar came in there and made him eat his words.

Unfortunately, there are two main groups of fans that dominate MMA right now. There are the unknowledgeable fans that you hear booing whenever a fight goes to the ground because they don't understand jiu jitsu, and then there are the douche bags that populate MMA forums and call themselves "MMA purists" that hate to see a superior athlete come in and rocket to the top of the sport with only a few years training. Neither group appears to like Brock, and if the UFC is going to hit the next level of popularity they need for people to be able to emotionally invest in the fighters like pro wrestling fans do with the "faces" and "heels". Brock is just a big, tough mother fucker that can say whatever he wants because no one can stop him, and he is going to seriously increase PPV buy rates with that attitude...

That pretty much sums it up. I know they got my money for Lesnar fights in the future. There's no questions he's a big brute motherfucker with game to back his size. I wanted him to win the fight, but in the end I wound up wishing Mir would have just done him in.

I and everyone I had over for the PPV totally would agree with your point. He was a no class clown and jerk, if it was intentional then it was still not class.

That's how I'm looking at it. I'm thinking at this point that really they have no one who can beat him, and maybe the only way to keep it interesting for people to watch him fight, is to make him so hated that people tune in, just in hopes that he does get his ass kicked. I dunno. Still low brow in my books...

I don't know. I can understand the argument that it was calculated but this has never been the brand that the UFC has put forward. Unless they have decided to suddenly change directions, I think this was all Lesnar's own doing, possibly with coaching from his old buddies from the WWE so he can create his own brand image.

I don't think the UFC is suddenly doing an about face brand wise as they have been experiencing amazing growth using their current tactics which have mostly been to downlplay such over the top theatrics.

So I think this was Lesnar going off on his own to build his own image. I doubt the UFC had anything to do with this. But they are powerless to say much as this guy is going to be a huge PPV draw.

That's called "going into business for yourself" and Lesnar and Dana White are way too smart for that.

I look at it as a very nice piece of work that is going to make the UFC a ton of money going forward. I see nothing wrong with good promotion. They are a sport...but don't forget it's also entertainment. And to step up to the next level they need to bring in casual fans that wouldn't necessarily watch an MMA fight just for the purity of the sport. But give 'em a bad guy to root against and a hero to cheer for and you just emotionally invested them and created a buzz.

I dont like him and he is a dick, but who is really gonna beat him and shut his mouth??? Fador?? Its not gonna happen!! Maybe 3 years later and what? Brock is gonna suck??? Nope, he will be that much more of an animal.

He held Mir in positions of control that are easy to get out of, but his power and strength let Brock do what he wanted when he wanted.

Love him or hate him, he isn't going anywhere!!!

I totally agree with the argument. Nothing gets people more stirred up then when they root against a villian. My only sticking point would be whether or not this was internally decided by the brass at UFC to change directions. They did just sign Kimbo Slice to the TV show so it is possible they are trending towards a model based on characters as opposed to just athletes. Time will tell.

Or (put on the tin foil hats) is Vince McMahon looking to start his own MMA league and wants Lesnar to become as big as possible then switch to his new league for instant publicity. Possibly in return for an ownership stake?

BTW, the above was just wild speculation for fun. Vince did try to start a football league once though
