Ex drinkers.. do you ever miss being a drunk? AA Thread

You know that you're completely fucking WRONG and that's a dangerous thought.. right

Well... I haven't been a drunk, not in years, but I do get wasted about once a month.. sometimes less.. but when I do, I cause very serious problems every time

So I don't think I will do it once a month any more

But I miss being wasted out of my mind, smoking kools .. just sitting glassy eyed with loud music and guns everywhere making years go by like weeks ..
And I feel like, man, that's fucked.. you know you lost everything you ever had to being a drunk.. . and went to hell on earth with that shit ..

I almost killed and I almost died and I did some of the dumbest most ridiculous shit I've ever heard of anyone doing. It's a fucking miracle me not being in the ground or in prison.

It's a bitch. When you see someone holding a rum&coke on television... it looks like a naked womans asshole or pussy... Just start growling and foaming at the mouth and your cock starts swelling.... then you just want to blast the a/c and have a nice drink..

Of course for me it leads to more. I almost died of everclear earlier this month.

Look if you're an ex drunk or struggling with it, man it's not what it looks like, it lies to us... it is medicine and it is poison..

It's like a cold cure that causes aids
Don't let it get ahold of you
I hopefully have learned once and for all
It'd be interesting hearing some experiences you guys have had with alcohol

If you're an ex drunk.. do you have a not one drop rule, or were you like me and quitting was easier if you still did it a few times a year?

Wow... it has a grip on people more than I could imagine. My brother's taking some alcohol medication that makes him violently ill if he drinks. He doesn't get violent, or necessarily crazy... but he does do some stupid shit, and he doesn't exactly stop on his own until you take the drink out of his hand. I found out the other day that he quit his medication and is drinking again... I didn't know what to say when I've heard about his relapse... especially when I have friends who aren't exactly supporting his sobriety...

After 9 years I don't miss it any more but I did for a long time after I quit. I have learned to enjoy the sensation of being the most coherent and in control person in the room or the club. It is a nice feeling.

No, I do not miss being drunk in any way shape or form.

I do however miss a good German Weiss, or a Chezc (sp) Pilsner, even a Sam Adams draft.

Also miss a good wine, and an after dinner cordial.

But no I do not miss being drunk at all.

Almost 13 years now

Yeah I definitely miss it. Not the perpetual hangover and the wondering how I ended up wherever I did the night before, but that warm feeling in my stomach after a couple bottles of wine was nice.

I couldn't control how much I drank at all and it really fucked up my life so I decided to stop being a pussy about it and quit (not as easy as it sounds). I still have a beer every few months but I don't ever want to lose control like I have in the past.

Yeah I don't think AA meetings make alot of sense for someone like me
Not drinking is easy
It's something you make the choice to do
You wake up and you either drink or you don't
That simple

A few times every now and then is not quit. Not a drop ever is my rule. I've been there man. It never goes away, but it does get easier over time.

Well.
When I came out of being a drunk,,
I at first had to drink a couple of beers a day (TWO) so that I didn't shake myself half to death.

Also,
I thought I'd be more likely to quit if I still did it some times.. and it worked.. the only problem is I've still done it, sometimes..

But I've come a long long way.. I was a hardcore drunk, the type to stay awake 40-50 hours at a time wasted out of my mind, pass out for 12-15 hours but wake up to piss and have a good hard slug of rum before falling back onto the bed or floor
I was even drunk as I had slept
It was hell
It was my pleasurable nightmare
I fucked the most beautiful woman I've ever fucked and I fucked the least attractive woman I've ever fucked. All in one year.

In actuality, nothing changed, youre just justifying having a few drinks.

you either drink or you do not.

you were already an alcoholic, sounds like you were as bad off as I was.

I laid in bed shaking with DTs for 9 days,... but I quit and havent touched it since. You sound like youre reaching the point I hit.... although I did it without AA, cant stand religious aspects of things like that.

I'm on the not-one-drop rule - 'cos "one drop" leads to a handle of Jack.

... and a coupla dozen beers. And that ends badly for me.

I tried doing it your way at one point - where I would give myself a "cheat" night or weekend. Not such a great idea, as it turned out. 'Cos who likes waking up having fucked everything up?

Seventeen years and counting on the Diet Coke, coffee, and water weekend binge plan.

If you wanna talk, I suspect you'd have a lot of people willing to listen. Myself included.

Well. DTs are bad. I'll never forget the ceiling fan buzzing and some things like that. I didn't see anything that wasn't there like I've heard of..

Alot changed, not being drunk 24 of 24 hours is a big change.. I went from being drunk 720 hours every month to being drunk maybe 10 out of every month... and some months I haven't done it at all..

I agree that it's still a problem but.. nothing changed??

I created this thread so that I can hear some stories, see what people have to say. I'm not much on talking to people or having friends around.. but I appreciate your offer, very much. Alot. It's good of you.

Not really, it goes away after a couple years. But a good rock song and cold beer does sound good on a hot day, I will admit. I never did a couple beers though, for what, to put myself down for a nap? To drink is to run with it, for me anyhow. I don't do anything in moderation. If you're going to do something, do it right.

Now I live in the deep south where people medicate with alcohol daily to numb their miserable lives. And when I see them buzzing it is a harsh reminder of the sickness that it can be and how it keeps you in a bubble, accepting the terrible reality around you that you actually have the power to change. But you have to want it, and you have to take control. Alcohol will keep you from doing those things. It sounds crazy to someone who drinks all the time, like I myself used to. Or even trashing yourself occasionally. But in essence is it like surrendering yourself to a power that is not your own. Giving up control of yourself. Sure, it can be fun. But it is not real, because in the morning you will be your asshole self again. And hangovers suck, really they do.

And that is my opinion. I encourage everyone who drinks and scoffs at what I said to continue drinking, drink daily, and drink hard. Besides, you will never achieve this sort of wisdom unless you push the limits with alcohol hit rock bottom, and pick yourself up. However, some people do manage to function and ride it like a wave. To those who are able to do so and not fuck up everyone's lives around them, I congratulate.

cheers

Don't really have anything to say, cause its each to their own and stuff, and NO-ONE is responsible for yourself, other than you...

But... Due (in part) to my username, I felt compelled to post in this thread...

Good luck, with whatever choices you make

My buddy was an alcoholic. I remember he quit after his first DUI then started drinking every once in awhile a few months after he quit. When he drank he got fucking crazy and went overboard.

Well, he paid the price. One night he passed out behind the wheel with his foot on the accelerator, scraped 6 parked cars on the side of the street, went off the road and right into someone's living room.

He's got the "not a single drop" rule going for him now.

Me? I'm a full blown alcoholic on the weekends.
