No offense but posting an apology on a forum has to be viewed as disingenuous. And I didn't read in that thread that he even mentioned your name (until you popped in/started your own thread) or even asked you for a GFY public apology. Doing anything like this whether it is confronting someone, breaking up with someone, making amends for something... over emails or texts or forums or messengers or social networking sites is just so fucking lame and pathetic. It is for cowards.

If you are going to do something like this do it right. Do it like a MAN would do it. Reach down between your legs, grab your balls, and handle your business. Personally. In a one on one phone call or in person. Don't use a mediator because your uncomfortable with what USED to be normal (before technology gave us chicken shit ways to do things) human interaction and conflict resolution .

I hope things work out for you in the end. This whole drama that seems was brought to the boards and names named by you was nobodies business but you and a one time friend. Personally I can not fathom why you spill your whole life story here all the time anyways. Just seems to fuel the trolls.

in my experience, a genuine apology can be delivered via any medium and the request was made in public via this medium.

the components of an apology that make it sincere are it has to be direct, the way the apology is issued, i.e. no *IF i did something, i apologize* but a * i did this and i apologize for it*

and the other crucial part is an attempt to make whole.

it appears to me the op did that.

1. I suppose it depends on your age. If you are 27 and younger then I suppose non-personal social media (to include email, messengers, phone text, chat, forums, networking sites, etc.) is to ingrained in you to make or use confrontational issues private, personal, and 1 on 1(live via face to face or at the least by phone NOT text). I am not saying these things do not have their place. But when it comes to anything bearing emotion (apologizing, breaking up, working out differences or trying to make compromises, hurting someone, or anything that involves a close personal relationship) these forms of media do nothing but cushion the user from having to deal with an uncomfortable situation and depersonalizes the natural process of human interaction.

I skimmed the thread and saw no where that he demanded an apology in public or on this site. He asked others opinions without naming names.

I am not taking sides but I lean more towards Scott. We have met a few times and he is a good guy. The other one I do not know. I just think that something bad that happened between longtime friends was aired where it shouldn't have been. I am willing to bet it has caused more damage, generated more hurt feelings than having talked face to face would have done. Another side effect of these depersonalized forms of social media sometimes allows people to be more hateful and callous than they normally would be. Even if one side was not willing to listen then the other person tried, doing the right thing while not throwing dirty laundry in the laps of people with whom it does not concern.

i completely agree with you on a personal level and for me, i need to make apologies face to face. but people who can and do make genuine face to face apologies are truly rare, since being difficult for most to offer, i've relaxed my expectations about them for others.

i learned a lot about making amends in the past and had a mentor who guided me through the process who had some stringent rules on clearing things up. the main thing he taught me was that apologies are primarily for the apologizer. hearing the genuine apology is what is supposed to help the person harmed and then restitution makes them both whole again.

Sleazy calling me dumb... Go read some of my posts where I talk in detail about science, physics, quantum theory, and astronomy. The day I can be said to be "not that smart" is the day I die and even then I would still be smarter than some around here.

I apologize, maybe I missed something, I was sure no one knew any details till you posted them. If you didn't then I was wrong in that aspect only.

Thumps up for the apology... but I also see by your fuller explanations of JMans finances that you are seeking your own cathartic release, which seems to diminish the apology somewhat.

I too owe someone a true apology, and I am still trying to figure out how to do it so that it can only be received as sincere and real
