![]() Happy New Year from Asian Diva Girls!!! We just finished eating a traditional Japanese New Year's meal (called Osechi) - my wife made everything from scratch (it took her most of yesterday to prepare): ![]() The three boxes stack up to form a pattern, and are then taken down when it is time to eat: ![]() The far left tray is special rice with beans, and sticky sweet potatoes, the middle tray is food from the land, and the third tray is mostly seafood: ![]() Of course, we have to have sake (rice wine) with it - and a little champagne too (lol): ![]() Ready to eat...nom, nom, nom... ![]() Itadaki-masu! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I wish everyone a happy and prosperous 2010!!! Presentation is an important element in Japanese cuisine...and yes, it is yummy!
Nani? Thanks, Happy New Year to you too... Quote:
Technically it isn't Champagne, since it would have to have been produced in the Champagne region of France to be called Champagne, however Gloria Ferrer's Sonoma Brut comes from the region where some of the best California white wines (Chardonnay, etc) are produced. Oh, and it received a 90 from the Wine Spectator (wine review) magazine: Quote:

ADG i found a new Red that have made my top 1 of everyday wines.
I wouldn’t put this as the first bottle on the table for a GOOD dinner but you should try it out. Overall Argentina is just producing fantastic wines right now! 2008 Dos Fincas Cabernet Sauvignon - Malbac ![]() |

Most Japanese food is fairly healthy. One of the reasons that Japan leads the world in life expectancy.

While I tend to gravitate towards Napa and Sonoma (Northern California wines), since the vineyards are only about an hour drive from me, I do enjoy getting introduced to wines from other areas. One of my college roommates is now a Professor in England, and whenever I visit him, after hitting his fairly extensive stash of French wine (he actually rents space in a warehouse to store his wine), we take the Eurostar over to France, and he takes me to some great boutique wineries. My favorite wines are invariably Cabernets, however I have been enjoying some great old vines Zinfandels lately. Since my wife's tastes are more towards Chardonnay, I drink a fair amount of that as well. We'll, we are getting ready for sushi tonight (more pix coming), and are already enjoying some Ferrari-Carano Chardonnay (while watching Oregon tie up Ohio State at the Rose Bowl)... Life is good!!! Baked stuffed clams, some call it clams casino...my dads a butcher so knows a lot about cooking food. You can either keep the clam whole or dice it up (bledder for a couple seconds), basically he takes bread crumbs and mixes some wine, clam juice (when you open the clams), pepperica, parcely, and some other spices...stires it in a pan over the stove with a litte olive oil so it browns a little. Then he stuffs the clams...and bakes them in the over....and they smell and taste incredible. You can also squirt some lemon over all of them. My wife brings a pad and pen everytime we go over his house to write down receipes. Still trying to figure out my Grandmas pizza receipe...unfortunately it might have died with her.
