Apparently Obama doesn't want us watching TV

I saw the video on the news and couldn't believe it, he actually said that? Turn off the TV, Stop watching the news? I guess having voters educated as to whats going on during his presidency is hurting his agenda. I got the following off Fox

February 3, 2010 | 3:44 PM ET
Obama Tells Dems: Turn off CNN, Turn off FoxAt today's question and answer session between President Obama and his former Democratic colleagues in the Senate, members got a bit of unexpected TV-viewing advice from the Commander in Chief: stop watching politics on TV.

Perhaps he?d prefer they tune into WhiteHouse.gov?

The president?s advice came in answer to a question from Sen. Mike Bennet, D-CO, who is facing a difficult re-election fight back home and wanted to know what Democrats and Republicans can do "to fix this institution so that our democracy can actually withstand the test that we're facing right now."

"You know what I think would actually make a difference, Michael? I think if everybody here -- excuse all the members of the press who are here -- if everybody here turned off your CNN, your Fox, your blogs," Obama said, before being interrupted by Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-CA, who piped up, "And MSNBC!"

Obama, appropriately reminded of the network with shows more friendly to liberals, continued, "Just turn off the TV -- MSNBC, blogs -- and just go talk to folks out there, instead of being in this echo chamber where the topic is constantly politics. ... It is much more difficult to get a conversation focused on how are we going to help people than a conversation about how is this going to help or hurt somebody politically."

Democrats are worried, on the heels of the upset race in Massachusetts and in the face of increasing anger expressed by their constituents, particularly in red and purple states like Bennet's. They gathered in Washington at the Newseum for an all-day issues conference that included strategy sessions with White House senior advisor David Axelrod and Democratic strategist Paul Begala.

And among a number of candid admissions from the President Wednesday, which evoked an applause, this: "We've got to, I think, get out of the echo chamber. That was a mistake that I think I made last year - was just not getting out of here enough. And it's helpful when you do."

Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-NV, who is not much of a fan of political TV (he's actually a movie buff) and is, himself, perhaps the most endangered Democrat in this 2010 midterm election, apparently liked what he heard. Smiling broadly out at his Democratic Caucus, Reid joked, "Mr. President, you've told me -- suggested -- don't pay any attention to the blogs, don't listen to talk radio, don't watch cable TV. And I follow that advice pretty good."

But Democrats aren't without TV options of which Obama would likely approve. Remember, the President revealed awhile back, he's a huge fan of ESPN and the HBO's series Entourage. Hmmm -- contact sports and, uh, well, sex ---- perhaps senators should just turn off the TV.

can you let me know when you come to the conclusion that congress is so corrupt on both sides of the aisle that it doesnt matter what a democrat or republican president does..

congress spends all its time trying to logjam any decision that could help make things better while behind the scenes they are lining their pockets with backroom deals...

i wish people would wake up and see what is really going on and where the true problem lies..

I'm with you, I don't like what either party is doing, the GOP is not doing anything to help, but at least they are stoping what won't work. Obama has spent a shit load of money and is increasing the size of the government by over a million employee's, how the fuck can the tax payers afford that, they can't. I didn't like what bush did either, which other than the wars, was nothing.
I think it's funny now that the the news for most people is coming from Fox news, that the president is feeling the heat, I just want to see if he listens and does what Clinton did and start working with the GOP, or ignores it and does what he thinks is right for the american people, increase the government, increase spending and bow to leaders of other countries.
By the end of the year, the GOP will probably be in charge of the house and the senate, unless dems change, which has worked for our country in the past. A balance of bullshit

Man what are you smoking!?

Telling people to turn off the TV and go out and talk to people. Sure as shit doesn't sound like he is telling us to not watch TV. Both parties need to pull their heads out of their asses, that is the truth. Spreading shit when their is no shit to spread, that is just part of the problem not the solution. Honestly, this argument is moot in the end, you already have your preconceived notions, so it isn't like I am going to change your mind.

This is the second time I have seen you slinging a pile of BS.

Do you think Obama is in touch with the people?
Do you think Harry Reid is in touch with the people?
Do you think Pelosi is in touch with the people?

What he said was not to watch Fox, CNN or MSNBC, in other words, the news! Being informed to public opinion would hurt his agenda.
He said this because Fox news is the number one cable news network and they aren't allies to Obama, he has tried to censor them, but the other networks demanded that he stop that, try to keep up, I know it's hard!

He was speaking to other politicians and telling them, " Just turn off the TV -- MSNBC, blogs -- and just go talk to folks out there, instead of being in this echo chamber where the topic is constantly politics. ... It is much more difficult to get a conversation focused on how are we going to help people than a conversation about how is this going to help or hurt somebody politically."

So telling the political leaders to stop listening to pundits and "analysts" and news anchors and telling them to go out and talk to the voters and to talk to each other about solving their problems is a bad thing?

Thats a good thing, but it aint happening, it should have happened a long time ago, maybe the president should be doing this?

This is a clear response to the bad press he's getting. When he tells the politicians to stop watching the news, what he really wants is for no one to pay attention to what he is doing. He has tried this before, to keep what he's doing a secret. He signed a petition to take Rush Limbaugh off the air, he tried to keep Fox news out of the loop at the whitehouse, even the other news agencies wouldn't allow that. If it where up to him, he would only allow liberal news people to report on what he was doing to put a bright sunny spin on the lack of leadership he has. He had full democratic control of the government and still couldn't get his agenda passed, this is bad leadership, really bad. And don't blame the GOP has no power, they havn't had any power for 3 years.

You're getting nutty.

"Just turn off the TV -- MSNBC, blogs -- and just go talk to folks out there, instead of being in this echo chamber where the topic is constantly politics. ... It is much more difficult to get a conversation focused on how are we going to help people than a conversation about how is this going to help or hurt somebody politically."

omg, what a radical crazy leader. We'd better impeach him.

In OTHER words, he's not talking about the PEOPLE, he's talking to DEMOCRATIC MEMBERS OF CONGRESS. Do you understand?

Ok, if you believe that, why isn't he telling the GOP that? He's suppose to be a bi-partisan leader, remember?

Maybe he should have told the democratic leaders to attend the tea party convention?

Yes it is hard to keep up when the pace is so far below me.

Thread title "OBAMA DOESN'T WANT US WATCHING TV"

Since when are any of us in the room of people he is talking to? Maybe you should try and go back to school and get some reading comprehension skills. You are playing the same game the politicians are, you have your agenda and you are spreading untruthful information based on how you choose to see what is said, not based on what is truly being said.

Once again please try and pull your head out of your ass. Since he was at a meeting of DEMOCRATIC leaders, he was responding to a direct question. In his time with the GOP, he answered the questions they asked of him.

Once again, try and shelf your preconceived notions and see things with some level of logic. I know it is difficult for your little brain to see outside the tunnel vision, but TRY.

Obama take away your guns yet? I thought that was happening last week?

This just proves how easy it is to wrangle the idiots, and how much closer the movie "idiocracy" is to being a documentary about the USA.

Let us not forget that more and more of the intelligent in this nation gets their news online, and knows how to READ the paper, so they do not tune into news onto the TV, most of which is old news anyways. So many online sources have the same info hours, if not a full day before the TV news networks get it.

I guess that fact he was speaking with a camera in front of him eluded you?

I got that he's back pedaling because the news organizations aren't putting a sunny outlook on his agenda.

But you will argue for your champion, I don't have one

Let us not forget that more and more of the intelligent in this nation gets their news online, and knows how to READ the paper, so they do not tune into news onto the TV, most of which is old news anyways. So many online sources have the same info hours, if not a full day before the TV news networks get it.
Read the paper? damn are you behind the times!

He probably will, we'll get a GOP house and senate and get something done, he will ride the success to another election

Yes, he was speaking with a camera in front of him, TO a group of people, his remarks were directed not to the CAMERA, but to the GROUP of people he was speaking to. We were given the opportunity to be onlookers. Once again, try to pull your head out of your ass long enough to see the difference between being spoken to, and being able to watch what others are doing.

I never said he was my champion. I actually disagree with a lot of the ways in which he has handled certain things, but I also don't bash him for things like this, or take things out of context. Nor do I take the things that the house or the senate tries to do and blame him for it. You are the one with a locked and loaded point of view, and you have shown that in your postings here.

I do commend him for admitting errors, and trying to change direction. If you want to call that backpedaling, so be it.

I don't like Obama, that's true, my opinion, because it's different than yours, I'm less of a person in your eyes, that's being "narrow minded"

I believe that the democrats are a cluster-fuck and can't agree enough to pass one bill when they don't need to include the GOP and have the backing of the president

I don't believe the GOP has any good leadership and need that. But they are sticking together and working together, unlike the democrats. Sadly Palin is the front runner.

I believe that our government officials are not in touch with what needs to be done, last time anything was done was when we had a Democrat President and a GOP lead house and senate, circa 1994

I also believe that the last time we had a true leader was when Ronald Reagan was president

And lastly, the best thing for the GOP is to do nothing and just say "no" to everything till the next elections, but that's not the best thing for the people

A good leader would find out how to work with the GOP and the Democrats, Obama has not been able or doesn't want to do this and come the next elections will loose a lot of his power, this is evident with the Mass. election and the failing numbers of the democrats that are up for election. And now they are scrambling to keep their jobs more than doing their jobs!

You opinon seems to be different and your response is to question my intelligence and to pull my head out of my ass, are book burnings next?

It's ironic how dicked up the REpublicans were during the presidential election, and how unified the Democrats were. Fast forward to a little over a year, and you a complete 180.

Sadly, we actually agree on many of the points you state above. Where we do not agree is in the way you sling your rhetoric. Two points coming to mind... Stating that "Obama wants to take away our guns" and "That Obama doesn't want us watching TV."

These are two blatant batches of bullshit. Speak the truth as you have in the above post, and you will get much further.

On your other points, which I have quoted, I am with you.

"Obama wants to take away our guns"

Liberals don't believe in the second amendment, plain and simple, every time one takes office, new gun laws take effect, under the guise of it's going to lower gun related crime, yeah the criminals love gun control legislation. Now they are making it harder to get ammo, trying to limit ammo purchases to 50 bullets per month, I go thru 500 every time I go shooting, minimum! I raised my daughter in my house with assault weapons and rifles handed down from generations of my family, she was trained how to shoot them and it was never a problem, she got a marksmanship ribbon for the pistol in boot camp in the Navy.

"That Obama doesn't want us watching TV."

I have a hard time with the way Obama has treated Fox news, denying them access to a white house meeting for one, he doesn't like that they are not reporting his agenda in a good light. It's censorship, no other word for it. I believe that Obama was venting his frustration over the news reporting on him during the speech that he knew was being seen by everyone.
Being in this business, I have a hard time with any form of censorship and every time Obama brings it up, I get a chill. He's no the first president to have problems with the press, but he is the worse at handling it

He had the camera on him and used it to vent his frustration over the news coverage that has hurt his agenda, if it were just for the democrats, it would have been behind closed doors like the deals he made to try and get the healthcare bill passed

Are you deliberately trying to confuse people? I figure yes to all such threads, but thats because I have more faith in peoples intelligence. Maybe it's my mistake, but I'm still choosing to believe that these threads are just tactics. Poor tactics, but still political tactics made to confuse dumb people.

You asked before why he didnt tell that to republicans. Maybe you missed the meeting he had last week with the republican congress? If you only watch Foxnews, then you missed it because Foxnews cut away from it as soon as Obama starting shoving their bullshit back into their faces on live tv. Foxnews said on sunday that they arent concerned with events, they are concerned with ratings. Instead of showing Obama OWNING the entire GOP on live tv, Foxnews cut away to crazy rabble rousing critics of Obama as usual. They are pussies.

So maybe thats why you missed it.

Show me the LAW that OBAMA is pushing through to limit OUR purchasing of ammo. Not a law from a senator, or a bill, or some other piece of shit proposal that isn't even close to the presidents desk.

You having a HARD time with what someone is saying or how you FEEL he is reacting has nothing to do with the cold hard facts of what is being said and done.

The media is just as much to blame for a lot of this shit, BOTH SIDES. They rally the masses and push for emotional responses. Why, because that gets people to tune in. From Howard, to Rush, to Beck they are all pushing the publics emotional button to get a reaction.

You have yet to point out any specific instance of OBAMA saying, "America, TURN OFF YOUR TVs" or signing any bills into law to take away guns or ammo. You are speculating.
