holy moly did not expect so many replys to this ..lol

He did this in his own time over the weekend, He pays for it himself not us

He keeps trying to get me to join WOW but I dont have time to play it so it would be a waste of money and its also not my thing TBH ..unless I could make money from it of course

I have seen him do this kind of thing before He went mad on those RC Petrol Cars and spent a shit load of money on it ,was always out racing the the thing, three months down the line he was bored with it and sold it and lost money on it.

But anyway I could not sit infront of a computer for 24 hours and play a game and if he does do it again I am gonna pull the plug .

For the people who did not realise how old I was ..I have posted pics on GFY of my self last year I think ...maybe I look young

And what is the fascination with WOW I just dont get it ? anyway each to ones own ..lol

Why don't you just buy his character all the way to the top (you know how you can buy those credits for whatever) and he'll get bored and maybe go outside and do something else. I have no idea how expensive this route is, btw.

I feel your pain.

I'm a recovering Warcraft addict myself. I don't know why that thing is so addictive... To most people it can be very boring. Grinding is boring. But somehow, its extremely addictive. Even now I still get the jones to reactivate my level 60 gnome rogue (Ack! someone kill me! lolz)

I used to be a hardcore gamer when I was his age too (got paid to play on a team and go to tournaments). The only thing you can do as a parent is pull the internet connection, but as soon as its back on you bet your ass he'll be playin again.

I still fight the urge at least 3 times a week to reactivate my epic'd lvl 80 NE rogue ;)

Was in a solid group but then the leader up n got drunk one night and went nuts on everyone(not me) and pretty much distanced himself from everyone and it was never the same since and they all broke up.

So i said fuck it and left the game all together. But I still want to get in and pvp some nights after some long hours of work to gear down ;)

I was always better at pvp than pve anyway...

As some one who still plays, at 36, I can tell you that the game is all about balance. Balance work, play, and relationships. I still have my stints where I will go 10-12 hours with a laptop right next to me, answering emails and such while my character is flying or doing other things that don't need my attention. I also spend time each day Reading, spend time each week playing Hockey and golf. Spend time away from the computer with friends and GF.

I am very big into Balance. Take away this harmless release, you may find yourself creating a nasty relationship between the two of you. Your choice. IMO Pulling the Plug is not the answer.

11 millon subscribers rebilling monthly. The crack will only get bigger and better.
Gaming in Japan, Singapore and Korea is even more of an addiction, it's peoples entire lives here... for some.

Is watching TV, movies or partying all night a good alternative? At least its a social game. Try playing it with him, in moderation perhaps. Family bonding, turn it into a positive.

Games were the catalyst for me to learn about computers.

I kid you not...

When I worked for Comcast tech support, this lady phones me up and asks me to turn off the internet because her daughter has locked herself in her room and taken the modem and the computer hostage, and she honestly did not want to bust down the door just to get to the computer.

So I set her account to walled garden (no access except loopback) and hit the reset button. In the background I could hear her screaming at her mother, she was PISSED. She asked me "that quick? It's off?", and i'm like "Yup.. I click and it's offline... that quick. Call back when you want it restored, i'll put notes on the account explaining the reasons, so you don't need to go through any hassles..."

Not a pretty solution, but it is a solution.

Dont get me wrong I dont mind him playing it at all but to stay up for 24 hours and only moving to get something to eat and drink is not right. I have spoken to him about it and he says he just got so indulged with it. Hopefully I wont have to pull the plug but I am not gonna let him do that again and im hoping that this is another one of his fads which he goes through

pulling the plug isn't the answer, I agree but at 18 the kid shouldn't be spending all of his time walled up in his room playing games either. he'll regret it later in life if he keeps doing it. it may be easier to avoid life right now and live through this fantasty life that may "seem" better but in the end, you achieve nothing with it.

From wowdetox... and I bet that this is real!

Well, I played for about 2 years during TBC. I was the top tank on my server in the best guild and we easily plowed though all TBC raids when they came out. Then when wrath came out, I was thinking "so, we just spent days of time in lvl 70 boss raids and have the best gear avaiable, but now we get to 80 and it's like blizz says "welcome to wrath, ICC is now available". It's like, wow, I have ruined my social relationships, lost my Gf, failing school, and now a lvl 80 in AH rares/epics could easily kill any of our lvl 70 decked epic characters. I saw the cycle and it will probably be the same in cataclysm. To anyone out there who wants to quit, just remember your guildies don't char about you, go hang out with some of your RL friends and see if anything has changed since you started playing WoW. If they think your weird or stupid, maybe use that as motiavation. My turning point was when I saw a friend who had recently quit and I said "dude, come back to WoW, you can be an officer still according to the GM." He said this "no man, I quit wow for a reason. dude you should really consider it." then his GF walks over and I think, wow I havn't seen a real girl in about 2 years. Then we talk for a little while and I call him that night to see if hwe wants to do go to movies or something. I only wanted to be with him because we were not raiding that night. He comes over to pick me up and I'm like "woah, is that your car?" its a brand new mercedes. "he says, yay man. I have got a job making over 200k now." i think i have only 21k my dad left me for college but never used it. We go to the movies and he drops me off, I go into WoW and a guildie jumps on me"where were you we were raiding ugh we wiped because we had to have druid tank. Ugh man, wtf?"
I just think about my friend and am like" I am done."
I log off and don't go on for about a month. I lof back on to find they kicked me from guild and no one is talking to me anymore. I just quit since then. I had the help of this site to get me through it. I hope you can quit soon too.

ok this is the disturbing part right here.... you talk about it like you were out with friends in real life, like it really happened.... its a fucking computer game! Waste of time.

My tip: is your son going out from time to time or is he every weekend behind the pc? If he isnt going out, you should suggest that. Ok, there is the drinking part but he is socializing and that is what kids should do. And there is the chicks part also... its good for youth to do that. Let him get some real world experience and i bet he will be thankful for that because nothing beats that. Trust me i know, when i was a teenager i barely had social stuff and it teared me up inside.

Anyone who thinks WOW is different from CoD and all those shooter games is ridiculous.

And I agree with your post. How come if you play those gun games for 24 hours a day you are cool but if you PVP in WOW for 20 your a faggy nerd? It doesnt make sense video games are ALL ADDICTIVE.

I remember pausing Super Mario 1 on NES and waking up next day to finish the level, but I guess that was too long ago for some of the kids around here LOL

There is no difference between WOW and other video games, just those who think one os more addictive than the other.

If you lack self control youll never function in life, let alone be able to put down a video game controller.

Its not really spam I just dont promote or dicuss products without a link to a site I own, simple as that. Nothing for free in this world. Ive sold tons of copies of that dumb game. LOL In fact, my wow pages long since paid for the monthly cost of the game LOL

I didn't see halfpint say the kid spends night and day every day in there, he said that the kid pulled 1 24 hour stint.

If he is still doing other things, and still going to work/school and handling his responsiblities. My opinion is to leave him alone. It sounds like halfpint already talked to him, and I think that is a good thing.

Yes he does a lot of other things Eric

What i cant get my head around is when I was his age there was no way I could sit infront of the games consoles which were around when I was 18 for a whole 24 hours Maybe a couple of hours at that was it. I was more intrested in going out with my mates at that age.

Some of my sons friends do the same thing over weekends they sit in thier rooms playing WOW there is so much more to life and especially at that age than wasting a whole weekend staring at little figures on a computer screen.

Maybe im to old fashioned or something ..I dont know
