Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants

I think the census is pretty important and anyways $2.5million is small change.

The basic facts are the only way the US is gonna balance its books is to stop spending billions on pointless wars, reduce spending on healthcare (medicare) and raise taxes.

that's exactly what i am saying in this thread too! pointing fingers at a $2.5m census advert and saying that's stupid spending, instead we should multiply that x 365 and give away that amount in homes to the homeless and cross our fingers that someones makes them a viable part of the workforce all while the MAJORITY of our budget is spent on entitlement programs just like this makes no sense.

This is the only question they need to know. Anything beyond that including but not limited to GPS coordinates of front doors is overreaching. The census is just a very small part of a much bigger problem.

i stand corrected, there's one correct fact- the overall budget number. but to cast in a light of the obama white house going willy nilly with the census bureau budget is disinformation.

that train has been chugging since the last census. just like the original thread topic- the op wasn't aware that the last census, 10 years ago, the bureau also advertised during the super bowl.

look, not sure why there's an attempt to argue with me here, i know government spending is out of control, i've already commented on that.

but to try and pied piper a group of GFYers re: reallocating census bureau ad dollars to giving away houses to the homeless is a poor & ironic choice of line items to nitpick.

and then to add that the census is yet another government tool to rope in americans makes it all laughable.

Constitution reads

"An Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct."

In 1980 Congress changed it with this "statute"

"As used in this section, 'census of population' means a census of population, housing, and matters relating to population and housing."

This "legalized" all sorts of invasive data collection but they had actually been doing it since 1930 just before the bankruptcy.

It's not a "roping in" it is IN FACT now an inventory of assets to borrow against so they can continue the spending that you speak of.
