I lived in Toronto October 09 to April 09. Basically the entire winter, it wasn't pretty. However, once you get used to it, wrap up in warm clothes, it isn't bad at all. Friendly people, great party scene for the most part and not over priced like most of Europe is.

I enjoyed living in Toronto, big city, I miss it.

i can't really think of any cons. of course, i'm a snowboarder/downhill biker and live in the BC coastal mountain range, so for me it's a no brainer. i love the mountains. i'd never leave Canada permanently, though i have taken off for 6 months several times to travel, and am going to continue to do that. i grew up in Alberta (Edmonton), and am glad to have moved to the west coast, way too cold over there.

Hehe...

I remember my first full winter. One day it was like -20 or so, nasty out, frozen ice, wind.. everyone was bundled up, it was crazy. Next day it was -15, sunny, nice out other than cold as hell - then I saw some guy jogging in shorts down the road, followed by a person with the convertible top down.

... Canadians.

At a personal level I didn't find them bad, compared to the rewards. Medical, money back for energy, other crap. But at a business level, they cut your head off - it's for sure a con.

Or dont allow masturbating in your own bathroom, or in case you hear drunk screaming near your house and see your car punched you just shut the doors and sit quiet... freedom, choice, working law, is there any fucked up shit in Canada you'd moan about? Unless you never lived in a 3rd world, i think you don't know what i mean.

Canada rocks. In the end if you compare it to most places on Earth it exceeds expectations.

Cons: Taxes. Not the personal taxes so much as the sales tax, liquor taxes, airport taxes, gas taxes etc. Drives me insane how high they are.

Weather as well. I hate the only option Canadians have for decent weather is Vancouver and Victoria. Americans are lucky they can live in any climate they want. You want Vancouver, they got Seattle. You want sunshine you got Florida, California, Hawaii, Arizona etc. You want the mountains and 4 seasons you got the mountains in Nevada, Colorado, Utah.

Options!

pros: Canadian guys have big dicks. When I went to Toronto *every* guy I met had a huge dick and a lot of guys walked around with big bulges, it was so hot, and I was like . And in Montreal the dicks there were big too. I would move to Canada in a heartbeat.

there are no cons

i lived there for 4 years. everything is overpriced if you're used to living in the US. quality goods are scarce unless you ebay shop and have everything delivered, paying a fortune in duties and brokerage fees. its also very cold, the oil in your car will freeze without a block heater. i used to have to remove my battery every night as it would freeze and be useless too if I didn't bring it indoors and sit it near a heater. your heating bills will be high as fuck. there is 1 black person every 1000 square miles unless you're in toronto or a bit city with islander immigrants and/or displaced africans freeing political asylum. canada is a plan "b" for them as they tried to get into the US first but got their visas held up so they're sticking it out. cars are rusty and old. there are no warranties to be upheld on anything, even if you got it in writing fuck you... there is no legal recourse. everyone drinks lakers and honey beer by the case daily from the beer store. customs will strip your car down, rip your carpet out and even remove the upholstery on your seats if you are american. even if you're a legal canadian resident like me, they know you're not native born and will fuck with you for hours at border crossings. also the money is colored brown, red, blue, and all sorts of other gay colors. there are no 1 or 2 dollar bills. cell phones are expensive. bread is expensive. lack of familiar US brands, too much englishUK influences on everything. -40 degree nights. stupid, just really stupid and large white girls. the french speaking girls are hot, petite, athletic matress monsters. and they like black dudes a lot. oh, and before i forget. there are a few native indians there that people treat like shit, which works out to my advantage. thats my canada experience, yours may vary.

The taxes don't bother me at all in Canada. Go anywhere else and chances are you're paying state & federal taxes on good and services too, AND chances are equally good that the people who live in those areas are bitching about it as well.

The cold doesn't bother me either. In fact I love the change in seasons we get here, I find it more interesting than just having one continuous season, or in some countries 2: hot and rainy. No thanks, I prefer a real spring, a real fall, and in order to have that you need a real winter in between. We get about 5 months of warm-to-hot weather here, that's just fine by me. No mosquitos in winter, huge plus right there.

One of the few things I've bitched over about Canada is the price of gas. We're one of the largest producerrs of oil in the world and are the largest seller of oil to the US, yet we pay MORE for gas than Americans do. Meanwhile other oil-producing nations like Venezuela seel gas to their citizens for dirt cheap. I'm not saying Canadians should be able to buy gas for 12 cents a litre, but surely we should be paying less or at the very least comparable to prices in the US.

People who live in border towns know what I'm talking about. I have relatives and friends in such towns who for decades have been driving across to the US to fill up with gas. Because it's always been cheaper. For many years there was the excuse that the USD is worth more but that's not been the case for a while now, the two have been nearly at par at times in recent years. Yet gas is still cheaper in the US.

For anybody with money, the only good thing about Canada is the passport. If you are poor and have a lot of babies or serious health problems, Canada is a good option. However, after saying that the only place I would ever consider living in Canada given those circumstances (and trust me it still sucks) is Western BC.

Alot of people who have never travelled think the same way. Winnipeg is the biggest shithole in Canada, so that is my only explanation for your post.

Yeah this is what I am talking about...It's not just income taxes but the insane sales taxes and hidden duties that drive up prices on everything.

i've traveled pretty much the entire world, and i completely disagree. western bc does not suck lol. it's beautiful, mild weather, awesome mountains, great roads to rip around in your sports car on, endless activities (if you are active). great food, etc. meh, to each his own.

Lived in Vancouver area my whole life except for a year in Tucson, AZ.

Pros: great outdoors activities, a little rain never stopped anybody!
health care taken care of
RRSPs are helpful
fairly friendly people & communities
walkable neighbourhoods, unlike more modern american cities
lots of "local food" places
great food in Vancouver, at least!

Cons:
high sales taxes on everygoddamnthing, here comes the HST!
high gas prices ($1.14 a litre for 89 octane right now)
bad traffic
high rents/land value
basically expensive cost of living in Vancouver
you might as well learn Chinese. It's handy.

That place is good times, for sure I thought you had a better picture, though? One of the river?
