If I could bring myself to really and truly "retire" in the classic sense meaning no longer working in my current business (adult)

I would move to St. Marteen island and open up a tiki bar at China Beach and play acoustic guitar at night at the bar and just enjoy the sun, the ocean and all the nude babes getting rays.

I just don't think I could ever bring myself to stop working though because I love it too much.

First, I'd travel to many different countries to decide where exactly I'd like to setup my permanent base of operations. Probably travel for a solid year for this phase.

Once found, I'd build a castle there to live in.

Then, I would likely focus on building businesses that I feel are lacking or missing where I live. Whether it's starting an indy wrestling fed, owning a rock bar / live venue, etc... I'd need something to keep busy with.

I'd also teach poor countries there is something out there for them other than soccer; it's called hockey.

Also, I'd like to set up like a wild animal sanctuary perhaps.

It took me a long time to figure out what I wrote above, I've been trying to reinvent myself since the new year, so that's what I figured out after I took some effort trying to understand myself again.

Took it easy for some time, cause I didn't take any real time off from 2003 till the start of 2010, while studying college, holding full time jobs, so I usually had a program for 12 - 16 hours a day, add a job related burn out, family tragedy and I've ended up as a nervous wreck with damaged health for the most of 2009.

Needless to mention it definitely was a mistake on my end, unclear priorities, unclear goals, not listening to the gut instinct, too much showing off of the "strong will" and "extreme loyalty" etc. Like speeding a car in bad direction till you ran out of gas.

But I guess I'm getting somewhere

So far I've:

- fixed my body
- fixed my spending - never in my life did I borrow money till two years ago, it broke through at the point when I obviously started curing my depression with extreme spending, now I am regularly hitting my savings goal every month again, as if it would be the most natural thing
- fixing my social life - reviving old ties and making new ones

What's next is to reach a sufficient level of recurring income, that will enable me to move another step forward after I finish college next year.

Have at least 9 things on paper that should have been online already, I guess I have to "manipulate my mind" or rather kick my ass some more and stop babbling

Honestly, I think most of us will have a hard time ever retiring.

How many people have made statements like "my 20's blew past me because I was in front of my computer working?"

For me at least, work is also my hobby.

Even if I retire and take up a hobby, my favorite hobby is working.

Quiet managed to retire but he has even said right here on GFY that managing his nest egg might as well be a full-time job.

I don't think I will ever retire. I might just die in front of my pc while working.. I'll be like 90 years old sitting in front of my pc wearing nothing but Depends, working and I will have a massive heart attack. My head will smash the keyboard and LOL will be embedded in my forehead. haha

Well, maybe not exactly like that, but I'm sure it will be close. ;)

I've thought about it a lot. Over the years we've had a number of people approach us about acquiring us. It always gets me thinking man what would I do. It's a really tough question to answer. In many ways I feel like a prisoner who doesn't want to be let out of jail. I don't want to spend my life here but at the same time it's the only thing I know.

I personally have no idea. I don't think I would move because I have my closest friends and my family near.

I would be bored off my ass for sure. Especially since I've been working my ass off since I was 15.

Lets hear your Retirement Plans.
I would manage my investments, most of which would be real-estate related and not take more than 10 - 20 hours a week which I could do from anywhere in the world. I would spend more time with my family, travel on vacation and to sporting events in other cities, play golf, go fishing as much as I wanted. Get a place by the beach and relax... can't wait for the day. The people who get high off of success and accomplishment can keep it, I didn't need success, acknowledgment, I've worked my ass off for one reason alone, so as soon as possible I wouldn't have to work any more and I could do all of the things I enjoy doing.

I've worked and put my time in, but I would be just as happy if I hit the power ball and was able to retire from that and not from my efforts. I'm past the days of tryig to be the biggest or the best, I just want to be the most retired

My Plan is already set, and I work 16 hours a day, every single day, to accomplish this Goal. I am thinking two-three years and I'm there.

Retire from Adult with 1/2 mil + in the bank.
Move to where the pretty girls are: Czech Republic
Finish my novel and my screenplay
Keep all the Adult sites running, silently, in the background, bringing in cash.

That's plan A.
Plan B:

Visit Robbie in Vegas, go on a four-day coke bender, end up naked in a Sands hotel room with sticky hundreds plastered to MY forehead, four bottles of half-empty Jack on the nightstand and then I slip in the tub trying to sober up and die.

Either way, I'm good. :D

the girls are well worth the time here,

on the other hand I always found foreign girls more open, extroverted and easier to pick up, have no clue why, but I'm not the only one, maybe it's just that I'm exotic abroad so you'd be the one that's exotic here and that would make it even.

Btw. last time I almost picked up a drunken one night stand was when I was in a bar with a well known GFY'er and we sure spoke English (my accent doesn't sound very local and have no problems playing a foreigner ).

That's entirely possible, last time I was in Vegas in 2009 I already received an informal invitation for a threesome with C M

Robbie means what he says and says what he means.

I have been travelling quite a bit in the last few years. According to my Facebook-Tripadvisor-App I have been to 97 noteworthy cities in 30 countries sofar.
And there is so much more to see.
I dont know if I ever get tired of travelling.

I dont see myself as retired though. Even though I can afford things, many people cant (Ferrari, Travelling whenever I want, etc) I feel very very poor when I go to places like Monaco during the F1 Grand Prix or similar. I want to reach so much more before I'd consider myself retired.

I would probably get back into motorsports too, just for the fun of it.

Lets see what time brings

This seems like a total contradiction to all your posts.
Did you have a change of attitude recently?
I seem to remember post after post from you on crudades to expose what you thought was wrong about this biz.

That does not seem like a person who was just looking to make money and retire..

on the contrary, my "crusades" were because I witnessed first hand spyware hijacking my cookie and stealing my clickcash sales. It was because I was pissed at losing money and wanted to bring everyone else's attention to it so we could all try to do something about it. I knew I couldn't make a dent on my own. Other people may have seen what I was doing for other reasons, but it was all about losing money, not some righteous cause or for recognition from others, attention etc...

I was a more motivated in years past for "success" with money being a by product. The older and more tired I get the more that has flipped. I want to make money and the "success" can be a by product whether people notice it or not I don't care. I've never been one to flaunt it, spend more than I make or buy all of the toys.

With that being said my business ethics are still intact and I won't be going to the dark side for greed or to try to make more money. While my focus is making money I want to earn it the honest way, and also never land my ass in jail or a lawsuit. I guess my biggest fault is trying to help people and flak that I get back from doing that from other people here, which unfortunately makes it turn out to be a waste of time.

From day one this has always been a means to an end for me. My biggest goal I set when I started at age 24 was to be retired by 30. Since I am 33 that didn't happen but it's always been my main goal, to make enough to retire from doing this.

Great thread Dave if i am honest i have never thought about what i would do when i retire until i just read this thread. The first thing that comes to mind is a nice place by the beach somewhere and relaxing.

Maybe a boat to to enjoy the sea and a jet ski. I would have to move first though as there is not much sun here in the UK i'm thinking Cyprus at the moment. Thanks for the thread and thought provoking

Well, when you are on your boat in Cyprus. You can think of me.

It is a hard question. Retirement can be so different to each and everyone as it clearly shows in this thread.

Thanks,

I'd surf and hang out with my family.

Do a little traveling.

I really don't get you "I'll never retire" guys... My business is setup so that I can make the most while doing the least and freeing up as much free time as possible...

Unfortunately none of the stuff I really enjoy makes any money. Given a massive chunk of cash in the bank, I would happily retire and fuck off for the rest of my life, never doing another productive thing in my life.

I also can't believe figures like "80 hours a week" and "20 hours a day"... The real wealth is time and freedom, not money

Two things

1) Travel the world and the seven seas! Seriously, massive traveling.

2) Take some physics courses from MIT, specifically in electro magnetics... I have a theory that needs proving :P It would require a good deal of funding though but since money is no object in the thread ;)

I have no fricken idea. My twins will be turning 1 one in 8 days, so taking off and traveling around the world is out of the question, I was never big on traveling anyways.

I enjoy weekend getaways, my hobbies are racing Dirt Bikes, Racing Cars, boating, and anything dangerous.

I just need a place to go in the mornings, I can't wake up and not have somewhere to go. I guess it's always better to want then to have, so if you think of the idea of living on an island somewhere, I bet in a month, you would miss the city.

So I have no idea to be Honest!!!

That may be why I'm still starting new projects and enjoying work so much. I really love to work.

I can absolutely identify with this,

The things that I'm really passionate about - music, movies, entertainment, people, are not exactly a gate to "solid \ regular living" although I'm trying to translate at least a bit into copy writing and drafting effective sales presentations for my sites.

It's also in contradiction to my original education (cybernetics), when I was 18 I just chose what seemed like a pragmatic choice, never had problems with advanced maths or more creative stuff like say artificial intelligence, but hated the geeky stuff like microprocessors and all that semi mechanical crap.

It just doesn't excite me at all plus 98 pct. of the students were associal, out of this world, extra terrestrial super geeks wearing two sweathers a year.

Now I should get my degree from international business next year, I enjoy that more.

BUT If you don't have money then you very likely don't have time nor freedom.

Time and Money are almost like oil and water. (IN MOST CASES) if you make a lot of money it is because you work, or worked a lot, so you have little free time. If you have a lot of free time that means you are not working much and likely broke. So most people either have money but no time to spend it or lots of time but no money to spend to do anything.

When you "retire" if you do so having successfully reached a financial point to sustain your life style then you have time and money. Time+Money = Freedom. or what I call Financial Freedom aka Retired.

I want to go and live off the land in texas, doing missions for people and helping people who are being harrased by bandits.

I've been playing Red Dead Redemption way to much, I think.

I think retiring is more about the feel. You have to do what makes you feel good.

If I had lots of money when I retire, I think i'll start a porn company. Nothing like fucking 3 hot sluts a day on film, then make money off my fun. Everybody's gotta have a dream, right?
