Biggest reason for people to cancel = There are 100s of similar sites on the Web.

Yes updates help if they are fresh and different from what is already there. Too many sites churn out the same scene over and over again, be it new or already there. Even if you update once a day with exclusive all from different shooters, that's only 30 new scenes a month. Don't you think the buyer knows for his $30 he can buy a membership to a similar site and get access to a lot more?

Plus as the article points out 30 new exclusive scenes worth watching would bankrupt most sites.

The downturn of the industry has nothing to do with people leaving one site and joining another. That's called a moving market and when one person leaves to buy elsewhere another joins who left another site. The downturn is people stop buying altogether because we fail to meet their needs.

Nice article except it makes conclusions that don't fit most sites.

The problem and cost of creating a site that's different from the 100s of other sites, in a major niche, are awesome and only a few can afford it. Twistys is one that comes to mind.

It would take a lot of money, a lot of thought and shooters and models who make their work stand out.

In micro niche it's slightly different than major niches. But they have to be run and shot by people who totally understand the niche and it's particular style.

It still does not address the problem of people not buying at all. And that's the problem today. Are we a business that can only survive if the consumer has no options other than buying?

As I said in another thread, pointing out the problems is easy, coming up with a solution is not.

It assumes porn customer will take the time to answer. Also you don't need a constant flow of new porn to jack off. We have had customers go for a while and then they come back.If you are giving them updates and good customer service. Then you are hands above a large number of of sites. To lower prices, update 5 times a day your chasing a maybe if and killing your roi to boot. I have a friend has a site that's doing very well and he updates once a week,one scene thats it. And his members love him.

That's why I suggest you bribe them with something. It's the same thing grocery stores do to collect data on you - you get discounts if you use their "preferred card". It's the same thing car dealers do to get you to come in and test drive a car - you get a chance to get White Sox tickets, or $100.

I believe I mentioned that porn customers are pretty unlikely to answer unless there's something in it for them that they value more than the time it takes to fill out your survey. Maybe a way around this would be to be upfront and say "The survey will take only 5 minutes of your time...and for it, you'll be entered in our weekly contest for XYZ".

And about the constant flow of new porn, you're exactly right. BUT, let's say you ARE updating three, four times a week, and customers would stay with you even if you only updated twice a week...exit interviews and testing could help you determine this - AND it'd be saving you money in the long run with less content buys/shoots.
