Damn it's adding up quite a bit now.

Would it be an idea for CCbill to send out an email to everybody who was at TPF to make sure to double check their cc statements?

My question: What is the point of all of this? They will never touch neither the money, nor receive any of the goods they ordered. The shipping points are to far apart (New Zealand, Colombia, Saudi Arabia, Montreal, Las Vegas, etc.). Do they just want to fuck with people and cause trouble? Everybody will just report them to the police and do a chargeback. How do they get the money?

Can anyone enlighten me please? Any ideas?

Thanks,
Andreas

Two or three people are complaining of the same thing on gay boards. Doesn't seem to be a coincidence at this point. One guy was using a card that he rarely uses and only recently used there. A transaction popped up in NYC.

Well I only used my card at the ATM in the hotel and at the bar at the hotel, the rest I paid was in cash so I am pretty sure it is that ATM, altough the other option would be that one of the hotel employees skimmed the cards when people had a tab open.

There are several ways to work with stolen credit cards, this is well organised actually. You have people who skim and sell the credit card details but you also have people who specialize in carding (taking money of stolen credit cards). They normally don't go to ATM's etc as that is too much work and too risky. What they do is they work with cardable sites (online shops where security is low and where they can use stolen credit cards). They order goods from several shops (goods which are valuable, can be sold quickly on the black market like game consoles etc etc) and have those delivered to several drop locations. For example they break into an empty building and make it appear as a normal home or business, they have tons of packages delivered there in only a few days after which they disappear. The goods are sold on the black market then which makes it almost impossible to trace.

When people find out that their credit card was used for fraud they call the bank which will block their card. Either the bank will take the loss or they file charge backs where the problem and loss will be pushed to the merchant (shop). Banks normally take to the loss and hardly communicate these things as they still want everybody to believe that their money is safe with the bank. These days it is becoming a real problem as it happening more and more and the underground market is very professional these days. Either way the customer will always pay for the damage by higher bank fees or higher retail fees as shops calculate these risks into their pricing nowadays.

I just wanted to get back and let you know that we did report all the posted blocked card incidences from this thread directly over to the Tempe Mission Palms on Monday morning. The hotel contacted us a bit ago to say that they have been working with their payment system providers since Monday to do a thorough investigation of their systems, and their provider is doing the same for their overall network. Tempe Mission Palms will contact us directly as soon as they are permitted to report on what was found; and we will get that information out to the boards as soon as we have more details.

Thanks again to everyone who chimed in here?.it is horrible that this affected you, but by sounding off here, you have helped to get this addressed much more quickly.

Add one more card to the list.

I stayed with a friend who lives in PHX, but I did run a bar tab and used the ATM machine. I also ate at the irish pub just next door to the hotel several times.

My card was used for $844 USD in Spain for 'clothing accessories'

Yes, pretty recently, when I tried to BET 100 bucks for BRAZIL win on World Cup, it was blocked, probably because VISA is not accepting bets from that bank.

After all it wasn't that bad, because I was also going to BET for a Spain Win, hehe.

The skimmers they use now are way less obvious than they used to be:

Could always be compromised by a hack as well. The Sweetbay near my neighborhood has been hacked twice. Sounds like some of you guys are getting calls from your banks first, mine just shuts everything down and waits for me to call them freaking out because all my cards are turned off.

Thanks for the update. How about sending out a mailing to all attendees? I mean most will have insurance on it but I am sure some will get fucked on this.

This happened to one of my business visa cards a couple months ago. Just small chargers. I got a call and they had already flagged the card and were calling me to ask to make sure it wasn't me. That card was closed and a new one was sent out right away.

Such a shitty call to get. Glad it was handled quickly though.

Rho just got her card ganked - We both think it was that grouchy guy in the gift store selling smokes for $10 a pack. Neither of us used our cards anywhere else...
