Hosthead has lousy support

Hosthead suspended my account with no warning and no communication and they have no phone support after business hours. Why did they do it? Who the fuck knows because Hostead doesn't have support after business hours. In other words, fuck Hosthead because they suck balls.

Prices starting at $4/mo and you expect them to have a support staff available 24/7/365?

I wouldn't.

I'm not paying $4 a month. Anyway for a service I expect something - answering an email or support ticket, which they haven't. There isn't anything wrong with my payment - they charged my CC several days ago. I have no idea what could be wrong but expect some kind of a warning that something is amiss before they just drop me. I've been out of town and have probably been down for days. I've asked them before to not suspend my account for overage just charge me, and they said they would and as policy normally did. I've used them as a host for years and never had a problem, and to be treated so shabbily is surprising.

They changed their billing system apparently, which didn't merge the old data. They sent me a message along the same lines.

I'm moving my sites elsewhere, I only have a few with them anyway, no big deal.

No offense meant to the O.P., but I have to agree with BD.

People who want to pay nothing, or a few bucks for hosting and want superior everything are really going to find out with MOST (not all) hosting companies that simply you are getting what you pay for.

If you read a lot of WM forum, especially where a lot of people have DEDI. You will find most of the managed and DEDI customers almost never have a complaint. While virtual and shared sometimes will, or can be bad. I find thing on a lot of boards that almost polar opposite.

Should companies provide the same level of service for both? High end and pennies? Well, that is their call on how they plan to run their business. However, I have noticed that the higher end clients almost never complain about their web hosting company unless something goes terribly wrong. Where as those penny and couple of dollar folk are endlessly complaining.

Again, no offense meant to the O.P., I was simply making an observation.

Never been better treated than at Amerinoc.
Started out in the beginning with a small shared account, got examplary service and a treatment which made me move all my sites there. True 24/7 support and fast response times. When the time came to move on up in the world, to dedicated, I didn't even shop around because the choice was so obvious. Without these guys, I wouldn't be in business today. Give them a chance if you now want to move.

I use 3 different hosts because I haven't found one that I trust with all my domains. That for me is the conundrum with dedicated servers and having all my domains in one place. Dedicated is better supposedly, better support supposedly, but if they do down then you're out of business. I've lost roughly a third of my domains and it sucks but I'm not all down. I would still rather have small accounts and domains spread out and lousy support. And then come on GFY and complain about it.

it sounds like you need co-lo, or mirrored service. Then you would still be 'up' if one was down (i.e. redundancy). For example, I have some of my major boxes (my own personal sites stuff) hosted, or mirrored at two places. Two different data centers in different states. So if there was a network issue at one, then I would still have a second location up.

Same as I do for my web hosting company's name servers. I have them actually running at multiple locations so that it keeps my clients unaffected if there was an issue on one network. This way, I do not have to worry about one being down. I also do RAID 1 on my boxes as well as a side note in case of hardware issues to minimize downtime if a drive failed. It's never happened, but I also never want it to.

My point being, if you are mission critical, invest in the redundancy options. With all the hosting companies out there, I would be interested to know who you have hosted with in the past, and what type of set up you have. Sounds like bad experiences all around.

How does a colo insure redundancy?

What the hell does colo have to do with being "up" .

I would have to disagree.

If someone was to come to you to buy one of your services for less money then someone else would you treat the two people different? This is not good business.

There are many many many BIG hosts out there who have cheap virtual hosting because they know there is money in it. They all have 24/7 ticket/phone/email support. I have about 5 of these accounts for blogging.

The hosts on this board are not the only hosts around. There are many more out there that are very good that have big datacenters, that dont rent rackspace that have professional support and cheap hosting. and they treat every customer the same.

To pay more for better service within the same company to me is just bad service. I have customers that spend 10k a year with me and some that spend 200k. I treat them all the same. You never know who they know and who they will refer to you for business. I may pay 70 dollars a year for hosting but what if my cousin runs Match.com and is looking for a place to put 200 servers.

Anyone selling any service or goods should treat every customer the same way. This is business 101.

Also, the OP was jumped on through speculation of what account he had. Hosthead doesn't only have 4 dollars virtual accounts.

I've had a dedicated server with Webair for many years and have been very happy with it. I would also rate their support as excellent. I don't work for Webair either. I'm a real webmaster, so my opinion is genuine, not fabricated.

I was VERY surprised to read the thread title... I've been with HH for a few years now and they've ALWAYS impressed me with the level of service, night or day.

When shit has hit the fan, they've responded and helped out, any time of day...

I am a dedicated customer though, so dunno if that does make a difference.

I have to say, threads like this do concern me though and I'd love them to come and respond.

Things certainly can get blown out of proportion quickly. First of all, Foorhoom your "account" was never suspended. One domain under your account was suspended as it was under some kind of attack and it was effecting the server it was hosted on to the point of effecting other customers. I will admit that it appears the ball was dropped on our end, and the tech didn't alert you to the problem. After speaking with him, he has stated he "forgot". I won't accept this as an excuse, and the will be dealt with accordingly. If you feel you must move your account to a different host that is your choice, I would hope you would reconsider. I would certainly like to offer you a month free to make up for your inconvenience.

You are correct, we do not offer off hours "phone" support. Never have, and it hasn't been an issue. We did receive your page, and your support ticket, and your issue was investigated immediately.

We do offer 24/7support via email ticketing system, and always have.

I'm not going to sit and justify our pricing, but we do try to offer something for everyone, and no one hosting an adult site with any kind of traffic would be on our lowest end plan. However there are thousands of people that host personal sites that this plan works just fine for. So just because we offer a low end $4.00 per month plan, doesn't change the quality of our service.

We haven't been around for over 9 years because we don't take care of our customers, and offer the highest end service and support in the industry.
