Your request is being processed... Brad Pitt: I Would Consider Death Penalty For BP

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/0..._n_690790.html
"Brad Pitt has harsh words for BP in Spike Lee's new documentary about New Orleans...."

Finally someone with some pull says exactly what i've been saying all along. BP should be killed as a corporation or Hayward (or one of those head douchebags) should get the chair. Enough is enough! BP is guilty of eco-terrorisim to the highest degree through criminal negligence.

on edit- don't know where that "your request is being processed" came from! haha

You should lose your right to operate as a business after that.

But money talks, bullshit walks. They can do whatever they want. The paltry amount of money they will have to pay is NOTHING for them.

Bad Pitt, Bono and Sean Penn - they all tell you want you want to hear. But if that makes you happy, the so be it. Go vote for them as the next president.

Sure there would be. Freeze their assets and pay for it with their own money.

Look, as private citizens we are held responsible for shit like this. If I burned by neighborhood down by mistake, it would be me ass and if anyone died, I'd go to the monkey house. Corps should not be given a pass for such destruction. Hell, if you got caught dumping ANYTHING in the ocean from a paddle boat, it would be your ass.

Their assets would be to complicated to get to the bottom of.

I think it would just encourage a cycle of fuck-up to new company in the same way double-glazing businesses work to get out of their guarantees.

Like it or not - if that happened, the industrial revolution would slot to a stop, and we would never be able to go further, cheaper, cleaner or faster than we do today. Nobody would be willing to take any risks and invest money in anything.

There was a security system that failed. Fix the cause, learn from it and move along. It's not like the people of BP WANTED this to happen. They paid a lot of people money to make sure it dident. They might also have paid people not to check, but that is part of the reason for the whold disaster to begin with, as I mentioned before.

The answer to the current problems is not to turn the whole world in to North Korea or Iran.

If I was running a risky business with the threat of being shut down hanging over it purely for an accident everything would be so well hidden you'd never get to the bottom of it.

Hahaha. Comeon seriously.

I wish some of these hollywood idiots would just stick to making films and butt out of shit they know nothing about.

BP wasn't the only company to blame. 3 American companies were directly tied into this disaster because they either manned the rig, manufactured the faulty equipment etc. Brad needs to educate himself a little before opening his mouth

What a hypocrite. He used to be against the death penalty in cases of murder, but now he is reconsidering his stance since there was an oil spill near a place where he owns some property.

So someone committing murder doesn't justify a death sentence, but look out if you dare to bring down his property value.

why should Brad Pitt have some pull? he's only an actor for fucks sake. and secondly, this whole fiasco worked out rather well for the u.s. oil companies didnt it? A good hatchet job on a foreign company to get them out of the way.

okay you're a brit so the bp outrage has got you a little sore eh? the entire episode has nothing to do with where the company is from...its what they did, or allowed to happen thru criminal negligence.

as far as brad pitt goes-
http://www.makeitrightnola.org/

not only could the guy easily become mayor of new orleans, he could probably be governor of the state with a little effort. that is some pull.

exactly. it amazes me when they try to use the "it's your fault too because you use gas like everyone else." this is not the point, criminal negligence is a crime in any business. the idea of making these companies more responsible should be of everyone's concern.

If you kill BP as a company based on criminal negligence, then pretty much 90% of all big corporations would be out of business. This kind of psychopathy from corporations is exactly the kind of behavior being performed day in day out to maximize profits for shareholders, end of story.

If you have any doubt at all, do some research into corporate crime and you'll find tens of thousands of examples ranging from small scale pollution to genocide to killing heirloom crops worldwide by creating indestructible GMO's. If you can think it, it's probably been done by some corporation somewhere.

Think of corporations as people, with less conscience, and unbridled greed. Pretty much sums it up.

It makes all the difference in the World.

BP is accountable to their share holders. Bottom line is all that concerns them. The demand for BP's products is driven by a global useage of oil, of course, however the greedy American public that demands to use more oil than anyone else and at a price substanially cheaper than anywhere else in the developed World does far more than their fair share to drive that demand.

At the end of the day it IS greed that's the culprit. Saying that a nameless, faceless corporation is being greedy or that their executive officers are responsible because of greed while at the same time wholesale discounting anyone else's greedy self serving motives as sharing any of the blame is pure ignorance at best.

If people REALLY wanted to end oil related enviromental disasters, they'd start with themselves and their own habbits rather than making useless posts on GFY about it.

Yup

Im going to take it one step further. People like Al Gore would stop jet setting around the world, driving in limos backed by guards driving SUVs, buy homes you never set foot in ect.

Finally someone with some pull says exactly what i've been saying all along. BP should be killed as a corporation or Hayward (or one of those head douchebags) should get the chair. Enough is enough! BP is guilty of eco-terrorisim to the highest degree through criminal negligence.

on edit- don't know where that "your request is being processed" came from! haha
Amen, crimes of humanity. They have done worse over time but this should show without a doubt how fucked up they are.

I hope Sally Struthers weighs in on the subject. I heard she has a lot of pull too.

Valid point to a degree.

However, there are some mistakes that are not excusable.

If I drink and drive a couple of times I lose the right to drive my car. That's the rule. If I don't like it, I don't have to drive but that's not going to stop millions from driving and 100s of 1000s from driving drunk.

If I beat my kid or even spank him just a little too hard, I can lose my child to the state. But I'll still spank my child when I need to.

If I get caught picking up a street hooker in some cities, they literally confiscate my car and I lose it forever. That didn't stop me from going on the creep.

If you get 3 felonies, you go to prison FOR LIFE. Yet people keep committing felony crime.

Rules are rules. If you fuck up and cross the lines, you lose. That's not North Korea talking, that is the USA and they impose those same rules on normal citizens. You can bet your ASS if you or I dumped all that oil into the gulf, we would at the very least go to prison.

Harsh rules will not grind business to a halt. They will just be more careful, and if they screw up, they lose the right to work that job. I'm all for it.

that being said everything happened under bp's watch and it was a bp well and thus a bp disaster. you could break down the parts and literally find hundreds of companies involved but one company, bp, oversaw it all.

hardly. you have an extreme disconnect to people who actually are doing things in the name of social justice. pitt has done a hell of alot for people in louisiana, spending millions in his own money for the cause.
people there see him "putting his money where is mouth is" and he is highly regarded for doing so.
