I've also always wondered why, with so many sponsors with the $100 minimum payout, you end up getting to 85-95 dollars ... THEN NADA for months on end.

You wouldn't think it's possible that because you aren't a WHALE in sending hits their plan is to keep the 85-95 dollars and then some how, with a fancy script, re-direct your traffic to a 'we're selling hits - just name your fetish' - only 1.00 per 1000.

Been my suspicion for a few years.

The car business in the usa there were originally has 200 companies building cars in America.Now there are three. Also it seems alot of the sponsors that went bye were in the card banging biz not the porn biz.

My shitty content was often making up to 10 times what programs were paying for exclusive content. Without a single sale on the Internet. And there's your problem. Sponsors spent so much to get a sale, they squeezed the price they paid for content. Name the Custom Shooters making $3,000 from a single set without a video and still own that set if you disagree. Not bad for someone shooting shitty content.

Even Twistys don't pay t$3,000 a set. And that's why good shooters never turned to the Internet until they had nothing else.

My argument isn't that traffic isn't important, it is and only fools accuse me of saying other wise. My argument is that we spent too much getting it and left the customers needs behind. The level of innovation, imagination, uniqueness and porn quality in content creation is poor. So why would anyone want 30 days recurring of that stuff. Unless he had to.

And you can't base an industry on that.

.XXX passing and having to pay $60 per domain for the pleasure of being "responsible."

Send in you email to ICANN now showing your support for FSC's position. Don't be afraid if you name is already on the .xxx registry list. Everybody's is. Protecting your domains is ok.

Dear ICANN,

I am a member of the .XXX sTLD sponsored community. I do not support ICM's application for the .XXX sTLD.

I request that ICANN does the following:
1. Verify that companies which ICM has listed in support are viable adult businesses,
2. Verify that companies listed in support in fact do support ICM?s current application for a .XXX sTLD,
3. Determine how many pre-registrations claimed by ICM are in fact defensive registrations,
4. Determine how many pre-registrations are registrars or companies hoping to re-sell domain names.

Additionally, I also request the following information also be released as requested in the DIDP from the FSC:
1. The list of the IFFOR Board members;
2. The list of proposed members of the Policy Council;
3. IFFOR?s Business Plan/Financials;
4. Business Plan/Financials Years 1-5 utilizing 125,000 Initial Registrations;
5. The list of .XXX sTLD pre-registrants who have been identified to ICANN;
6. ICM?s Proof of Sponsorship Community Support as submitted to ICANN.

well here is a reality check..
the general economy and business has improved over last year and is improving as we speak.
however adult is a different animal altogether, Shap mentions a turning point, which i think is very optimistic, i doubt there is a turning point... it is a slide.
look at it this way, those who got into adult in 2001 had huge opportunities, made loads of bank, those who got in in 2006 still had very good money making opportunities, and even in 2010 it is easier to make money in adult compared to any other (legal) industry.
If the adult community cant get together and control the content/piracy/free content then in a few years the industry will consist of perhaps 3 or 4 very large entities and i dont believe they will give a shit about affiliates...

Twistys is doing fine. We have built up a very loyal following and have carved out a little niche that we seem to own. I think our dedication to our members is the main reason for it.

GayTube is doing record revenue month after month.

Business is good for us. It's losing money that is mine that pisses me off real bad.

Anyone who made millions starting in 2001 would be lucky and talented to survive a year today. Up until a couple of years ago traffic was still easy to get and in many cases was increasing. What was sliding was sales. In the last 2 years even traffic has fallen.

Falling traffic x falling sales = 2010

Not almost. They are. Big difference.
Governments are going after offshore, tax evasion, anonymous debitcards/creditcards.
So they MAKE Visa and banks do shit like this most likely.

Netherlands in on USA's whitelist. Curacao in Dutch Antilles is now independant.... Fortis (a former Belgian bank) will merge this weekend with ABNAMRO bank. ABNAMRO is owned by the Dutch government. Holland have a tax treaty with USA and EU governments agreed to give all bank info to US that they request. ACTA is being build by 20+ goverments to come up with new laws for the internet and how to regulate it better and tax it.

Now everyone will give their bank details and passports and money will arrive thru banks because people are scared and react in fear. Goverments ask banks to report any wires coming in from epass. Bingo.

Hope I am wrong.

I guess I could say as far as the payout method is concerned, I live in the US. So I get checks and deposit them. I would never rely on an outside system like epass to get my money. Just by reading this board for the last few years I see a lot of the bad comes from these financial companies.

As far as sponsors are concerned. You do have to test the waters with sponsors to see how your traffic is working, but I think people should try to stick with a smaller base of companies that have been around for a while and pay all the time (not including CCBill sponsors). It costs more money now to start a new business and run it then it ever has in the past. Companies who have been around for longer already have there investments covered. But I guess at the rate things are going now, you never know who is going to close shop. I know as long as I keep building more sites and putting more content out there. My traffic will still grow and no matter what. Traffic is still king. You may night be getting as many paysite affiliate sales. But you do have the traffic and have to find other way to monetize it.

- Webmaster Checks gets accounts frozen. Sponsors still have not received a penny of their own money back from Webmaster Checks.
- Epassorte

Before this Epass situation I had already been screwed for more in 2010 than all of my 14 years in adult COMBINED! This shit is crazy and I know it's only the tip of the iceberg. We are nowhere near the turning point imo.

I'm taking this epassporte situation as a HUGE Wake Up Call. We run a tight ship here but I'm going to tighten things up even more. Going to really be careful with who I do business with and that includes sponsors, affiliates, billers, whatever.

Have recent events changed how you are going to run your business moving forward?
What's next is 2011... It will get even worse. Next year most people will be thinking 2010 wasn't that bad. Just like people now are looking back to 2009 and 2008 and reminiscing...

"recent events" has prevented people from going forward. I see a huge purge of people from this industry over the nxt couple years, which will be good for those of us who stick it out.

Shap, you are pretty well insulated with your good tube names/sites. You have in house traffic and can sell ads, promote your own sites, be a cams and dating affiliate etc... with little to no cost to you. 9 out of 10 other companies don't have that, if you see how your income sales are going, most other companies are 10x worst off.

Rename the porn business to " the last man standing ".

This is why I do not believe the answer is in traffic.

Getting traffic has nearly always meant putting up more free content. Now we are competing with 10 or so major Tubes giving away full scenes. To compete at that level are we to give away even more free full length scenes?

If your only answer is yes, you're running into a brick wall. Because one of the reasons sales are falling is TOO MUCH free content on the Internet. Adding to it will mean the surfer has even more options to NOT BUY.

We need to convert more of the traffic we have, not give the surfer less reasons to buy.

I know. We've been talking to a lot of companies that are close to us and they've been telling me how they are doing and it's scary. I see how segments of our business are doing and it isn't pretty.

I don't mind the shrinking of the affiliate industry, really. I don't get as much writing work, but the people I get it from are the people who really stick with it and are doing well. It's nice because the people I'm writing for know what they are doing and what they want, which makes my life much easier

I think it's time to take a step back and look to old school. Although 90% of my banks haven't had issues, it's clear the 'offshore' banks are double dealing and Visa is pounding them hard for it. Quite frankly they (the bank's) should and DO know better, they're just straight up greedy.

anyhooo, having said that, there are still some very solid solutions available (and will continue to be available) outside the current & forcasted storms.

just my years of dealing with international banks speaking : )

homegrown video, sex is food people have to eat

Lao Tzu just tends to have the best stuff for these occassions... "As the soft yield of water cleaves obstinate stone, So to yield with life solves the insolvable: To yield, I have learned, is to come back again"

As of today, that is going to become a Homegrown Video company mantra, along with "sex is food, people have to eat" which I came up with on my own.

To follow that food analogy, look at grocers, which used to be largely mom and pop establishments but that has long ago given way to large controlling brand conscious supermarkets... and small niche specialty shops. If any of you think making a living on the margins left in adult is difficult you should look at how slim the margins are in the grocery business.

I think this year will clearly show who is surviving paycheck to paycheck and who has retained earnings that can absorb some large hits like we've been seeing. Good luck to all our survival!

Well, because of everything YOU believe you are doing 2 signups a day. Maybe it's time to start listening to other people.

TBH, we just got back to our peak which was the end of 08 and things are picking up even past that. This month should be our best ever and it's a 30 day month. The graph looks good. I'm excited and am eager for 2011

I would love to see what the results of these kind of threads would be for other industries.
And I Wouldn't mind putting money on the fact that almost every business in the world is shitting itself right now.

The world has never seen such a big rise in the economy and such a big fall in this small space of time.

I would say we are going through a period of calm and things will gradually continue upwards afterwards. Stay put and be reserved.
