Senate: No more loud fucking commercials

The Senate unanimously passed a bill late Wednesday to require television stations and cable companies to keep commercials at the same volume as the programs they interrupt.

The loud commercials were making it just too hard for them to listen in on you via your cell phone and the mic connected to your computer. They had to do something about that. They did.

This seems like something new. I don't recall commercials ever being that loud until the last year or so.

His point is valid. They are sitting on a lot of important issues right now because they don't want to face voter backlash during elections. Pretty shitty, they should have done the important stuff early on in the year if they were that concerned.

I'm sure everything will iron out, but politics is politics. Fuck them all.

Commercials? Those things I skip with TIVO?

Let me guess, the bill was passed with 2 billion in pork spending on protecting the indigenous Cracker moth of a South Dakota swamp?

Most likely... along with a hidden paragraph that gives them all a 50% raise next year if they ever agree on a bill with 100% approval. The only way those knuckle heads could agree on something unanimously is if they were all putting a little something into their back pockets.

OK, this makes more sense, it will probably never happen...

"The Senate unanimously passed a bill late Wednesday to require television stations and cable companies to keep commercials at the same volume as the programs they interrupt.
The House has passed similar legislation. Before it can become law, minor differences between the two versions have to be worked out when Congress returns to Washington after the Nov. 2 election."

Which means by next year commercials will actually be louder than they are now.

....plus Tivo will be illegal and fast forwarding past a commercial will be a Class X Felony punishable by a fine not to exceed $5 million dollars and/or 30 years imprisonment. Further all entertainment device manufacturers will be required to prevent the user from being able to adjust the volume or muting during any commercial.

I wish they'd pass a law banning political commercials, BP apology commercials, pharmaceutical commercials (or anything that says "ask your doctor"). I flip channels for all 3 of those these days.

MUTE is very handy as well. An hour of TV time can include 20 minutes of quiet time without missing a single moment of the show.

Now lets get the senate to agree that it's a good idea to subpeona the companies responsible for the gulf oil spill.. seems some dont want anyone asking questions. Oh well, at least we have the commercial thing to agree on.

Let's be real. This isn't a very controversial issue, so naturally it's easier to get it passed and done. There are a great number of issues that are more important but those are always controversial and takes forever due to gridlock and opposition.

That's why something like this can get done, and the important things can't get done.

Main problem is than none of an advert is quiet. Any sounds within one that woudn't be as loud as the rest are boosted up whereas in normal speech or whatever the actual interrupted program contained sound levels fluctuate all the time.

The loud ads are fucking annoying for sure. Here in Hungary there was some scandal about this because the volume of the ads was normal, but the channels made the non-advertisents less loud, thus you had to turn up the volume... and than came the ads... So its legal here and ppl can do shit against it.

When I was in Romania a few years ago I saw a crazy form of advertisement: in the middle of the films they showed an ad for like 10-15 seconds and than continue the movie. no intro/outro about its an ad, nothing. very efficient but very annoying.

Im surprised the cable companies and satellite providers have not fought this... THEY are the problem. If you notice, most of the time the loud commercials are when the cable company/satellite company runs a local avail, that commercial is louder than the national spots. For example: Joe's Used Cars spots are louder than the Bud Spots.

Im watching the History Channel right now and the Local spots are louder than the national spots.

Next the senate will pass important legislation to give them free commercial time when they run for office, when did they become the overlords of the TV? Oh Yeah, FCC, the guys that want to run the internet, that's who

Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
think about that

I don't know much about this, but I doubt it took up many resources or much floor time.

I personally dont have issues with this.

My GF's mom though does and it gets on my nerves when im at her house as she turns the sound completely off when any commercial is on.

To me no sound is far more annoying than loud sound.
