Precisely. Google is the big daddy of middle men, sitting in between surfers and the sites they want to find just as Facebook sits between people and the people, events, etc they want to find.

Facebook is a middleman - and no matter how big they get, middlemen are always expendable.
Unlike piece of shit myspace and every other social network site developed between 2000-2007, Facebook is a masterpiece. The first time I accessed the site I was thorougly impressed by how well it was programmed, how intuitive it was, and that my initial thoughts about how quirky and buggy myspace is/was was correct. It wasn't surprising that Facebook quickly took over as #1 social network. I don't expect that to change any time soon. Mark Zuckerberg is quite a smart cookie, and now he's backed by billions of dollars. Old folk, like you and Paul, simply do not understand.

social networks are annoying and for attention whores. Your life is not important to anyone but yourself!

With the new email from Facebook and the new deal of the day thing, looks like facebook is going to be the new big player.

If I was google I would not be happy.

So many people just have facebook (apt) on there phone.

I often hear people say 'are you on 'facebook' to link up.

You would think mysopace would have quickly re-vamped itself.

What Facebook seems to be is 'the net' on its own.

Its developing all the things most people want in one place. Once it has shops and probably ebay and so on working within its system then people will not bother with the web.

Its working well as its not relying on just being a website but also an apt.

Being an apt its on phones and soon I suspect your tv.

Facebook could be the thing that kills porn if not sites full stop.

I wonder if domain names are now a thing of the past.

Facebook has done (or seems to have) what others have failed to do. Thats develop a one stop place. Everything you want in one place.

Less and less people will bother with dating sites. Log into facebook for free and chat up somone you fancy. No fake profiles (well probably not as many on dating sites) and you can often see the real person on facebook (likes, pets, friends).

i totally agree. at the end of a show last night the singer told everyone to go to their webpage or facebook page. i bet the fb page had more information and activity than the webpage. the webpage seems archaic. a standalone webpage will look like geocities soon. kind of already does.

Yes

I think people now forget, most newphones will or can have some sort of facebook apt.

For a lot of people thats now how they conect to the net.

I know people who are using there pc far less (in some cases now not at all).

They sit all day posting rubish to there friends.

And becase its on a camera in means they can take pics and vid and upload live.

I heard in the last week or so, somone say that facebook is for the young and twitter for the mature.

I think many of us still live in the past if they think 'domain sites' still matter.

The net is facebook. Turn your phone on, and its there as an apt.

Phones are replacing computers more and more. For most people a phone is everything they need. Its portable, small, includes a camera, and you can serfe the web. What is more, they are cheap. very very very cheap.

In fact I chatted to a few who I went to school with to email me. They sent me a message on facebook saying they do not have email. Facebook is there 'email'.

This may be a shock for some people. BUT.....

In a few years people may no longer serfe the web.

They will simply load apts. An apt for facebook, youtube, twitter. Thats it.

In otherwords all those who have sat on domain names that a few years ago may have sold for millions, may find they are worth soon less than a can of beans.

Do not foprget the net re-invents itself.

Before we had websites we basickly had usernets (or whatever they were called).

Then websites took over.

But websites are limited.

I predict apts will be the new players.

Websites may migrate to facebook. A lot of sites are simple. They can easily be copied to facebook. And then simply forward the domain name to that facebook page to build up a fanbase.

in the next few years we will see apts on far more electronic devises.

TV's are already being more 'apt' like. Many now let you watch youtube on your tv.

I think the big thing will be, get your websites as apts.

Of course we are stuffed as iphone does not do adult.

Though a lot of people use other types of phones.

couple points then back to work. people like you, me, gfy that sit in front of a big tower cranking out websites can't conceptualize how people use the net now with phones, fb and such. but in the end it does not matter what WE think things are or should be, it just matters what THEY are doing. you are not selling to yourself, and your tastes, behaviors and preconceptions maybe out of line with the rest of humanity, which is most likely true when you spend the majority of your day in a room pressing buttons to generate money.

thats true.

often people in this 'biz' only chat to others in this 'biz'.

its only when you see real people in real life you can see the difference.

I am often taken back how people are.

I was in the local pizza place and the manager was sat on his mobile using facebook. in came a sexy girl and he started asking her if she was on facebook.

and thats how people use it.

i bet 'websites' for some are old hat.
