Unique Ip's / Hosts?

I'm not sure if unique IP's are sufficient enough for the search engines if you want to start a blog network or must it be all on unique hosts AND Ip's?

Ideally I would like to host with one reliable hosting provider and get seperate unique IP's with that host only and not have to sign up with dozens of hosting companies. Will this hurt me in SEO or do I have to get new hosts as well?

Are you going to be sharing the same content across all the sites? If each site has it's own content and isn't competing for the same keywords, then IP's don't really matter.

No, I'm not going to be sharing the same content, each site will be unique.

Can you explain then why people get different IP's for their blog network or network of sites/tgp's and some even get different hosting for each one? I'm so confused.

Thank you..

Apparently it has less and less weight every day because of all the virtual hosting. I am setting up my blog network with a hub, that basically is just links to my different blogs. The hub only has links back to it from my blogs, all my stuff is on the same ip at hostgator and that hub has PR1 and only been around a few weeks. By the way, Hostgator(in my sig) is cheap, unlimited domains, reliable and even though I needed to update my payment credit card on file with paypal, kept my site up and running even though I was away for several days without realizing it. They are giving 20% right now with the coupon code in my signature.

I'm only seeking knowledge, not hosting, so you can stop spamming.

This is my question:

The reason they do this is because poeple interlink their websites. So they make 20 websites with the similar content and link them all together. If you do that on the same IP Google isn't happy. So thats why they register unique IP's. In you case this isn't necessary, because your sites will have unique content..

What qualifies as similiar content? Same niche or same text content?

Say I want to create 50 blogs and they're ALL about boobs but the content is not duplicate content and each blog has unique posts. Would that be ok?

Define unique. Most professional hosting companies let you buy as many IPs as you want.

Here is the reason:

here are a couple of facts provided by Google ( http://www.google.com/apis/reference.html#2_3 ):

* Near-Duplicate Content Filter = If multiple search results contain identical titles and snippets, then only one of the documents is returned.
* Host Crowding = If multiple results come from the same Web host, then only the first two are returned

Now, you will find some people that will say, "well, that only applies if the filter is on." They are correct, however, the filter on is the default setting, and I challenge you to figure out how to turn it off. I tried, and gave up after 15 or 20 minutes. I highly doubt any surfer is going to go thru the effort, primarily because, why bother? They don't care.

So, the question is how do I get around this host crowding filter?

You have two options. You can put each domain on a different host, meaning you will have multiple control panels, multiple bills and billing cycles, multiple personalities to deal with . . . kind of a PITA. Or you can use someone like AaronM suggested.
