As America?s poorest wait for Social Security checks that may never come on Aug. 3, President Barack Obama will be out celebrating a milestone birthday at a party where tickets cost up to $35,800 each.

Obama has chosen the first day of the potential default to throw his 50th birthday bash, combining it with raising money for next year?s Barack Obama, Birthday, Debt Ceilingelection. His actual birthday is Aug. 4.

Republicans are slamming the decision to have the party as ?insensitive.?

?This really shows how unserious he is,? Republican Rep. Joe Walsh, a fellow Chicagoan, tells Newsmax exclusively. ?I realize it?s his birthday, but he is a president who has said he doesn?t know if social security checks will go out that day.

?If that?s the case, I cannot believe he will be having a big party that very day.?

Obama said on Tuesday that he cannot guarantee that social security checks will go out from August 3 unless a deal can be reached on raising the nation?s $14.3 trillion debt limit. ?There may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it,? he told CBS? Scott Pelley.

Unless the deal is reached, government services across the board will be cut and in many cases closed down.

?My first thought was that he will have to fly to Chicago before the third because I can?t imagine airports will be open,? said Walsh. ?And he?ll have to have a huge supply of candles because the lights are going to go out.

?I am amazed he will be able to have a party at all.?

Walsh said he hopes to be in Chicago on Aug. 3 himself to be with his family in case the calamity that Obama has warned about comes to fruition. ?I just doubt I?ll get an invitation to the party,? he said.

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson is expected to perform at the birthday bash at the historic Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. The event will be one of the president?s biggest fundraisers of the year. Publicity literature featuring a red, white and blue Happy Birthday logo has already been produced.

The event will be ?multi-tiered,? the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The Hudson concert would cost $50; admission to the party $200; a premium seat $1,000; a souvenir photo with the president $10,000; and VIP seating and dinner with Obama $38,500.

Another GOP Congressman, Louie Gohmert of Texas was incredulous about the timing. ?That?d be as crazy as setting up golf games in the middle of going after Osama bin Laden,? he said. ?I?m sure he wouldn?t do something like that ? or maybe he would.?

Obama has been leading contentious talks all week with leaders of both parties in the House and Senate to avoid the August 2 deadline. On Friday he warned of financial ?Armageddon? if a deal cannot be reached."

By the way.. The US cannot default on any of it's debt.. The court has already ruled on that constitutional issue.. Which means, that spending on debt could continue regardless of the debt ceiling debacle.

This whole possibility should actually be a kick in the ass for most people, making them realize that depending on SS for retirement is a terrible idea, but I doubt many will see that.

The bottom line is pretty simple. If we don't raise the debt ceiling it is likely that somebody somewhere isn't going to get paid. That could be means seniors not getting social security. It could mean doctors not getting medicare payments. It could be military not getting their paychecks. It could be bondholders not being paid.

Obama is simply pointing out the situation that best suits him. This way he can stand in front of the people and say, "The republicans would rather seniors go hungry then millionaires pay a few more dollars in taxes on their private jets."

The republicans have painted themselves into a corner here and I think now they are just hoping that Obama. Blinks. He may. He has before. But if not they are going to come out looking pretty badly.

In theory you are correct. But there is a large group of people in the baby boomer generation who were never offered any kind of 401K or retirement through their job. Sure, they could have gone out and gotten their own IRA, but the reality is that Capitalism is a pyramid. The further down it you go the less those jobs pay and those people don't really have the means to set aside their own IRA.

The average wage in America is $16 per hour. At that wage you make around $30K per year pre tax. After all the taxes you will likely see around $23K per year. The average home price in the US is $180K.

So if the average wage earner buys the average home that will take up half of their take home pay. Add in a car (nothing fancy, just a car) food, utilities etc and the average wage earner is lucky to make ends meet.

Say that average person took 3% of their income and set it aside every year for their own retirement. Assuming they did this at age 20 and did it for 40 years at 2% interest (that is more than most savings/money market accounts offer) they would end up with about $45K in the bank. . . not much of a retirement. Say they were able to set aside 10% and invested it to get a 6% return annually and they never lost (meaning recessions like the one we have now never happen) that would give them about $440K. That is a whole hell of a lot better, but it would require that a lot of things went right for that person and that they were able to set aside 10% of their income.

I'm not making excuses for people, I'm just pointing out that there are a lot of people for whom this is reality and fixing that reality is a little more challenging than just saying so.

Wasn't aware that the president of the US controlled the budgets and money that is spent. Always thought it was the congress. In other words, unless Obama turns around and vetos a bill that congress passes, it's not him that's to blame for any of this.

The repub congress can pass a bill any time they want, with whatever they want in it.. Of course they might have a problem having the Senate pass it as well, but it could be done with some serious arm twisting.. At that point, it then becomes an issue of whether or not Obama would veto it and be the bad guy.

Didn't the repubs put a bill on the floor about this and then vote it down just so they could play politics with the issue? Did you make a post about that? About how they were playing games that could affect those on Social Security etc?

Tomorrow morning he could announce that we are ceasing action in libya and fully pulling out of Afghanistan and Iraq and it would still cost billions of dollars. Moving all those people ins't cheap. Yes, it would eventually be cheaper than keeping them there another 5 years, but he is doing what he said he would. The draw down in Iraq is all but done and he has a plan to get us out of Afghanistan.

None of these things change what is happening with the debt ceiling. Again, he could end all the wars tomorrow and we would still need to raise the debt ceiling.

If nobody blinks and we default Obama is trying to put himself in a position where he can step aside and let the whole shit storm land in the republicans laps.

Raising the "debt ceiling"? Everytime I hear that on television I just shake my head.

Let me put this in real life terms...I go out and spend tons of money and buy everything on credit. Now...it's time to pay the credit card. But instead of STOPPING SPENDING ON MORE SHIT AND PAYING MY BILLS, instead I KEEP SPENDING EVEN MORE! And then I BORROW MORE TO PAY THE INTEREST ON MY DEBT.
