Documentary fans - some recommendations?
Looking for some ideas for interesting Documentaries to watch. Most recent ones I've seen are Inside Job (everyone should watch it) Food Inc. (Informative and eye-opening) And Exit through the gift shop which is pretty cool.
Anyone with a suggestion for anything documentary or perhaps even true story films, please post them up :thumbsup |

"This video tells the story of how Dr. Burzynski, and the patients his therapy has cured of what are normally terminal cancers, have fought the FDA and the big drug companies who have continually and systematically tried to discredit and punish a man who's only purpose in life has been to develop and perfect a life-giving and non-toxic cure for the disease of the 20th century. "

I liked the Story of Anvil. I remember them from when I was a kid though, might not be so great for non-Canadians who have never heard of them.

This is one of the most important videos you'll ever see; an interview with Aaron Russo, former friend of Nick Rockefeller. He was dying from Cancer and decided to spill the beans on the Rockefeller's plans for the world

Freedom to Fascism.

Along with the Aaron Russo video above, this is equally as important, it's an interview with Norman Dodd, former head researcher for the Reece Committee. He spent his life researching the Tax Exempt Foundations, he eventually discovered the disturbing truth behind them; they are there to create war, this is because war is the easiest time to make changes to the way we live, to eventually shape the world into one that leaves the Banker's in total control. World Wars I and II were both planned and funded from New York, but it was just to make changes in the world, not for the reasons that 99% of the people imagine.

In the Name of the Father (based on a true story).
Conspiracy (a recreation of the Wannsee Conference) Beyond the Steppes (the writer/director based the story on the life of her grandmother.) (worth watching!) The People Vs. Larry Flynt Das Experiment (A psychological experiment in which test subjects are divided into "prisoners" and "guards". Story based on the 1971 stanford experiments.) Dirty Pictures (A museum curator on trial for displaying "obscene" photographs defends his free speech rights. Based on a true story.) and: Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (fiction, but banned in a lot of countries because of how critical it was of certain political practices) |
"Bigger Stronger Faster"

The Ambassador (2011) www.imdb.com/title/tt2048877/
About how corrupt diplomatic positions in Africa are. |
"World at War" multi part series on ww2. Interviews with people like hitlers secretary, albert spier, etc...
"Forks over knives" will blow your mind on how you look at food, meat and health in general. "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead" If you need a change in your life, this is such an inspiring health story. "Bigger stronger faster" was def. a cool look at roids and the truth. "Pumping Iron" Arnold swarzenneger 70's documentary, that launched his career and you'll understand why. Such a magnetic character. Also, the making of, is a must see. |
Inside Job (2010) - Won the academy award for best documentary.

I'm not buying it, because he had been very political and conspiracy-minded previous to 9/11. He made films about this kind of thing and it would've been something he'd have mentioned, not kept quiet about until 7 or 8 years later. Sorry, but as I've said before I'm highly skeptical and I require more proof than very loosely based information after the fact. |
Whores' Glory - extraordinary and beautifully presented documentary about prostitutes in Thailand, Bangladesh and Mexico. The whole thing is subtitled but really worth watching.

Oh, and for fans of Adam Curtis:
The Power of Nightmares is excellent, and coherent, but the above video was, I think, made in response to "All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace", which was just spurious, nonsensical bullshit. |

By the way, if you want to follow a very talented up and coming documentary director you should check out Sean Dunne. So far he has directed short documentaries The Archive and the beautifully shot American Juggalo http://americanjuggalo.com/, and now he is working on his first full length documentary Oxyana, about a town in West Virginia that is stricken with Oxycontin addiction http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...d-by-sean-dunn. The kid is talented as fuck and you're going to be hearing a lot from him in the future... :2 cents:
