Germanwings Pilot Was Locked Out of Cockpit Before Crash in France
 

PARIS ? As officials struggled Wednesday to explain why a jet with 150 people on board crashed in relatively clear skies, an investigator said evidence from a cockpit voice recorder indicated one pilot left the cockpit before the plane?s descent and was unable to get back in.

A senior military official involved in the investigation described ?very smooth, very cool? conversation between the pilots during the early part of the flight from Barcelona to Düsseldorf. Then the audio indicated that one of the pilots left the cockpit and could not re-enter.

?The guy outside is knocking lightly on the door and there is no answer,? the investigator said. ?And then he hits the door stronger and no answer. There is never an answer.?

He said, ?You can hear he is trying to smash the door down.?

While the audio seemed to give some insight into the circumstances leading up to the Germanwings crash, it also left many questions unanswered.

I guess they need a new rule...no one alone in the cockpit..if one pilot leaves a stewardess must be there just in case

They should send the NTSB and do another episode of plane crash investigation...

Correct. No one is allowed to stay alone in the cockpit. The whole thing doesn't smell good. I wonder if airlines companies do an extensive personal records look up before their hire a pilot? After all, they got the biggest weapon in their hands.

I hate to say but I've been on some of these european domestic flights and I've noticed a couple of times the pilots drinking wine and looking halfway plastered.

My theory is that pilot 1 went back to get another bottle and pilot 2 passed out.

Well said - they probably visited the crash site and left without filling the tank...

read about it this morning - the A320 cockpit door has a code lock for emergencies so that it can be opened from outside (the code changes all the time)

BUT: that can be disabled from inside for 5-20 minutes

so IF the second pilot decides to lock himself in and crash the plane, he can do it and no one can do anything against it.

and yes, we can thank the terrorists for that

I would suggest the following. One pilot could went out to wc and another pilot who stayed in
the cabin, could got heart attack and all... If the door to the cabin is available to open only from inside (ps: i'm not sure but as i know after 9/11 this is necessary security measure), then everything is explained...The pilot who went out, can't open the door in order to return back and all ...it's a crash...

it is completely silent in the cockpit, no word was spoken the last 10 minutes, you hear the other pilot trying to break in, the last seconds you hear screams - people knew they were going to crash

it is extremely important - if it was a technical fault you want to avoid that it happens again

they just released that they are now focusing on a voluntarily act..... :(

With all the bullshit of plane accidents and other assorted bullshit these days the solution is to travel by boat and bring your own inflatable lifeboat.

You know, the second pilot who has crashed the plane was a terrorist. So yes, you we ca thank the terrorists for that.

someone on the plane got "chaotic", stewardess cannot help, pilot wanted to calm situation down, got taken as hostage, imho even small bomb like lighter may make hole into the windows then the pressure got down, pilot got treats if copilot will not let them in to kidnap the plane bomb will be activated, copilot instead of giving plane to hands of terrorists so they can target any bigger city, decided to get down and meanwhile emptied the wings from fuel to lower the damage on the ground ... if not like that, at least good plot for movie :winkwink: r.i.p. at the first place anyway ...

Co-pilot went to the bathroom, came back found the door wouldn't open when punching in his pin, it was bolted from inside. 90% chance suicide.

yes that is what i am talking about ... it may be intentional, by decission of copilot, because of some treats? :2 cents: isnt easier for copilot just to go to toilet, then when back of pilot just kick him into the back of head, instant ko, and then do whatever you want? instead of waiting when pilot will have the need to go piss? :2 cents:

for now no one can say why the co pilot did it - the rest seems to be clear now

but if it was something political/religious, it makes no sense without someone taking responsibility

otherwise it's the same as someone steering his car into a bridge
