I don't think I've had any down time since I upgraded to a dedicated server. When I was on VPS I had quite a few down times.

Thousands of servers, something somewhere at somepoint is going to break.
Im not sure what your account name is, but I can pretty much bet you are on a virtual server with a bunch of other users that probably had some issues and was taken care of.

Really dont see a need for a poll like this with questions insinuating that there are major problems when there are in fact no major problems, but an isolated incident with a virtual server holding many accounts, which does happen from time to time.

How about a poll that asks, Should I upgrade to a vps or dedicated server so I am not at the mercy of a virtual account?

Not sure why people think its ok for a shared plan to lack service compared to a VPS. You do realize its the same idea but for bigger customers...

Getting bad service on a shared plan is not ok If the host thinks that is ok. I would not host with them. I also do not believe amerinoc thinks this way as I have had accounts there in the past and the service they provide is very good quality! And I am saying this as one of there competitors.

I rarely had issues, and when I had them, they were solved really fast. It took me more time to read the posts in this page than what it would take me to get support from them

AMEN! You need to differentiate between shared environment on a virtual, as opposed to being on VPS, Dedicated, or Cloud instance which are MUCH more reliable, and not vulnerable to an abusive virtual draining the resources on a shared box. Shared hosting is priced accordingly because you are "SHARING RESOURCES", thus there is some assumed risk involved.

I feel ya moose!

I think you interpreted part of that incorrectly. We don't differentiate between the size of an account when it comes to our managed plans.

As to the OP....

The account that had issues is on a shared server that had a user under attack, it was dealt with. Unfortunately, the risk of that happening is greater on a shared hosting plan by the very nature of the fact you are sharing the server with other users. We battle problems on shared hosting environment servers 24/7 simply based on the sheer number of shared servers we have deployed, 99% of the time you don't even know we are doing it and our guys get no love for it, in many ways, it's a thankless job, it is what it is, but rest assured, we are here and will continue to fight the fight and answer your support tickets when they come in.

Good luck with the poll.

little to no probs for me, and the probs I have had, were just back-end stuff that needed to be tweaked. never caused me any downtime, just a slight headache here and there.

very happy here!

You're lucky they (and others) offer shared hosting service. It's thankless, as Moose and Mike said, for sure. It's okay that you'll never "get it" about the nuisance of you starting a negative poll in a public forum. Nobody expects that you ever would. Cheers

Ask how many accounts they have on each server, some don't limit them and cause these type of issues. We keep ours around 300 and almost never have any slow downs for any accounts.

I didn't say THAT, well, not exactly. They both do a ton of virtual hosting, we also do some with the acquisition of HostHead. I'm simply echoing their sentiments that the ongoing work to service these is much more involved than most know by virtue of tight economics. Great technicians are costly, as is employing enough for true 24-7, redundant coverage. The market is huge for this, a good friend of mine has 17,000 virtual accounts that bill 2 million a year- I'm not digging on providing the service, I respect the requirements of fulfilling that business model.

Lastly, that within that tier of sales and clientele is largely "new" or smaller businesses, therefore its not expected by hosts that these clients fully understand the fundamental economic or infrastructure differences or benefits of this versus VPS, cloud or dedicated. These become logical options for service at first business breakout to afford greater uptime, performance and reliability.

Happy Holidays,

Brad

We've been happy customers of theirs for many years. We keep a a couple accounts with them even though we have our own rack of servers locally.

Getting bad service on a shared plan is not ok If the host thinks that is ok. I would not host with them. I also do not believe amerinoc thinks this way as I have had accounts there in the past and the service they provide is very good quality! And I am saying this as one of there competitors.

Good point, that's EXACTLY why we created VSYS™:

VSYS™ Virtual Hosting Plans

What sets WEBAIR.COM VSYS™ VIRTUAL WEB HOSTING PLATFORM apart from the rest?

A traditional host will share resources between all of the users making it increasingly difficult to secure properly. This is especially true because of the fast paced evolution of web hosting software and technologies we work with today. Our technology takes a different approach by assigning each customer their own apache instance. All apache applications and modules natively run as this distinct user, eliminating the need for complicated security and per-user or per-site configuration mechanisms. Shared or virtual hosting offers a secure, reliable and affordable way to get your website up and running instantly! All the tools you need to build/design your site are provided! You can set up an online store, blog, forum, or whatever your project may be. And it's all backed by a 30 day money back guarantee!

Amerinoc is pretty much unbeatable in the support department.

The only issue I have with them is that some of my servers are getting pretty old and I am going to have to get in touch with them to get some sort of migration/consolidation going on.
