Since I wroite this (on ave) how many cats were euthanized who would love to have Buddy's place.

I can get rid of cats in 2 secs and have MANY TIMES. It is called white vinegar in a spray bottle.

I had a neighbor where Lucky was urinating in his kid's sandbox. We tried to keep Lucky out I even built an outdoor litter box but no go.

He built a small fence around it and prob solved. Lucky went on to the woods.

We could have went back and forth forever but he is a real man. I would have paid half cost but he didnt want it.

That made us good friends instead of enemies.

Work together is my point. Dont just tell the guy to NEVER let his cat out. That is for insensitive meatheads.

ALL of them were as sweet as can be. Many, almost all, had cats themselves. One old guy walked the park and he was late 60s.

There are prob 250 cats out here.. 125 inside only and 75 runners and maybe 50 strays.

I realize a LOT of folks do keep em inside.

But with BUDDY inside for the next 15 years, the other 124 cats wont be a prob but Buddy will?

So Buddy has been sleeping in front of the monitor right here for about 8 hours now since 9:30 pm. We went in the kitchen a couple times (he follows me) and he ate.

It did this a few years back. The guy was a single father living with his young son. He had a home page with all their scout, fishing trip, holiday, etc pics. He also thought he was some kind of computer expert, bought a bunch of parts and software from me, then couldn't turn a profit and demanded a refund months later. Even went crying to the police as if they were his own personal army.

A few months later I noticed that he had his domain expire. Foolish move.

Thanks to the wayback machine I managed to grab a bunch of pics of him alone (none with the kid) and put up a child love page, links to NAMBLA, etc. Then I sent him the link. He went ballistic with all kinds of threats. Then he went crying to the police again with all the "evidence" and ended getting himself investigated by child protective services.

Never heard from him again, I still own the domain and have it pointed at a gay tube. Fuck that guy.

I have had cats out here since 1987. One died and he died from another cat bite at age 12 and 1/2 not from people. None died from people in 25 years.

i keep my cat inside but he has been kept inside since he was just very little. we decided to do this because in the city, its just too dangerous for a cat out there. he doesn't even seem to want to go outside. however if your cat is used to the outdoors already, its not very fair to the cat i guess.

It's your responsibility to keep your animals off neighbors property.

Not everyone wants a cat hanging around snooping garbage, getting under their car where they fear they may kill it accidentally nor around their kids.

We have a huge cat roaming problem here. Our trash gets destroyed, cats under our car, ON the car, mewing at the doors at ungodly hours, fighting, pregnant cats everywhere etc.

So instead of shooting them all as I initially planned, I called the mayor's office to start the motion of passing a cat-at-large bylaw to require cat owners keep their cats collared, leashed and off other people's property. Once enacted, a simple call to the by-law enforcer and animal control will have all these cats picked up and owners fined.

I'm not reading your whole post or this whole thread. Just keep your cat indoors. You already lost him once and were lucky enough to get him back. You probably won't have the same luck twice.

Cats kept indoors tend to live for about 15 to 16 years vs cats who are let out (7 years). Cats that are let out are more prone to disease, toxins, tics, animal attacks, and sometimes, stupid human attacks.

You don't need to ask this question - you already know what to do.

Since you live in a place where it is allowed and it sounds like others do the same thing it is certainly a different type of a situation than where I live. Where I live it is a small rural town, but they are pretty strict about pet laws. Normally I wouldn't have a problem if someones dog or cat wondered through my yard occasionally, in my case the cat just seemed to love my house.

I guess what I am saying is that if you can you should try to keep an eye on him. While he may be doing nothing to really bother people there is also the chance that he is walking on someones car or shitting in their yard/flowers and they just aren't saying anything about it. Instead they are just stewing and getting madder and madder and one day he might just disappear.

Hopefully that never happens, but if it were me, I would try to keep an eye on him from time to time and see where he goes and I would even talk to the neighbors to make sure everything is cool. Better to be a little safe and proactive than sorry.
