Does having a scale in your bathroom help you lose weight?

Opinions both on and off the web seem to vary, but most seem to favor the answer being yes. Then again some of those websites are also trying to sell scales.

I think it helps to keep you in check. It's really easy to not notice a small gain, which often becomes a bigger gain. Having a scale will help you to identify the beginning of the weight gain, and will hopefully invite you to change things before it goes further.

I weighed more and looked better, I weighed less and looked worse.
I'd say a big fat mirror and a scale and (if you're that serious) day by day pics and a stats sheet will work the best if you're working out and are on a diet.

Not necessarily. For many it is nothing more than a 'decoration' in their homes. Learning your BMI in junction with a healthy diet & regular exercise, will go a lot further than weighing yourself daily.

Get a smart scale. Not only does it measure you weight but it also shows you your BMI and Fat. I have one that reports to my iPhone and Tracy and I use it all the time. Tracking the results give you easy goals to reach. Best of all, results of eating better and jogging or biking a little show results quickly. Even if the results are small the boost is enough to make you want to keep going.

A scale is essential and using it is essential for most people. It keeps you aware of how you are eating/exercising/progressing on a day to day basis. Not using it allows you to keep lying to yourself, rationalizing and make no progress.

A scale is super important to losing weight... unless ones change to diet/exercise is radical enough that they are losing 1/2 a pound a day consistently or something without really knowing or caring where their scale weight is.

Most people however, are 100% clueless not only about what it takes to lose weight, but also to the extent they rationalize and lie to themselves day in and day out - as they see no progress.

Didn't you have 2 sites years ago for tracking diet and weight loss? I distinctly remember the look/feel/design of the sites but can't remember the domains. Pretty sure they were yours.

Anything that calculates BMI and Fat is highly inacccurate. For example on the gym scale im 13% bf, when I got hydro-tested i was actually 9%...huge difference.

i wouldn't say it helps you lose weight but it helps you not gain without realizing how far off track you've gotten. i'm on a diet right now and just ate a double stuffed oreo cookie, how do like me now? *giggles* never go to happy hour when on a diet, it's mayhem when you get home
